FROM THE DESK OF FR. BURGOON:
WHO DO WE BELEVE GOD IS?
Someone once said, “It doesn’t matter what you believe about God, as long as you believe in God.
I disagree!! What we believe about God is of the utmost significance. In fact, everything depends on
who we think God is. If we believe God is a stern taskmaster, we will act from this belief and
possibly turn into something of a stern taskmaster ourselves. Or if we believe God is a big teddy bear in
the sky who does our bidding and supports our prejudices, we might more likely live in a lax and spoiled
manner.
In the first reading today, Moses receives the Ten Commandments from God for a second time. God’s
identity is revealed to Moses: God is “a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness
and fidelity.”
Is this the kind of God we believe in? If so, then how well do these words describe us?
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY: to all fathers; biological and spiritual, those here with us and those who
have gone on to eternal life. May God’s blessing be with you and your families always!
THANK YOU: This will be the last message that I will write to you as Pastor of St. Richard Parish.
These years as your Pastor have been a privilege for me. I will always treasure the many fine
people that I have met here. You have been most generous in sharing your TIME, TALENT AND
TREASURE – parishioners of all ages!
We are all on the journey to be with God. Let’s pray for one another that we will stay on course.
GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU.
