She debuted as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Zurich during 2009/2010 and took part in concert performances of La Wally and Catarina Cornaro at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In July 2010 she debuted as Angelina in La Cenerentola at the Wildbad Festival and in Italy as Ferdinando in Pergolesi’s Flaminio at the Jesi Pergolesi Festival in June. Vuyani Mlinde studied at the Royal College of Music and as a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where he sang the roles of Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, Count Ceprano in Rigoletto, Tom in Un ballo in maschera and Leporello in Don Giovanni. Other roles have included Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Colline in La Bohème, Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin and Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro. Future engagements include Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Théâtre Champs Elysées, Paris and Annio in La Clemenza di Tito at the Teatro Real Madrid. During the 2010–11 Season he will perform in productions of Le nozze di Figaro, Don Carlo, Die Zauberflöte and Tosca at Oper Frankfurt. Now established as the bel canto tenor of choice for the world’s leading opera houses, we’re delighted to be working with him again. THURSDAY 20 TH JANUARY 2011, 7.30 PM ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL, SOUTHBANK CENTRE Born in Lima, Peru, Juan Diego Flórez is the world’s leading exponent of the bel canto operas of Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini, and has a repertoire of some thirty-two operas. He studied at Peru’s National Conservatory of Music and the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In April we welcome the 2009 winner of the inaugural Voice of Black Opera Competition, the superb British soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn who, after 10 years rest from singing, returned in October to critical acclaim in her English National Opera debut as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème. He made his professional debut in 1996 at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro in Matilde di Shabran and in 1999 debuted at La Scala, Milan, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the Vienna State Opera and at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 2002. Since then, he has appeared to worldwide acclaim in opera houses, concert halls and music festivals throughout Europe, North and South America, working with the world’s leading conductors. Italian mezzo-soprano Serena Malfi will give her debut London recital in May, while in June, South African bass Vuyani Mlinde, former member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, will bring the curtain down on the season.
