The school for girls in Crown Heights,
Brooklyn, was established in 1999, by
a small team of individuals who
wanted better than the mediocre.
Their vision was to create a learning
environment that promoted traditional
and chassidic values through modern
methods and technique. Bnos
Menachem, literally the daughters of
Menachem refers to the Lubavitcher
Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M.
Schneerson, who spoke with great

Menachem enjoys the reputation of
the school that offers balanced Judaic
studies and general studies

curriculum, plus many avenues for
discovery and promotion.
At the academic level, our teachers
are regular participants in workshops
to improve their professionalism and
knowledge. They customize the
lesson so all of the students can
benefit. Concepts are woven into
practical messages, via smart board,
projector or video presentation, which
means they are readily absorbed and
retained. Principals meet often with
teachers to review and enhance the
lesson and method of delivery. Open
communication with parents is
welcomed and appreciated.

Bnos Menachem invests much time
and energy into the details, which
change this school from a brick place
of learning to a warm
learning environment. Every teacher
looks to the welfare and well being of
students and makes recommendations
that will support the student as
needed. Our in house mental health
professional is available daily to meet
with any child of any age for any
reason. Students enjoy two meals a
day, served with a variety of options to
appeal to most preferences. Written
work and art work is proudly
displayed. We encourage students and

Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor
Professor Elie Wiesel has worked on behalf
of oppressed people for much of his adult
life. His personal experience of the
Holocaust has led him to use his talents as
an author, teacher and storyteller to defend
human rights and peace throughout the
world. His more than 60 books have won
numerous awards.

Itay Berger, born and raised in Israel, has had an
exciting and most interesting career. Itay had a short
professional career as a soccer player on the Israeli
National Team playing a midfield position. He then
went on to serve in the Israel Defense Force for
three years in the Air Force. After serving in military,
Berger attended Law School in Israel and began his
professional career working for one of the largest
law firms in Israel, specializing in commercial and
real estate law.
After only two years of practicing law, Itay Berger
accepted a family offer to enter the
diamond industry. He began working for Diamonds
Direct’s parent company, head-quartered in Israel.
After studying and mastering the fundamentals and
intricacies of the diamond trade, Berger was asked
to relocate to Charlotte, NC to serve as Vice
President of Diamonds Direct’s first retail store,
Diamonds Direct Southpark in Charlotte, NC.
With great dedication and focus Berger developed
the Charlotte store and set his sights on opening

new locations across the US to showcase Diamonds
Direct’s exceptional business philosophy. In 2005,
Berger started the Diamonds Direct Foundation, a
501-C3 non-profit organization that focuses on
giving back to the communities where their
businesses are located, in particular to women and
children organizations.
Diamonds Direct has been honored as one of the
top 20 independent jewelers in the US, due in large
to Berger’s dedication to the business. Berger has
since opened four more locations- Raleigh, NC,
Birmingham, AL, Richmond, VA and Austin, TX, and
is in the process of developing several others.
Berger is now the President of Diamonds Direct and
his future career aspirations include expanding the
Diamonds Direct concept and philosophy to other
markets. With the unique concept of mining,
cutting, and selling directly to the public, Berger
truly believes Diamonds Direct can revolutionize
the way diamonds are priced and sold.

in Westchester with their children,
Leo, Evelyn and Ruby. Caryn is a
partner at DLA Piper specializing in
securities and white collar litigation
with a strong concentration of
international clientele. Mrs. Schechtman is the Chair of
Foundation of Northern Westchester
Hospital and sits on the Board of
Trustees of the hospital as well. Caryn
is an active member of her children’s
secular school and Chabad of Bedford
Hebrew School communities. David
is a senior executive managing

and former litigator at DLA Piper
where the couple met. As a 1993
graduate of the Ivy League Torah Study
Program, David and Caryn credit their
family, the Rebbe, the Rebbe’s
Shluchim and dear friends in the
Lubavitch and other Chasidim
communities for sparking the
yiddishkeit which the couple are
blessed to continue to foster in
their home.

Bnos Menachem School
for Girls.
When Bnos Menachem opened our doors in
1999, we chose to grace our school with the
name of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi
Menachem Mendel Schneerson, thus “Bnos
Menachem”, Daughters of Menachem, with the
sincere anticipation that the school would
model its method in the ways of the Rebbe’s
teachings and the students would be
representative of the Rebbe’s vision for young
women in today’s society.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, stresses the
tremendous importance of education,
educating children and educating women,
noting that the woman, who is the mainstay
of the home, sets the tone of the home and
the direction in which she leads her children.
Using the Rebbe’s directives for guidance,
we share with each young woman the
mitzvos that pertain to her, and their
meanings, so that she will be confident and
capable to
answer those who may question her. The
messages she has absorbed through warmth
and understanding will be easy to
communicate to others. The Rebbe’s constant
encouragement and unwavering vision to
prepare the world for the arrival of
Moshiach, is an actuality.
Our Sages declared that it was through the
merit of righteous women, that our
forefathers were redeemed from Egypt. In
the merit of today’s women, we will merit the
forthcoming redemption of our people. We
embrace the challenge and
responsibility to raise young women with
finesse, purpose and privilege, instilling
within them confidence, competence and
compassion.

Thank you for celebrating with us at the
Gala Dinner for Bnos Menachem School.
Tonight, we are reaffirming our promise to
Educate, Encourage and Empower every
student to reach her full potential. We are
hoping to provide the necessary classroom
tools to enable every teacher to say “I can
reach every student” and every parent to
say “Bnos Menachem cares about my
child.” Indeed, Bnos Menachem utilizes
tremendous resources to demonstrate our
concern for the physical, emotional and
spiritual well being of every child.

Offering a good education means
combining a comfortable environment
with a structured curriculum, and satisfying
the tremendous thirst for knowledge. Our
school hopes that every graduate will
become an ambassador of Chabad, an
exemplary model of our faith, and a
representative of Bnos Menachem,
wherever life takes her. With these
expectations in mind, we need to make
sure that she is fully equipped to pursue
her dreams and utilize all her formative
years to reach her goals.
