Winter in Snohomish County: ‘Tis the Season to…
Winter in Snohomish County means rain boots weather and brisk nights, time spent
snuggled by the fireplace, walking around with a favored hot drink in hand, and
taking in the overall festiveness of the season. We’ll help you keep warm – check out
some of our awesome shopping options, grab a brew at one of our many breweries,
or hit the slopes for a day of fun in the mountains.
At the end of the day, lay your head on a fluffy pillow in one of our comfortable
hotels, inns or in the home-away-from-home setting of one of our cozy bed and
breakfasts. Whatever you choose to do, we hope you enjoy your stay in Snohomish

This is the season for shopping –for gifts, décor or food, and you’re likely
spending a lot of time in stores. Snohomish County boasts many locally owned,
distinctive shopping venues that are sure to satisfy all of your shopping needs.
From one-of-a-kind boutiques to national brands and outlets, Snohomish
County is your paradise found!
If you love antiques and unique boutiques, you’ll love historic downtown
Snohomish, the antique capital of the Northwest, with a variety of shops
featuring over 350 antique dealers. Peruse antique and secondhand stores,
specialty food shops, local liquid arts (distilleries and wineries), clothing, home
and children’s boutiques all while enjoying the city's late 19th- and early 20thcentury architecture and popular restaurants. Some local favorites include:
Bruning Pottery for handmade pottery, Joyworks for vintage-inspired home
décor and on-trend clothing, Star Center Antique Mall for all things vintage and
antique, and Everything Tea to shop one of the largest selection of teas on the
west coast.
For art and ambience, check out the laid back, walkable, waterfront downtown
Edmonds. This arts community, nestled along Puget Sound, is chock full of art
galleries, boutique shops, a historic theater and much more. Some local
favorites include: Rick Steves’ Europe Through the Back Door Travel Store for
all your European travel needs, Arista Wine Cellars to stock up on your favorite
bottles of wine and cute kitchen décor, Edmonds Bookshop for new and used
books, and Housewares for beautiful, high-end furniture and home décor.

For a more urban shopping experience and edgier vibe, wander through
downtown Everett and take in the many distinctive shopping options. Stroll
down Colby Avenue and browse upscale clothing, fine jewelry and home
boutiques, locally owned wine shops and more. Some local favorites include: J.
Matheson Gifts, Kitchen and Gourmet for kitchen goods and decor, Wicked
Cellars for all you wine lovers, and Schack Art Center for art – both decorative
and wearable!
If it’s one-stop-shopping you’re looking for, try one of Snohomish County’s
shopping centers.
Country Village in Bothell is an eclectic hodge-podge of buildings brought
together to recreate the feeling of a small town, and it’s chock full of antique
stores, unique boutiques, and children’s stores. The outdoor center has an
inviting atmosphere that will make you forget you’re at a shopping mall as you
watch the resident ducks and chickens stroll about, let the kiddos ride the train,
and wander the beautifully kept grounds.
Mill Creek Town Center in Mill Creek has you covered for both groceries and
gifts! Check out the newest trends in home décor at Pier 1 Imports, shop for
luxury gifts at Belle Provence, grab a snack at locally-loved bakeries Frost or
Just Bundt Cakes, visit the University of Washington Book Store, and grab all
the things you need for holiday meal prep at Central Market or Granola’s
Natural Market.
Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip also offers an outdoor shopping experience
– and designer goods for less! Outlet stores for some of the most premier
brands, this is the place for shoppers who love labels and scoring a great deal.
Check out Burberry or Coach outlets for high-end bags and accessories, Nike
or Puma for sportswear, and J. Crew and Banana Republic for quality threads.
For the outdoorsy folks and everything camouflage, visit Cabela’s in Tulalip, an
110,000-square-foot store designed to immerse customers in the outdoor
experience. Check out the conservation-themed wildlife displays, trophy animal
mounts, and tribal art throughout the store.
Looking for a more traditional shopping mall experience? Try the Everett Mall in
Everett, featuring some tried and true favorites – such as Macy’s, Sears, Old
Navy, Bath & Body Works, Victoria’s Secret, Burlington, Ulta Beauty and Party
City.

Further south don’t miss the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, home to big name
stores like Nordstrom, Macy’s, JC Penney, H&M and The LEGO® Store.
Wander through The Village, the mall’s outdoor shopping section, featuring
retailers White House Black Market, Willams Sonoma, Forever 21, American
Girl (the only one north of San Francisco!), REI and more.

Drink and Be Jolly
It’s that blustery time of year when you just want to stay inside and soak up the
warmth of your fireplace! But we have a better idea of how to warm your
insides – check out one of Snohomish County’s numerous wineries, breweries
or distilleries!
Love wineries? We’ve got you covered. Visit Port Gardner Bay Winery, a locally
owned winery in downtown Everett; Dubindil Winery in Snohomish, a boutique
winery specializing in small lot, high quality Bordeaux-style wines; or for a more
unique taste, try Aesir Meadery, a small meadery in Everett that produces wine
made from local honey and sustainably sourced ingredients.
Just want a cold brew? There are plenty of breweries all over Snohomish
County, a few of which are strategically placed to give you a respite from your

holiday shopping. Salish Sea Brewery in downtown Edmonds offers fine
handcrafted ales and lagers, along with a selection of board games to keep you
occupied. Scuttlebutt Brewing Company & Pub at the Port of Everett serves
excellent handcrafted ales and homemade root beer, fresh fish and chips,
chowder, and a full menu for lunch and dinner, all with a view of the beautiful
Everett waterfront. Diamond Knot Brewery, on the waterfront in Mukilteo, is an
independent microbrewery and alehouse, and features live bands most
Saturday nights, pub-food favorites and a fine selection of wines. Foggy Noggin
Brewing in Bothell are brewers of great English-styled ales, and are one of the
world’s smallest production breweries. Whiskey Ridge Brewing in Darrington
offers six taps accommodating a wide variety of tastes, served with a gorgeous
view of Whitehorse Mountain.
Are spirits more your thing? You’re in luck – Snohomish County is becoming a
hotbed for distilleries! Try Bluewater Organic Distilling, whose products are
made with 100% organic ingredients, distilled in small batches in a copper
kettle and bottled in American-made glass, all in a stellar location at the Port of
Everett. Plus, they’re a member of “1% for the Planet,” meaning each bottle of
vodka or gin you buy supports non-profits around the world! Skip Rock Distillers
in Snohomish is just a stone’s skip away from the Snohomish River, and uses
locally farmed ingredients from farmers they know and trust to create their
award-winning vodka, rye whiskey and fruit liqueur. Looking for a more
personalized experience? Dry County Distillery in Marysville is a very small,
locally owned, and family-run distillery offering gin, vodka, whiskey and awardwinning anise. Want something they don’t carry? If you have a favorite spirits
recipe, bring it on in and they’ll do their best to recreate it!

Snohomish County is full of opportunities for snow sports enthusiasts! For
snowshoeing and cross country skiing head to the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie
National Forest, which boasts 119 miles of designated cross-country ski trails in
its forest trails. Or visit the Stevens Pass Nordic Center, which also offers
designated trails for the snowshoe adventurer.
For snowmobilers, check out country roads just off Highway 2 near Sultan and
Index. Or, in the northern part of Snohomish County, you can take groomed
snowmobile trails near Darrington.
Downhill skiers and snowboarders will find that from Thanksgiving to Easter,
the steep slopes of the Cascade Mountains offer lots of variation for every skill
level. Located just 50 miles east of Everett, Stevens Pass is a fully equipped ski
area offering a variety of terrain for downhill skiers of all levels. The Stevens
Pass Nordic Center offers 15 miles (25km) of wide groomed trails for all crosscountry skiing abilities, combining traditional tracked trails and skating lanes.
The Nordic Center is located 5 miles east of the Stevens Pass Alpine Ski Area
on Highway 2 and is one of the sites for Regional Biathlon races.
You don’t have to be a snow bunny to take advantage of outdoor recreation in
winter. In fact, winter is one of the best times to go river rafting if you want to
see wildlife! Take a bald eagle float tour and get an up close and personal look
at our nation’s majestic mascot. The best time to go is December through
February. Local outfitters include Chinook Expeditions in Index, Outdoor
Adventure Center in Index, Alpine Adventures in Gold Bar, North Cascades

Snohomish Groundfrog Day
January 31, 2015 in historic downtown Snohomish
A farcical and fun attempt to take the doldrums days of winter and turn it into an
event about laughter and royal whimsy through a West Coast adaptation of
Groundhog day folklore.
Arlington Stillaguamish Eagle Festival
February 6-7, Arlington
With winter comes the return of the eagle to the Stillaguamish River. To
celebrate these special winter residents, Arlington hosts an annual Eagle
Festival.
