walks, activities and
events IN CALDERDALE
April 2016 march 2017
Jerusalem Farm Campsite
Jerusalem Farm is situated between Halifax and Hebden Bridge in the heart of the
picturesque Luddenden Valley in rural Calderdale. The campsite is on a flat grassy area
adjacent to Luddenden Brook and Wade Wood, which is designated as a Local Nature
Reserve due to it being a good example of mixed deciduous woodland. The site offers
campers all the basic facilities one would expect on a campsite without being
commercialised and has an added bonus in that the site is not accessible to cars (the car
parking area is a couple of minutes walk from the camping area) which helps create a feeling
of peace and tranquillity on the site. Jerusalem Farm is ideal for people who wish to escape
from the pressures of everyday life and offers visitors the opportunity to get back to nature
in an idyllic setting.
Site open:
Friday 1st April - Sunday 2nd October

APRIL 2016 - MARCH 2017
Welcome to the Safer, Cleaner, Greener walks
and events programme 2016/17. Thank you to
everyone who has put time and effort into making
the programme possible.
This year’s programme has a number of highlights
including several chances to climb Wainhouse
Tower, more walks from our Walks around the
coming to Ogden Water just before Christmas. For
those of you who like getting your hands dirty, we
have on offer lots of practical days to get involved
in and there are two training courses where you
can learn to weave with willow.
For families we have a variety of family learning
sessions where participants can learn more about
on offer.
We are thrilled that our partner organisations
have been able to offer walks for our programme
again this year. Special thanks to the West
Calderdale Ramblers, Cromwell Bottom Wildlife
Group, Calderdale Bird Conservation Group, CREW
and Calderdale Heritage Walks whose support
is very much appreciated as always. Thanks also
must go to all walk and event leaders; without
whom there wouldn’t be a programme and to
Adam Swift and Chris Sutcliffe who have supplied

Friends of
Calderdale’s Countryside
OF
I
The Friends are a group of volunteers who work in partnership with Calderdale
Countryside and Woodlands Service in the protection, enhancement and promotion
of Calderdale’s countryside. The Group is run by a small committee and holds an
Annual General Meeting in December each year to which all volunteers are invited.
The Friends Group was set up by volunteers and staff of Calderdale Countryside
Service, helped with funding from BTCV (now TCV) and the Bearder Trust.
One of the main aims of the Friends is to access funding from grant making bodies
to enable it to carry out projects across Calderdale and support other groups with
similar aims.
Since the Friends were set up a number of years ago it has been successful in
obtaining funds from a range of grant making bodies. This has enabled it to do work
on the permissive riverside footpath at Foster Bridge in Hebden Bridge, improve
and restore disabled access paths at Cromwell Bottom Local Nature Reserve
and undertake improvement work at Beechwood Park in Illingworth. It has also
purchased hedge laying tools and equipment including a moth trap, identification
leaflets, wildflowers, tepee and marquee. One of the Friends most successful
initiatives has been the production of 15 different leaflets of Walks around Villages in
Calderdale. These leaflets have been a great success necessitating the reprinting
of the most popular ones. Following the success of those leaflets the Friends have
also produced five new leaflets this year. The Walks Leaflets are available from
Tourist Information Centres, local libraries and other outlets across Calderdale.
We are always open to suggestions for projects to make improvements, protect,
look after and enhance the beautiful countryside we have in Calderdale and would
love to hear from like-minded people.

Ogden Water Country Park
Ogden Water is a beautiful Local Nature Reserve that comprises of a large reservoir
enclosed by woodland with open moor beyond. The heather uplands and peat
moors form part of a Special Protection Area that is of international importance for
breeding birds such as curlew, snipe, grouse and various birds of prey.
There are numerous woodland trails and waterside paths to explore, including 1¼
miles of wheelchair accessible pathway around the reservoir and through sections
of the woodlands. If you get up high to the edge of the woodlands you will be
