Indian Harbor Yacht Club Junior Sailing
Jacob Solomon, Sprite 2, steering an Ideal-18
This week, Sprite Is got in Optis for the first time. They all successfully completed the
capsize test before being able to take the Optis out by themselves. Emily towed them behind her
coach boat so they could get familiar with steering an Opti. Sprite 2s spent their 2 days this week
in Ideal-18s. They can now completely sail and rig the boat without any assistance.

Many Opti Is and 2s sailed in their first
regatta this past week on Friday. They
towed over to Riverside Yacht Club for
the Monkey Cup. The race committee
dressed up in monkey suits and they
used inflatable palm trees for the marks.

The afternoon sailors have been able to
have great practices with the wind
picking up later in the day. This week,
some 420 and Laser sailors raced at
Shelter Island Yacht Club. Rebecca
(skipper) and Isabella (crew) placed 9th!.
On Thursday, the afternoon sailors went
over to Belle Haven for the Captain’s Cup
awards ceremony and barbecue.
