GVMA GOALS
Our Mission Statement:
The mission of the Georgia Vegetation Management Association
(GVMA) is to act as a means for extending the knowledge of individuals
who have expressed interest and have experience in the management of
vegetation. The GVMA endorses the belief that each person responsible
for managing vegetation is also a steward of the environment and shall
consider all valid environmental concerns when making decisions for
the proper management of vegetation.
The intention of this fellowship of vegetation managers is to collect,
discuss and disseminate accurate and up to date information regarding
vegetation management. The objective will be to provide members and
other interested persons the tools necessary to make prudent and knowledgeable decisions in managing vegetation.
The association will be a strong advocate of integrated vegetation management practices. Many of the benefits and added values that our society enjoys require that certain practices be utilized. The association will
encourage mutual understanding and respect among those engaged in
the practice of managing vegetation.

VEGETATION
MANAGEMENT
Utilities, transportation departments, foresters, and aquatic and invasive
plant managers require a combination of control methods to practice integrated vegetation management. Integrated Vegetation Management
(IVM) is the systematic approach vegetation managers use to determine
the most appropriate vegetation management solution:
• Problematic species are identified,
• Action thresholds are considered.
• Various control options are evaluated.
• Selected control(s) are implemented.
Control options may include fire, biological, chemical, cultural, manual,
or mechanical techniques. The choice of control option(s) is based on effectiveness, environmental impact, site characteristics, worker and public
health and safety concerns, and economics.
