pier. Events such as the annual Classic Car Show and the July 4th fireworks display are both
held on or around the pier. No license is required to fish on the pier. However, please check
with the local Chamber of Commerce regarding license requirements for all sports activities.
Downtown is a perfect place to get a bite to eat or browse through the many interesting shops.
Pismo Beach is the focal point in a stretch of several beach towns. Pismo Beach Chamber of
Commerce: (805) 773-4382, 581 Dolliver, Pismo Beach. Pismo Beach Visitor and Conference Center
is located on 760 Mattie Rd., Pismo Beach or call them at (805) 773-7034 www.classiccalifornia.com.
Pismo State Beach is California’s only drivable beach. Here you can rent an all-terrain
vehicle for a ride on the shoreline and dunes that connect Grover Beach, Oceano & Nipomo.
Just past Grover Beach city limits sign there is an eucalyptus grove that is home to the
Monarch Butterflies.

Avila Beach is a must for lovers of warm beaches, fine dining, shopping, sport fishing
& people watching. The mineral springs and spas are well worth the scenic drive. Be
sure to take a leisurely walk on the 1.5 mile Bob Jones Trail. Directions to this fantastic
walk are: Take Avila Beach Rd. west, and turn right on Ontario Rd. to the parking area
at the trail head. The current section of the trail is paved and provides an easy level

Encourage the advertising restaurants, shops, and activities with your patronage and comments. Be sure to tell the merchants
and the restaurateurs that you saw their ad in the Welcome Map. Don’t forget wine tasting, either at an individual tasting room
or hire your own customized limousine tour!
Visiting Monarch
Monarch Butterfly Grove, the “Butterfly Trees” of Pismo Beach are one of our most beloved
attractions. From late October through February, thousands of colorful Monarch butterflies cluster
in the limbs of Eucalyptus and Monterey Pines in the area, giving the appearance of yellow and
orange leaves. They travel over the Sierra Mountains and west of the Rockies. Some come from as
far away as Canada to escape the colder temperatures of the north. For more information on the
Monarch Butterfly visit MonarchButterfly.org. The Monarch Butterfly Grove is located half a mile
south of Pismo Beach just off Hwy 1. For more information, please call the Pismo Beach Chamber
of Commerce at (805) 773-4382.
While visiting the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes there
are numerous opportunities for activity. Volunteers
and Staff host visitors to the Dunes Center,
present educational programs and serve as docents
for hikes and bird walks into the dunes. They offer
several walks each week which are open to the public
for free. They can also arrange tours for groups or
organizations by reservation. Please call (805) 343-2455
for group rates, availability and more information.
