2016 DISTRICT 12 AAA VOLLEYBALL Runner – Up 10/4/16
To reach the championship game Hillsboro first had to defeat
the Lady Hilltoppers of Hillwood, which was accomplished in
three sets.
On the opposite end of the court, McGavock and Overton battled
it out for the other spot for the regional advancement.
In previous regular season play, the Lady Raiders and Lady
Bobcats have played some of the most exciting volleyball of
the 2016 season. McGavock won both matches in battles that
would volley wins in sets creating an added tension that
carried over into the district tournament. McGavock would win
the 5th set in the district match 15-12, ironically the same
score as the two previous meetings between the Lady Raiders
and the Lady Bobcats.
Following the district championship game, All District
players, MVP and Coach of the Year were announced. The
following were awarded distinctions to 12 AAA Players and
Coach:

MNPS Jamboree
Metro Nashville Public Schools announces the schedule 48th
Annual Metro Nashville Football Jamboree and the most current
roster of coaches for each of its high schools.
The 48th Annual Metro Nashville High School Football Jamboree
is the one of Nashville’s best exhibition of high school
football and is the city’s first major football event of the
2016 season.
This tradition, started by a few Nashville Interscholastic
League coaches, serves as a competitive event for MNPS teams
would otherwise not play each other due to different
classifications or regions.
Fans get a chance to see their team in action against against
a non-regular season school, raise a little money for the
district’s athletic fund which is used to pay for ambulances
and trainers.
This worthy fundraiser and exciting event is only six dollars
and fans are assured a contest they will remember.
No longer one evening the Jamboree is spread over three days:
Thursday, 8/11/16, Friday, 8/12/16, and Saturday, 8/13/16 in
three different locations hosts allows all 13 MNPS high
schools and a local private school, Mt. Juliet Christian
Academy.
This year the schedule is:
Match-ups are scheduled for three
sites,
Admission is $6.
Our subscribers and readers can look forward to head coach and
player interviews from all 14 schools that participate in the
Jamboree, along with our the announcement at the end of the 3day event of The Nashville Beat’s Preseason ALL JAMBOREE MVPs,
All Offensive and Defensive Team, previews of of the 2014
season and a lists, stats and more lists.
Jamborees are an excellent time to see mid-state talent
perform in a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.
Fans who have made it a tradition to attend all three night
are always excited to see their team play in a game situation
that is not drills in practices or controlled scrimmages.
This tradition of playing a school who you would not
necessarily play during a regular season game, is a dress
rehearsal for the players, and at every host location.
Head Coach Announcements
Metro Nashville has had a few Head coaching changes most
notably Michael Woodward who left Overton as an assistant
coach to become the head coach at Antioch High School.
Woodward has previously been a head coach at Antioch, and
assistant at Brentwood High School before joining Overton for
one year.
Another notable is Hillsboro’s head coach, Craig Clayton,
returns to coach another season though he has officially
retired as a teacher.

OVERTON
BOYS TENNIS TEAM
Overton’s Boys Tennis Team continues to dominate District 12
AAA. Terry Strickland, Athletic Business Manager and Outdoor
Education instructor at Overton High School has a unique
approach to working with the students.
Those who have been coached by Coach Strickland all say that
you have to know “he is always watching” because his
expectations are extremely high, and if you let down in play
for even a minute, he knows – even if you think he isn’t on
the court – he just seems to know.
“But no one loves us more, and not because we win.” said
current All District team member Nick McNeal. “He just wants
us to do our best and I have never wanted to do my best for
anyone more than him.”
This is the second year in a row that the Bobcats have won the
12 AAA District title as a team, and they have won it 3 of the
last 4 years.
