Quarto. Blue textured leather
over paper boards with gilt
decorations. A collection of
209 sepia toned photographs
measuring between 1½" x 2"
and 5" x 7" with captions and
drawings throughout mounted
on stiff gray paper. Bowed
board else very good with near
fine photographs.
A photo album from 1943 of a
Chinese American solider, Horace
Fong, and his new wife, Ann,
who were both stationed with
the Navy during World War II.
The photos show the newlyweds
in California after they moved to
San Francisco for the Navy. They
are seen with friends in and out of
uniform participating in activities
including swimming at the beach,
horseback riding, rowing, and
picnicking. There are numerous
“cheesecake” style photos of Ann
posing on her rolling skates, one
with her flirtatiously lifting her
dress up to show some leg. There
are also professional photos of the
couple and friends at “Charlie Low’s
Forbidden City” which boasts it’s
“America’s world renown all Chinese
supper club” and Slapsy Maxies.
There are also photos of other Asian
American servicemen and women
including a photo of a young
friend, Donald Fong, dressed in his
R.O.T.C. uniform.
An interesting album of the home
front activities of an enlisted
couple during World War II.
