CoBiz Financial C O M M U N I T Y
REPORT
With more than 20 years behind us, CoBiz Financial
looks ahead to what the next 20 years will bring.
Placing community at the very heart of what
we do, we are committed to a culture that
gives back and inspires volunteerism and a
passion to support our local communities in
Colorado and Arizona.
CoBiz celebrates community service through
three important and unique philanthropic arms.
Through these strong programs, we give back to
the community financially; encourage employees to
affect change by volunteering their time and talents;
and continue to engage and be present in the many
activities and events doing good in our local communities.
CoBiz has been committed to giving back to our community since
the very beginning, knowing that we are making a real difference to
programs and the people they serve.
Corporate citizenship continues to be the cornerstone of our company mission and we are proud to
contribute to making our communities stronger. We are honored to highlight our contribution to the
community, and graciously extend our gratitude to our employees, customers and supporters who play
a valuable role in making it possible.

& communities
Since its 2001 inception, the Biz Bash continues to be an annual company highlight,
featuring an exciting, casual, fun concert fundraiser benefiting local children’s nonprofit
organizations. CoBiz underwrites a portion of the event, while managing all aspects of
the planning and execution. Employees, clients, vendors and community partners
contribute to the fundraising efforts by selling event sponsorships and tickets;
and procuring unique auction items – all raising funds for our beneficiaries.
Biz Bash entertainers continue to be a who’s who in rock ‘n roll history. Celebrating
the 15th year in Colorado, the legendary Kenny Loggins played to a full house at
Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium. Arizona welcomed The Gin Blossoms, a Phoenix-area
homegrown favorite, at the 9th annual Biz Bash in October.
More importantly, Biz Bash proceeds were $280,000 in Colorado, donated to Hope
House of Colorado and Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center; and $148,000 to Child
Crisis Arizona and ICAN in Arizona. These remarkable numbers bring our total Biz Bash
distribution funds to more than $4.5 million!

Child Crisis Arizona
Hope House of Colorado
ICAN
Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center
The merger of Child Crisis Nursery, Inc. and Child Crisis Center in
2015 brought together two stellar organizations in the Valley with a
combined 71 years of serving Arizona’s most vulnerable children from
abuse and neglect. Child Crisis Arizona offers emergency children’s
shelter care; prevention and education services and programs; and
foster care and adoption services. With a vision of a community where
children and families have the support and opportunities they need to
thrive, they strengthen families by providing a safe environment for
children to learn and heal.
ICAN is a free, family-centered youth service organization based in the
East Valley of the Phoenix metro area that provides a full complement
to programs proven effective in equipping youth to achieve personal
and academic success by tackling substance abuse, gang involvement
and juvenile delinquency. Since 1991 ICAN has touched and changed
the lives of thousands of elementary to high school aged youth.

Hope House is metro-Denver’s only resource providing free selfsufficiency programs to parenting teen moms, including residential,

programs, mentoring, early learning, life skills workshops and
certified counseling – all designed to prepare them for long-term
independence. Hope House relies on numerous volunteers and local
business partnerships to accomplish its mission of serving 150 teen
moms and 225 children annually.
The Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center transforms the lives
of abused, neglected, and at-risk children through compassionate
legal advocacy, community education and public policy reform. The
Children’s Law Center works to prevent abuse, protect children who
have suffered devastating maltreatment and prepare children for a
future that is abuse free – a life full of promise and hope.

On behalf of the professional staff and board of Child
Crisis
Arizona we would like to extend a special thanks to CoBiz Financial
for hosting AZ Biz Bash. You have helped keep vulnerable children safe
from abuse and neglect and to make families stronger by providing financial
support. The foster care system in Arizona is in a crisis with more than 19,000
children in out-of-home care. This shows that the services Child Crisis Arizona
offers are more in-demand than ever before. The proceeds from Biz Bash help to
ensure we can continue to help find safe and stable homes for children. Thank you.
- TORRIE TAJ, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Being a beneficiary of the 2014 and 2015 Arizona Biz Bash was an amazing experience.
The funds raised by Biz Bash have a direct impact on ICAN’s ability to continue to provide
more than 1,300 at-risk youth with free after school and summer programming empowering
youth to be productive, self-confident, and responsible members of the community. Without
the generosity and support of community partners like CoBiz Financial, the youth ICAN
serves – over 80% of which live below the federal poverty line – would not have equal access
to the tools they need to achieve academic and personal success.
“

“
The funds Hope House received as a Biz Bash beneficiary proved to be actual game
changers for us. Because transportation is one of the biggest barriers our teen moms face
when working toward self-sufficiency, the purchase of two vans has given us the ability to
transport our girls to class, medical appointments, GED exams and more. We also used
some of the funds to purchase IT equipment, which has increased the efficiency of the
organization as a whole. Biz Bash truly made a significant difference for us on
the program and administrative sides, empowering us to serve more teen
moms than ever before.
“
- LISA STEVEN, FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Children’s Law Center is honored to have
been chosen as one of the beneficiaries by the CoBiz
Financial Biz Bash. The funds help us advocate for more
than 2,300 abused and neglected children every year and
to act as their voice during their time of crisis. We establish
caring, personal relationships with our child clients and fight
for their best interests, because every child matters.

$1 million Milestone
Thanks to the joint generosity of CoBiz Financial employees and company dollars, the CoBiz
Cares Foundation proudly crossed the $1 million milestone of grants awarded to not-for-profits
in Arizona and Colorado in 2016, funding 202 unique organizations since 2009. Funds are
raised during our annual employee giving campaign, the Give Initiative, and throughout the
year with employees joining forces to host fun and engaging department fundraisers.
Employee Volunteerism
and Not-for-Profit Board Service
CoBiz employees are encouraged to donate their time and talents in supporting issues that are important to them. Employees participate
in all kinds of activities – from bicycle tours and team walks to service project days and bake sales – we encourage employees to rally together
to give back to our local communities in ways that are meaningful to them.

local, state and
national organizations.

WellBiz
Our commitment to our community extends to
focusing on strengthening the health and wellbeing of our employees. Both are core values for
our company, and we’re fortunate that it’s possible
to do both at the same time. Our employees
walk, run, ride, paint and mud-volleyball-it-up –
anything to get their hearts pumping and create
awareness for local organizations. Families and
friends are always welcome to join in and support the
amazing causes we endorse.
Serving the Business
Needs of Not-for-Profit
Organizations
At CoBiz Financial, we understand that not-forprofit organizations are businesses as well. Our
comprehensive, cohesive products are tailored to
nonprofits and community agencies. Our goal is to
give these fantastic organizations the freedom to do
the work they do best – helping our communities.
