That’s right - Saturday 10 October
Cummins will hold it’s 104th Annual Show.
This year sees the popular return of Adrian Harry with
his ‘XTREME TRIALS SHOW’. He is a master of
motor bike riding and stunts.
Who doesn’t like MAGIC? Jason Moore - ’Jase
the Ace’ has been doing magic since he was a
young child. He performs at many children's event
throughout SA. He will have a 30 minute Magic
Show on the stage and then he will wander around
modelling balloons.
Animals Anonymous - Wildlife on Wheels’
is wheeling into town from Adelaide. They teach
Conservation through Education so come and learn
about the animals; they hope to bring a couple of
marsupials, a tawny frogmouth, lizards, geckos, snake
and a baby croc. Visit their tent and maybe watch a
30 minute stage show.
For horse lovers, in addition to the three official rings
and the excitement of the Team Penners there will
be a 20 minute Stockmans Challenge on the main
arena demonstrated by local riders.
Have you started thinking about your ‘SCARECROW’
yet? What will he/she wear this year? Girls and boys
don't forget to enter the Show People competitions.
Already so much to see and do but then you can
enter all the sections and maybe win some prize
money. The Royal Medallion this year is Flowers,
visit the indoor trade stalls, the chooks and pigeons,
the machinery, the cars and utes competition, the
sheep.
And then you will be hungry and thirsty and, again,
there are many options to suit your palate including
fairy floss and show bags from YAK and toffee apples
from various vendors and our usual Ladies Auxiliary
lunch in the Hall.
While you relax over lunch, listen to the Music on
the Truck this year from young artist Taya Rose
who has been performing in Adelaide. She plays
music from the 30’s to the 60’s on her ukulele.
A favourite from last year was the ‘dunk a teacher’
- this year it has expanded to Dunk a Local - so if
you would like to volunteer before you get picked on
please let us know.
As you pick up your show book in the next few weeks
please take note of our many sponsors and support
them in return. We can’t thank them enough for their
generous support year after year.
Not many communities can boast an event running
for 104 years so thank you all for your continued
support, past, present and future. New memberships
and offers of help during show week and beyond are
always welcome. Please ring the show new phone
number—0403 711 518 or email Jenni Stephenson at

See you there on Saturday 10 October!

The Cummins Churches and the Cummins-Yeelanna RSL,
extend an invitation for Everyone to attend an Ecumenical
Service in St. Paul' s to Commemorate the 70th anniversary
of the end of World War II and, Vietnam Veterans Day.
15th August 1945 - VP Day, Victory in the Pacific (or VJ Day Victory over Japan), is the surrender of the Empire of Japan,
which was officially announced by Imperial Japan on the
afternoon of 15th August. The formal surrender ceremony
and document signing took place onboard the USS Missouri
in Tokyo Bay on 2nd September 1945.
This signing meant that we were again at peace, the war in
Europe having ceased in May 1945.
On August 18th 1966, the Battle of Long Tan in South
Vietnam took place, involving Australians from D Company of
the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.
This battle and the date are now used as Australia's Day
of Remembrance for their involvement in Vietnam, hence
Vietnam Veterans Day.
Following the Service, morning tea will be held in the
Lutheran Church Hall, please bring along a plate of morning
tea to share, thank you.

New Owners for Cummins Milling Flour
After the possibility of closing, a new chapter was celebrated
last Friday as Maika & Glenys Sauturaga take on Cummins
Milling Flour. Staff, their families and members of the business
community numbering 35 enjoyed pizza using the local flour
and made by hosts for the evening Michael and Katy Agnew of
Five Loaves Bakery, Cummins.
Maika Sauturaga, originally from Fiji, who has been working
at the mill for over two years, welcomed everyone. This was
followed by some reflections from Rev. Sue Ellis who then read
out a blessing she had written for the mill.
The Sauturagas are keen to see the continuation of Eyre
Peninsula grain being made into a great product. It is used by
those who bake in their own homes, along with local bakeries
and restaurants, supplied to pizza shops right across Adelaide,
and special bread mixes are sent interstate to NT and WA on a
regular basis.
“The orders keep coming in so we look forward to growing
and expanding and putting our region on the map.” - Maika
Sauturaga
New owners Maika & Glenys Sauturaga with their son, Illy
“We are excited to be continuing a tradition of a product
that brings farmers and local business together, creates
employment and becomes delicious food! - Glenys Sauturaga
Cummins Mill Stockfeed still operates alongside the flour
section, continuing a tradition of regional milling no longer
present in so many of our regions.
David Guidera, Richard Pope, Chris Miller & Rosalie Baillie attended the
Bakery dinner to celebrate the Sauturaga’s new enterprise.

New Business: Breathe Balance
Cummins welcomed a new business recently
in Breathe Balance which is located behind
the Cummins Massage & Beauty Room next
to the Chemist on Bruce Terrace. This is the
culmination of a long held dream for Emma
Gale, which is to bring complimentary holistic
therapies to help people achieve mind, body
and spiritual balance in their lives.
Emma Gale is offering both guided
meditation and Bowen Therapy at Breathe
Balance. If you are like me, you may not
have heard of Bowen Therapy, or know
what it involves. It is a non-invasive, gentle,
soft tissue Therapy that releases muscles
and flushes toxins out of the body. It can be
beneficial in a wide range of situations and
is suitable for all ages - from newborn to the
elderly. It can assist in recovery from many
conditions from traumatic injuries to chronic
illness by promoting healing, relieving pain,
stress and tension and improving overall
recovery times. Conditions that it has been
shown to be helpful for are many and varied.
They range from back pain and leg and foot
problems, digestive and bowel problems
to migraines, respiratory conditions and
hormonal irregularities, even colic in babies.
It has been a long journey for Emma to get
to this moment. Since the age of 12, Emma
would sit in her room, listen to Deep Forest
and focus on her breathing. She didn’t
know it at the time but this was meditation
and it helped her find calm in amongst her
sister’s illness and the breakdown of her
parent’s marriage. When Emma's mum
Jan was diagnosed and then went through
treatment for breast cancer, the power of
meditation was truly brought home. Emma
and Jan found great strength and peace from
meditating together, even in tough times they
would put a guided meditation CD on in the
hospital room and find some balance. Emma
witnessed her mum's mind and spirit become
stronger through meditation even while her
body became sicker. The calmness that Jan
achieved in the face of her illness and death
made Emma realise that she wanted to
guide people in meditation - especially those
people who are very ill or terminal.
Jan's experience has also driven Emma's
interest in oncology massage. She could see
such a need for complimentary therapies
for people being treated for cancer and
other illnesses on Eyre Peninsula. Many
patients look for ways to compliment the
formal medical treatment they are receiving,
however, the choices in the Cummins area
have been limited.
The wish to help others through oncology
massage has been in the back of Emma's
mind ever since Jan's passing but she was
hindered by doubt. This all changed when
Emma had Sage, Emma and Braden's
daughter. After going through labour Emma
realised that if she could give birth she could
do anything and she wasn't going to let fear
hold her back.
Emma then had to come up with a plan to
make things happen. Oncology massage
cannot be studied on its own and must be
combined with another Therapy so Emma
went to a Cancer Care Expo to explore what
would compliment this Therapy. That was
where she was put on the path to Bowen
Therapy which among many other things is
used in flushing the toxins out of the body
during chemoTherapy. Bowen Therapy is a
good fit with oncology massage as it is gentle,
non-invasive and soft to touch. After several
false starts, the arrival of son Rocco and some
deep soul searching to be sure this was where
she wanted to focus, Emma embarked on her
Certificate 4 in Bowen Therapy. This was a
huge undertaking over 7 months for the Gale
family with Emma travelling to Adelaide for
courses and then studying at home with 2
young children.
Part way through these studies Emma came
back to meditation and began to think about
how this could be part of her business and
worked towards being able to offer both
services. The passion for Emma has always
been meditation and oncology massage but
the vehicle to be able to offer these has been
Bowen Therapy. Through her studies Emma
came to see the power and benefit of Bowen
Therapy in a huge range of treatments
and believes the three therapies to be a
perfect fit. She is looking forward to offering
oncology massage upon completion of her
course.
Emma is so excited to fulfill this long-held
dream to be able to offer the people of
lower Eyre Peninsula these complimentary
therapies and it seems that she is not alone
with a huge interest in the guided meditation
sessions for beginners and Bowen Therapy.
We wish her all the very best with this new
phase of her life.
You can phone Emma on 0415490060 or

updated with events.

One year on from the Cummins District Community Bank®
Community Funding Forum
Defibrillators for Coffin Bay & Wudinna Communities
An initiative to come from the 2014 Forum was to have two defibrillators placed around
the Community. Coffin Bay & Wudinna were the lucky recipients, with the Coffin Bay
Defibrillator being placed at the Post Office, and the Wudinna Defibrillator being placed at
the Sporting Complex. The presentations of the two defibrillators were made on Tuesday
2nd December, 2014 by Braden Gale, Branch Manager of Cummins District Community
Bank, who was accompanied by Mike Clutterham, Bendigo Bank State Community
Strengthening Manager SA/NT, and Melissa Oudshoorn, Youth Development Officer from
St John SA. This grant totalled $4790, and is a worthy project to the Coffin Bay &
Wudinna communities.
Upgrade of the Playground for Yallunda Flat Showgrounds
The Yallunda Flat Cricket Club through George Pedler & Jarred Bates took on this
project, to have new equipment put in place, as well as upgrading the existing structures
that are already there. The vision for this project was to create a more accessible and
safer playground, for all within the local community, as well as outside visitors who utilise
the showgrounds and its facilities. A grant of $10,000 was approved, and progress has
been made with the new equipment ordered for installation in late September. New
inclusions to the playground will include a big shaded area, new equipment (mainly aimed
at pre-schoolers), removal of old and damaged trees and new sand. We look forward to
seeing further progress over the next few months.
Community Bus
The District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula staff have been meeting with
representatives of the Cummins District Community Bank Board for the past six months
to determine the level of demand for the service, the type of bus that would be required,
and how this service could be delivered to the community. Several models for operating
the service have been considered, including a partnership between the Bank and the
District Council, or the Bank and a private operator. Discussions about how this service
can be provided are continuing. More information to come in the future months regarding
this exciting service.
Walking/Health Trail
The Cummins & District Enterprise Committee are very excited about their walking track
project. Still in its design phase, it is hoped that Stage One of this project can be
completed by the end of 2015. There will be four tracks in total which will begin at the
Railway Triangle where route maps and distances will be displayed. These tracks will be
of varying lengths and will be marked throughout the town, along with distances. They
will incorporate the existing workout station at the Cummins Community Library and will
see the installation of a second, different ‘Exersite’ at the Cummins Showground's under
the existing stage shelter. One of these tracks will incorporate the Railway Dam which
will receive some much needed TLC before becoming a peaceful walking and picnic
location. To keep updated, like the Cummins & District Enterprise Committee on
Facebook.
Railway Triangle Upgrade
The grant from Cummins District Community Bank has allowed a number of
improvements to progressively occur at the Cummins Railway Triangle Park. The toilet
block has a new roof and up-to-date plumbing throughout.
The building is in the process of enhancement with mosaic art pieces and historic
photographs decorating the interior and exterior
walls. A new fence now surrounds the eastern
section of the park, and approval has been
received for the installation of two new shelters
above two new BBQ areas with table settings. All
is planned to be completed in time for Spring
weather.
Upgrade of the Cummins Airstrip
Three aborted Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) landings at the Cummins airstrip to
retrieve patients in 2014 created community pressure to upgrade the surface of the
landing strip. Localised flooding during the unusually wet winter resulted in water
ponding on either end of the runway, reducing its effective length from 1207 metres to
less than 1000 metres. To create a long-term solution to the flooding issue, and to
ensure that the RFDS is able to maintain emergency services to Cummins and its
surrounding districts, the runway and its shoulders need to be lifted and drainage works
carried out to manage water flow through the precinct.
This solution initially requires detailed survey work to be completed, primarily around the
design options and the impact drainage works would have on the airstrip, its surrounds
and neighbouring property. The Cummins District Community Bank has provided a
$4334 grant to the District Council to undertake the survey, which will be completed in
August. Following this survey it is expected the remedial works to manage the drainage
issues will cost about $200,000. Council and Cummins District Financial Services have
committed to jointly funding the remedial works to a value of $200,000.
