FIVE FACTS ABOUT DUBBO
Dubbo’s past, present and future is a matrix of
firsts, lasts and one-offs. The village that once
became a town that eventually became a large
regional City has many unique stories to tell.
1. Dubbo is the Aboriginal word for Red Earth
and was founded in 1849.
Dubbo is a thriving and dynamic regional City that is home to
over 40,000 smiling faces and we are pleased to welcome one
more... you!
Your new City is a place where cattle farms and cafes are within
minutes of each other; where the people are relaxed, friendly and
welcoming and they really mean it when they ask how you are.
Servicing a catchment population of 120,000 people, Dubbo
offers a breadth of high quality health, education, retail and
professional services to meet all your needs.
A quality lifestyle, affordable housing, career opportunities and
education options combine to make Dubbo a great place to live.
Welcome to your new City!
The Tubba-Gah Mayiny of the Wiradjuri Nation are
Dubbo’s traditional custodians.
2. The Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets is the
largest saleyards in the nation with more than
1.59 million sheep and 271,000 cattle sold at
the facility in 2013/14.
3. Dubbo is known as the solar capital of NSW,
with over one quarter of all households in the
City generating their own power through
solar panels.
4. Dubbo sources its water from Burrendong Dam,
which holds 3.5 times the volume of water as
Sydney Harbour.
5. Dubbo’s villages of Ballimore, Brocklehurst,
Eumungerie, Mogriguy, Rawsonville, Toongi
and Wongarbon provide residents with a
lifestyle choice.

COUNCIL SERVICES
RATES AND CHARGES
HORTICULTURAL SERVICES
How are my rates calculated?
Council determines the combination of rates, charges, fees
and pricing policies needed to fund the services it provides to
the community. This is called a revenue policy. The revenue
policy contains a rating structure that determines which
rates and charges you have to pay and how they will be
calculated. You can view the Revenue Policy at
dubbo.nsw.gov.au/YourCouncil/rates-fees-charges.html
Who do I contact if a tree needs to be maintained on my
street or a park needs to be mowed?
Council protects and maintains more than 14,500 street
trees in the Dubbo urban area and manages 821 hectares of
parkland throughout Dubbo. If you have a request for mowing,
planting, pruning or removal of trees on Council lands contact
Council’s Customer Service Centre (02) 6801 4000. The area

service. For water pressure, breaks and repairs call Council’s
Customer Service Centre (02) 6801 4000. Residents will be
connected to Council’s pager service contractor. The operator

address so as to expedite dispatch of a service crew as soon
as possible.
