CHILDREN SHOULD BRING A READY-TO-EAT LUNCH EACH DAY UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE ON THE CALENDAR. WE SERVE A MORNING SNACK AT 9:00AM AND AN AFTERNOON SNACK AT 3:00PM EVERY DAY. SNACK TIMES MAY VARY SLIGHTLY DEPENDING ON THE DAY’S ACTIVITIES. WE PLAY A LOT OF GAMES THAT REQUIRE RUNNING, JUMPING, AND CLIMBING, SO WE RECOMMEND THAT CHILDREN WEAR TENNIS SHOES AND SOCKS EVERY DAY EXCEPT SWIM AND WATER DAYS. ON WATER DAYS, CHILDREN SHOULD WEAR THEIR SWIM SUITS TO FUNTIME WITH SHORTS AND A SHIRT. THEY SHOULD ALSO BRING A SWIM BAG WITH DRY UNDERCLOTHES, EXTRA CLOTHES, AND A TOWEL. CHILDREN MAY BRING GOGGLES AND/OR POOL TOYS BUT HE/SHE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING UP WITH THEM. WE PROVIDE SUNSCREEN AND WILL APPLY IT TO EVERY CHILD ON WATER DAYS. THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT REQUIRES 2 HOURS MINIMUM OUTDOOR TIME. TO AVOID EXCESSIVE HEAT, OUR OUTSIDE TIMES WILL USUALLY BE IN THE EARLY MORNING, LATE AFTERNOON, AND IN SHORT (15-30 MINUTE) INTERVALS DURING THE DAY. STAFF– OUR SUMMER CAMP STAFF CONSISTS OF CERTIFIED SCHOOL TEACHERS, AS WELL AS COLLEGE STUDENTS AND SOME HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO SERVE AS ASSISTANTS. WE CONDUCT THOROUGH BACKGROUND CHECKS THROUGH THE CHILD ABUSE CENTRAL REGISTRY AND FBI ON ALL STAFF AGES 18 OR OVER. ALL OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS ARE WELL TRAINED IN POSITIVE DISCIPLINE TECHNIQUES AND MOST ARE CPR AND FIRST AID CERTIFIED. MANY OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS ARE ALSO RED CROSS CERTIFIED LIFEGUARDS. FIELD TRIPS AND SPECIAL EVENTS ARE FOR CHILDREN WHO MEET OUR HIGH BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS. THE DIRECTOR AND ASSISTANT DIRECTORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO WITHHOLD A CHILD FROM PARTICIPATING OR ATTENDING. TUITION IS NOT AFFECTED. PARENTS– PLEASE TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN REGULARLY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF ALWAYS BEING OBEDIENT AND RESPECTFUL. PARENTS OF PRE-K CHILDREN– EACH CHILD SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE HIS/HER SWIM BAG IN THE RESTROOM, CHANGE CLOTHES, AND QUICKLY PUT SWIMSUITS, SHORTS, SHIRTS, SOCKS, AND OTHER ITEMS IN HIS/HER BAG. PLEASE PRACTICE WITH YOUR CHILD AT HOME AS MUCH AS NECESSARY TO ENSURE HE/SHE CAN DO THIS WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT CHILDREN LEARN TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR BELONGINGS AT THIS AGE. THE “GRADES” LISTED FOR FIELD TRIPS REFER TO THE GRADE YOUR CHILD JUST COMPLETED (PRE-K= PRE-KINDERGARTEN, K=JUST FINISHED KINDERGARTEN, ETC…). GROUPS WILL BE “NAMED” DURING SUMMER ORIENTATION ON MAY 26. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD SIGNED IN EACH DAY IN TIME FOR HIS/HER FIELD TRIP. PLEASE SEND A SMALL PILLOW AND SMALL BLANKET EACH MONDAY. PILLOW AND BLANKET SHOULD BE IN A BAG OR BACKPACK THAT WILL FIT IN OUR CUBBIES. LARGE BED PILLOWS AND SLEEPING BAGS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. CLEAN OUT YOUR CUBBY AND TAKE EVERYTHING HOME EACH FRIDAY AS WE MUST HAVE THE BUILDING, INCLUDING CUBBIES, CLEAN FOR WEEKEND SKATING SESSIONS. Also, you may bring spending money to purchase snacks and drinks, or parents can put spending money on a Funtime gift card which we can hold for you. You may use our skates if you do not have your own, although we recommend purchasing your own pair. Skate days are like a field trip to the skating rink (we just don’t have to go anywhere), so there may be other groups skating as well. Our teachers closely supervise our children at all times, and the Funtime SKATELAND staff conduct the skating session. Pre K through 1st grade skate early by themselves and go on a field trip while the older children and other groups skate. MOVIES SWIMMING We go to Tinseltown in Pearl for a movie (G or PG) each week. No need to bring money. Please wear your Funtime shirt and be signed in by 8:30am every Tuesday. We swim on Thursdays at Cascades here in Clinton. Children should WEAR their swimsuits to Funtime on swim days. Please bring a swim bag with a towel and change of clothes. We must have parental permission and each child must pass a swim test to be allowed in the deep pool. ONLY those who have completed 1st grade will be allowed to take the swim test. All other children will only be allowed in the shallow pools. We swim before the pool opens to Cascade members. This is a very structured event that is highly supervised by our staff, many of whom are certified lifeguards. We will apply sunscreen before the bus leaves. Children may bring goggles and small swim toys but must keep up with them themselves. BRING-A-TOY DAY Every Tuesday is “Share-A-Toy” Day at Funtime. Children may bring a toy or game from home to play with and share with friends. I—Pods and other electronic devices are acceptable, however content will be closely monitored by our teachers. Funtime will not be responsible for lost items. BIKE DAY Bring your bicycle, tricycle, scooter, ride-on, or a toy! We will ride indoors and on the side parking lot. Make sure your bike is clean and in good working order. Helmets and pads are left to the parents’ discretion. We have an air compressor to inflate tires if needed. If you cannot bring a ride-on toy, you may bring any toy to play with during bike time. OPTIONAL FIELD TRIPS You may sign up your child for optional field trips which may be available on some Mondays. These are often out-of-town trips and require an additional charge. Check your calendar for available trips and details including eligibility requirements. PIZZA & HOT DOG PARTIES No need to pack a lunch on Mondays unless it’s for a field trip. Lunch will be provided at Funtime including chips and drink! FIELD TRIP DAY Each Wednesday afternoon, children will go on different field trips. Please check your calendar each day and dress appropriately for your field trip (shorts & tennis shoes for the park). Everything is included with tuition, so no extra money is needed! It’s not required, but we like for our children to wear their Funtime Summer Camp shirts for all field trips. ROTATIONS While at Funtime, children spend a great deal of time “rotating” through a variety of “centers”, or small-group activities. Centers typically include a small motor skill activity (arts and crafts), a bible story, an age-appropriate academic activity, and a couple of large motor skill activities or games (dodgeball, kickball, hockey, etc…). Every 20 minutes or so, each small group will rotate to the next activity. Rotations keep the children active and their minds occupied in a positive way. They help develop fine and gross motor skills and provide exercise accompanied by a lot of fun! Mental, physical, spiritual, and social development in a safe, structured, and positive environment.; that’s the Funtime way!
