Fáilte chuig an Irish Redhead Convention 2016!
Thank you all for making the journey to Crosshaven to join us at the 7th Irish Redhead Convention. We are really excited about the
programme this year with many new fun additions including the world’s largest redhead ceili, a silent disco, informative redhead seminars,
redhead photographic and painting exhibitions and some amazing musicians performing on the Foxygen & ElectRED picnic stages including
Miles Graham, Orla Gartland and the infamous MOGO (Music of Ginger Origin) Awards!
Throughout the festival, watch out for local Crosshaven residents wearing “Ginger Loving Local” badges all weekend, as we welcome
redheads from around the globe to our beautiful village and local community.
A massive thank you to the hardworking volunteer team Clodagh, Denis, Patrice, Pepi and Gary who put in hours
and hours of work all year round to make this event possible and the 50+ volunteer team who will also join us this
weekend. It is a pleasure to work with such enthusiastic and dedicated people to the ginger cause! Without you, this
party could not happen!
Please support our sponsors, partners and advertisers whose contribution is invaluable. And finally, as redheads
with fair skin and lots freckles, we are delighted to continue our charity partnership with the Irish Cancer Society.
Our message this summer is to be safe and be smart in the sun. Seek shade, cover up and wear lots of sunscreen!
Enjoy the weekend, tweet us a pic #FoxyFest and have lots of foxy fun!

Saturday, 11.30 - 12.15
Fresh from the Edinburgh
Fringe Festival this is one
man show by Scottish
actor and “River City”
star Gary Lamont. He will
perform a flaming fanfare
and musical tribute to his
fellow redheads, from Cilla
to Sonia and Lulu to Bette,
alongside funny stories
and tales of life as a young
ginger lad growing up in
Glasgow’s Castlemilk estate
before making it big
on Scotland’s favourite TV
soap. But the big question is - can Gary win a MOGO Award
(Music of Ginger Origin)? Yes they really do exist!

launch his 26-hour busking challenge
to help children in need throughout
the migrant crisis. His busk promise
brought him to streets all over Cork in
winter 2015. We are honoured to have
him join us on the Foxygen stage.

Crosshaven Ukuladies
Sunday, 12 - 1pm
The Crosshaven Ukuladies are a passionate group of women who
live locally, love to sing and play the ukulele. The group really
define the essence of the great Crosshaven community spirit
through song and merriment. They are your mum, your neighbour,
your best friend and today they are your entertainers. So come
along and let the Ukuladies charm you with their ensemble of
familiar, happy songs.
Orla Gartland
Sunday, 1.20 - 2pm
Orla Gartland is Ireland’s hidden ginger gem. Her sound, lyrics
and music are catchy and full of meaning, with a contagious
on-stage energy. She is quirky, passionate about delivering
quality music for herself and fans and one of the most amazing
up and coming musicians of this decade!

Any redhead ukulele players with their own instruments in the

The group will also be joined on
stage by young Music 4 Children
students for selected songs.
Sillk
Sunday, 4 - 5pm
Sillk is a chamber folk trio featuring Orla Travers, Julian Halpin,
and Chris Schmidt-Martin. They come from quite diverse creative
backgrounds, including short fiction and theatre, and classical,
traditional, and electronic music.
The coming together of eclectic musical backgrounds, coupled
with Orla’s songwriting, makes Sillk’s style hard to define. The
songs they create contain stories that are innocent and dark,
sweet and caustic, playful and threatening. Sillk are currently
working on their debut EP – ‘Time as a Clock’ – which is due for
release in 2016.

Miles Graham
Sunday, 3 - 3.40
Miles Graham’s songs are real
and authentic. He has a warm,
magnetic voice that compares
to none and a songwriting
talent possessed of something
of the quality of a younger Van
Morrison. Described by Bono,
his songs bring to mind ‘eternal
melodies that you can’t imagine
not existing’.
This Dublin born redhead and
talented artist is one of this
year’s MOGO nominees. His
2016 debut EP received critical
acclaim and he has been
capturing attention on UK radio, play listed on over 30 regional
UK radio stations this year.

Mr Fox!
On display all weekend at
ElectRED Picnic Stage!
Have you ever thought.... Gee I’d love my very own big steel
sculpture of a fox? Well here’s your chance!
Exhibition can be seen in the Mad
Fish Dining Room at Cronin’s Pub.
Exhibition is open daily and runs
from August 10 - September 17.
Find out more on kerrycollins.ie
The Irish Redhead Convention and super sculptor Lynn
Kirkham would like to invite you to the auction of Mr Fox.
Mr Fox will be going under the hammer on Sunday, 21st
of August at the Irish Redhead Convention in Crosshaven.
Bidding will start at 3:45 on Sunday afternoon with a reserve
price of €6000. 5% of the proceeds of the sale will go to the
Irish Cancer Society.
This magnificent sculpture was built by artist Lynn Kirkham
and welding extraordinaire Pepi Mara at Lynn’s Greenmantle
Art studio in Co. Tipperary. Each of the 400+ pieces of steel
plate were cold worked by hand to create this wonderfully
detailed and unique piece.
“The Irish Redhead” a talk with
author Jacky Colliss Harvey
Red: A History of the Redhead is the first book to explore
the history of red hair and redheaded-ness throughout the
world. However, Red is more than a book for redheads, it is
the exploration of evolution and gene mutation, as well as
a compelling social and cultural study of how prejudice and
misconceptions of “other” evolve across centuries and continents
and are handed down through generations and from one culture
to another. Author Jacky Colliss Harvey will present two talks on
her research.
Saturday & Sunday at 2pm at Crosshaven Community Centre
Jacky will present a talk entitled “The Irish Redhead” which
will look at the most influential Irish redheads in our history and
explore red hair throughout the ages, including science, religion,
politics, feminism and sexuality, literature, and art.
Not to be missed!

Photo Studio & Exhibition of Redhead
Portraits by Jörg Köster
Photographer Jörg Köster has snapped over a thousand individual
red haired men, women and children for this portrait project, which
features the full colour spectrum, ranging from strawberry blonde
to flaming auburn. The ongoing photography project began five
years ago when the advertising, fashion and food photographer
by profession developed an interest in redheaded subjects after
shooting Irish clothing products for German catalogues.
An exhibition of 50 of these large scale portraits took place in
both Cork and Dublin airport this year and can now be seen in
Crosshaven Community Centre during the Convention. Also make
time to visit Jörg and his team who will be shooting new portraits
from his studio in the village square.
Photo Studio is open Sat & Sun from
11am - 5pm in the Village Square.
Prints will be available to purchase
Exhibition is on display Sat & Sun from
