Akron Buchtel Adopt A Team Program
Program Summary and Goals:
Different Like You and Akron Hope are delivering a special program to support the Akron Buchtel
High School Football team. This is a public, underprivileged school that has limited parent support,
players have limited male role models, and no booster club. The low involvement hinders the
performance of the players and results in low grades, self-esteem and poor performance in both
athletics and academics.

Significant team building and leadership training including goal setting and planning
Provide EACH athlete with a mentor who will reinforce goals on a weekly basis including
tracking and measuring progress to goals resulting in long term habits
Inspire athletes to be leaders and influencers throughout the entire school
We are asking you to help by being a mentor. The job includes:

Mandatory participation in a unique mentor bonding/team building program on August 3 from
5:00pm-8:30pm. During this program, you will:
o Work with your student to build a bionic prosthetic hand that will be donated to a
global child who has lost their hand
o Help your student set the following 3 goals (goal sheets will be provided). Each goal
must also have 3 planning steps for achievement of each goal:
! Academic
! Athletic
! Personal
Connect with your student a minimum of once per week throughout the football season either
in person, via FaceTime or phone to review progress to goals, revise plan steps, listen!
Guide your student to achievement by tutoring if you can or suggesting tutors, introducing
them to people who may be able to help, etc
Help them fail. They will fail and miss their goal. Show them they can overcome
Complete the weekly online survey that will be emailed to you. Please complete within 24
hours of receipt
Remind students to make their weekly video Vlog
Attend at least one game throughout the season
Attend a celebration at the end of the season (date TBD)
Different Like You will be available to assist with finding resources.
