GBMCAA:HISTORY
HISTORY
The Greater Boston Morehouse College Alumni Association (GBMCAA) was founded in
1972. Like most alumni associations, the function of the GBMCAA is to serve the best
interests of the College within a particular geographical region, which in this case is
Boston and many of the surrounding communities throughout New England. The
organization has more than 100 members, the majority of whom are African American
male professionals or graduate students in the Greater Boston area.
MISSION
The GBMCAA provides educational development opportunities for Boston-area
students through scholarship and mentorship programs and affords alumni in Greater
Boston a medium for an ongoing relationship with Morehouse College.
VISION
The GBMCAA will encourage and promote a culture of scholarship and a community of
mentorship by developing a pipeline between Morehouse College and Greater Boston.
This vision will be realized by providing mentorship programs for local students, granting
full and partial scholarships to Boston-area students at Morehouse College, coordinating
internship programs with corporate partners, and linking graduates to career
opportunities in Boston. The GBMCAA will continually strive to be the leading chapter of
Morehouse College alumni.

GBMCAA:INITIATIVES
SCHOLARSHIP
Through our efforts and support over the last seventeen (18) years, the
Greater Boston Morehouse College Alumni Association has established the
Greater Boston Endowed Scholarship Fund based at Morehouse College.
The award amount for the expendable scholarship ranges from $2,500 for
the general awards to $4,500 for the special awards. Scholars are selected
and awarded by the end of the fall semester, and honored at our annual
MoreJazz Scholarship Gala, Glee Club Concert, and banquet, sponsored
by TJX Companies Inc., Davis, Robinson, & Malloy, LLP, Liberty Mutual
Insurance, and more.
MENTORSHIP
The GBMCAA Renaissance Club is an initiative that cultivates excellence
in scholarship and character among the male youth in the area. With
chapters at New Mission High School, Young Achievers Pilot School, and
the English High School, the Club serves as a support network for bright
young men who are focused and determined to be beacons of light for
their community. In addition, GBMCAA also participates in the Mother’s
Day Walk for Peace.
RELATIONSHIPS
The GBMCAA has dedicated itself to serving the needs of Boston and its
surrounding areas. Partnered with the Boston Spelman College Alumnae
Association chapter in Boston, we welcome new graduate students and
working professionals to the area in our annual "SpelHouse Mixer", and again
for our "Adopt a Family" event during the holiday season.
In January 2006, the GBMCAA organized the now annual "Martin Luther
King Jr. Day: A Day On For Service", where we prepare and serve breakfast
to the tenants of the Pine Street Inn in Boston.

YOUNG MEN’S
LEADERSHIP
CONFERENCE
RECEPTION
Directed by the renowned Dr. David Morrow, this distinguished all-male chorus
embraces 100 years of musical excellence and achievement. Through the
dedication and commitment of its members and the extraordinary leadership of its
directors, the Morehouse College Glee Club has provided an unmatchable
tradition of excellence & brotherhood in song. They have toured hundreds of cities
in over 25 countries on 3 continents. Now, these talented young men will lend their
gift of song to the greater Boston community in the majesty of Old South Church
singing in the genres of classical, folk, spiritual, and contemporary choral music.
Without doubt, this is a festival of music not be missed.
The Young Male Leadership Conference is an event that seeks to encapsulate and
engender the mission and vision of Morehouse College within young men of the
greater Boston community. The goal of this one-day conference is to offer
empowerment, enlightenment, and guidance to middle and high school males
of color in the greater Boston community.
The Greater Boston Morehouse College Alumni Association invites you to the 8th
Annual MoreJazz Experience at the Copley Square Lenox Hotel. Each year, the
MoreJazz Gala welcomes over 100 attendees for an evening of live
entertainment & philanthropy. All proceeds contribute to the GBMCAA
scholarship endowment and community initiatives, which provide financial
support to Boston-area students attending Morehouse College.
