This is the first of two parables that Jesus tells in Luke 18
about prayer. This first parable is a lesson in persistence in
prayer. While the parable seems to present prayer as
nagging God for what we want, such a reading misses the
point. God is not like the judge in the parable, worn down by
requests and coerced to respond. The key is found in the
description of the judge as corrupt and unjust. Since God can
be neither, we must understand Jesus to be saying that if
even an unjust judge responds to the persistence of the
widow, how much more so will God listen to our prayers.
God truly wants to hear our needs and respond generously.
It is the final lament of Jesus that gets to the point of the
parable. The lesson is about the persistence of the one who
prays. God wants us to be like the persistent widow, staying
in relationship
with
God,
confident that
God hears and
a n s w e r s
prayers. Then
Jesus laments,
“Will such faith
be found when
the Son of Man
comes?” In this
lament, Jesus
notes how easy
it can be for us
to lose heart

With Fall Break in effect, this has
been a slow week. So we are taking time to re-energize, clean and
enjoy this gorgeous weather. All
of the teachers and caregivers
really needed a break like this.
We get so caught up in making
sure things are running smoothly
that we forget that we need to just
spend quality time with the
children instead of keeping our
focus on the learning aspect. We
just need to keep things fun! This
week our Preschool Pal visited us
and brought in books and an activity for the kids. The picture shows
Ms. Mendy reading to the group
before starting her project. This
was a welcomed break for the
teachers to observe instead of
teach.
We also participated in a fundraiser over the weekend. We brought
in $780. AMAZING!!! God is
good!!
Thanks to all who supported the
tamale sell, the money raised was
used to help a family at Crossroads
homeless shelter.
Family Connection
Children nag because it works. Parents, like the judge in the
parable, often get worn down by the persistence of their children
asking for things large and small. Nagging is not a positive
trait, to be sure. The confidence and the persistence behind this
behavior, however, confidence in the goodness of the giver and
the tenacity to stay in the relationship, are traits worth emulating in our relationship with God.
Read together Luke 18:1-8. Talk about appropriate ways to
make needs and desires known to one another and to God in
prayer. Recall that God wants to answer our prayers. As a
family, offer your needs as prayers of petition to God.
Cutoff date for bulletin announcements is
Tuesday afternoon. Please submit, in writing, any
announcements to the office or [email protected]

PRAYER FOR THE ELECTIONS
Faithful Citizenship– this is a call from the Holy Father.
Pope Francis tells us, “The people are sovereign. I will
only say: Study the proposals well, pray and choose in
conscience.” Prayer is the best “medicine” for our ailing
political climate. St. Stephen Cathedral, the mother
church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Owensboro, invites all the faithful to join together for Eucharistic Adoration. We will offer this time in the real presence of our
Lord and Savior as prayer for the elections, and for those
who will be elected to office. We will begin with Holy
Mass at 12:05pm, on Tuesday, November 8th, followed by
Exposition and Adoration until 6pm, when the polls close.
The church will be open to anyone who wishes to spend
some time in prayer for the election process. But, if you
are able to commit to a specific time, please contact the
Cathedral Parish Office. You may sign up for 30 minutes
or for an hour. 270-683-6525 or [email protected].
Invite your friends and neighbors to pray for guidance
during this election time. Please vote!

“ I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ
Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by
his appearing and his kingly power: proclaim the word;
be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient;
convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience
and teaching.” God is calling you today to proclaim His
word, to tell others of what great things He has done
for you and through you, to teach others about His power to save, and to preach the message of His Son, Jesus.
He reminds us that it is not always easy, or convenient,
but it is always a challenge worth accepting. To learn
