LYMED® Oy is a manufacturer of high class techno-medical garments with over 20-year
experience. Carefully chosen materials are used in manufacturing, enabling us to design
pressure garments that are comfortable to wear, look good and give the best possible result in
pressure treatment.
LYMED® garments are manufactured in our own production facilities in Tampere, Finland. In close
cooperation with hospitals and research centers we develop and improve our pressure garments
and pressure treatment constantly.
LYMED® pressure garments are used to treat several indications. Garments can be used in scar,
edema and post-operational treatment as well as being used as support garments for CP and
autistic individuals. The individual needs, e.g. the position of the injury, patient’s age and
general health, are all taken into consideration when the garment is designed.
The unique pattern system – developed and used by Lymed® – can achieve the desired pressure
where ever needed. The pressure can also vary depending on the treatment or it can be built to
be different in various parts of the garment.
Lymed® has its own reception where our designers meet the patients on a daily basis. The
closeknit contact with our clients helps us to stay on top of their needs and enables us to grow
and develop actively.

To expand the life span of used LYMED® products,
as well as other physical and occupational
therapy aids, we have begun a relief project to
gather therapy aids to Tanzania. All aids in good
shape – even with a little wear – are accepted.

forward via our controlled network.
We operate apolitically, nonaligned and without
profit in cooperation with our fellow Finns at the
Tanzania Volunteers in the city of Moshi.

Scar treatment
Surgical aftercare
Pressure garments are used to prevent and manage
hypertrophic scars and keloids. The pressure garment
declines the scar and accelerates the maturation of it.
Pressure garments are widely accepted, primary treatment
for treating the scarring due to burns. The pressure
treatment has been shown to thin the dermis. The pressure
generated minimizes tissue edema and the division of cells.
The scar declines and the collagen realigns according to
epidermis. Additional scar treatment products can be used
to boost the effects of pressure treatment. The pressure is
evenly distributed throughout the garment.
Compression treatments are used in the aftercare of several
surgeries to remove and prevent swelling, bruising and
alleviate the pain in the operated area. The compression
treatment supports rehabilitation by helping to regain
mobility. Compression garments are used in the aftercare of
plastic surgeries to ensure the attachment of the operated
tissue.
LYMED® can manufacture custom-made garments to each
body part regardless of the size of the injury. Effects of
pressure treatment in scar managing:

Edema treatment
In edema treatment the pressure is generated so that it
gives a gradual compression. The strongest support will be
in the extremities, gradually decreasing towards the
mid-section. These garments are called compression
garments. Compression treatment is the removal or
prevention of edema with the use of these garments.
Compression treatment can be used in every pressure class
from A to IV. Compression treatment is needed when the
person has venous insufficiency, lymphatic edema, venous
ulcers, swelling caused by injuries or operations. Swelling
is caused by the intercellular accumulated fluid. The reason
might be insufficiencies in the lymphatic system or surface
veins or tissue damage. Compression garments support the
natural lymphatic circulation of the body.
Venous insufficiency causing swelling of the feet is
generated by the slowed blood flow back from the lower
extremities whilst venous pressure climbs higher causing
fluids to seep through from capillary veins to the tissues.
Swelling arises when the capacity of the lymphatic system
cannot remove the accumulated fluid. The most common
signs of the venous insufficiency are varicose veins which
every third of the women have. Venous insufficiency can
develop without visible changes or the swelling is present
only at evenings.
In advanced venous insufficiency the tissue metabolism
weakens and causes, in addition to varicose veins, skin
lacerations, changes and inflammation. This damages the
lymphatic system and swelling becomes permanent and
even ulcers might appear. Prevention of swelling is
recommended to people doing a lot of sitting, standing or
traveling (trains, airplanes and cars). Prevention is crucial
also during pregnancy and after surgeries. Symptoms
caused by genetic factors can be delayed considerably with
preventive care.
The most common indications are liposuctions, breast
surgeries, facial and abdominal operations. The needed
products for these could be abdominal supports, liposuction
panties and facial supports.
Neurological, physiological and
occupational therapy
Pressure garments are also used to assist neurological,
physiological and occupational therapy. The pressure is
mild and consistent. The function of the Sense™ garment is
based on enhancing proprioseptics of the body, body
awareness and deep pressure input. In different disorders
of sensory integrations the feeling of constant pressure can
help to manage the pressure inputs and overcome the
feeling of irritation and malaise. This has a favorable effect
on the ability to concentrate and generalized feeling of ease.
Neuropathic pain is pain caused by damage or disease
affecting the somatosensory nervous system. Different
components of neuropathic pain vary for each patient and
each experienced pain. Patients with chronic pain ofter
suffer from sleep disorders, tiredness, mood swings, anxiety
and secondary muscular symptoms. Most patient
experience these when pain turns into chronic pain and
causes a sensory overload. Interim & Light pressure garment
acts as a so called stimulation treatment in pain
management.
There are several indications to use Sense garments. These
might include CP, autism, Erb’s palsy, scoliosis, strokes,
Parkinson’s and different kinds of chronic pain disorders. The

ORDERING
PRODUCT INFO
CONSTRUCTING PRESSURE WITH LYMED® GARMENTS
The pressure is formed in via the relation of the circumferences of the area that needs to be treated and the
garment itself. The pressure is calculated based on Laplace’s Law (a principle of physics that the tension on
the wall of a sphere is the product of the pressure times the radius of the chamber and the tension is inversely
related to the thickness of the wall). The calculatory pressure might not duplicate itself fully on the living
tissue due to the variation of it.
The pressure class is used to define the lowest and the highest pressures between which the real pressure will
fall. In custom-made products the pressure class can be more specifically defined compared to standard sized
products. This also allows the use of a greater pressure level more safely than in standard products. The real
pressure provided by the garment can be measured with a pressure monitor when the garment is in use.
The units used in pressure treatment are called mercury millimeters (mmHg). Lymed Skin™, Interim & Light™,
Post-operation™ and Sense™ are built with even pressure as per needed treatment. Lymed Compression™
products are constructed with a progressive compression. The compression created can be divided to four
compression classes (from A to IV). These compression classes are based on the European prestandard ENV
12718/2001. The pressure class is chosen based on the injury, diagnose or the area to be treated. In special
cases it is possible to have different pressure levels as well as a combination of progressive and even pressure.

LYMED® garments are manufactured and
designed with the patient’s needs in mind. Our

They can be used to enhance tissue metabolism,

Sense™garments are used in occupational and
neurological physiotherapy e.g. in cerebral palsy
(CP), autism, Erb’s palsy (both in children and
adults) and other neurological conditions.
The garments are applied for posture control
and tone management, improving the functional
skills and body awareness.
STANDARD SIZE
Zippers and velcros can be added to aid the
dressing. Pockets in different sizes and shapes
can be added for additional supports and splints.
Custom-made products are available for all body
parts.

LYMED SPORT™ SUPPORTING GARMENTS
Individually manufactured, sport specific techno-medical Lymed Sport™
supporting garment improves posture and position, body awareness and
muscle tone. By enhancing proprioseptics, the body awareness and muscle
tone increases. This is an advantage in muscle and movement control. Lymed
Sport™ medical garment can correct postural problems, influence muscle
balance and the functioning of the fascias. Controlled medical compression
supports the muscle from the outside thus increasing performance. The
external support also prevents cramps and injuries.
Lymed Sport™ supporting garment is very beneficial in recovery. It improves
metabolism in the musculature and reduces swelling in tissues – recovery
after performance is faster.

LYMED ANIMAL™GARMENTS
Lymed Animal™ garments are built with the same principles as all other techno-medical Lymed Sense™ garments. Supporting
garments can be constructed either with steady even pressure or with progressive pressure, depending on the application of the
garment. Products with a mild, even and medically controlled pressure, can be used to calm the animal, to treat different
neurological disorders and affect the ability to re-focus and self-appease. Lymed Animal™ products can be used e.g. in treating
