The Cave du Roi Dagobert was born in the bleak post-war period of 1952. 60 years
on, it is proud of the journey it has accomplished. With originally just 70 hectares of
surface under vine, the cooperative now counts almost 1000 hectares of vines. They
are nurtured by the cooperative's 250 member winemakers originating from around
20
communes
situated
between
Molsheim
and
Marlenheim.
The Cave du Roi Dagobert is now a key figure in Alsatian wine production. Thanks
to hard work and commitment from its winemakers, the winery has built a solid reputation for professionalism and quality. The name 'Dagobert' originates from the winery's geographical position which borders the former estate of the Merovingian palace in Kirchheim that welcomed the famous King Dagobert II and his court in the VII
century. The first written reference to vines in Alsace dates back to this same period.
The Dagobert estate was run by 4 royal farms located at the 4 cardinal points of the
palace. The 4 villages still bear their names to this day: Osthoffen in the East,
Westhoffen in the West, Nordheim in the North and Soultz in the South. These farms
supplied their wines to the Royal Palace of Dagobert II.

Throughout the Middle Ages, our terroir's wines graced the best tables in Strasbourg
as well as much further afield in Northern Europe. Thanks to the Rhine river corridor,
this thriving and heavily-taxed trade contributed significantly to financing the construction
of
the
Strasbourg
cathedral.
The winemakers at the Cave du Roi Dagobert endeavour to conserve the winery's
fascinating history and safeguard its legacy through sustainable and respectable
winemaking practices that value both the environment and our terroirs.

Even Patricia Schulz, author of the famous “1000 place to see before you die”, mentions Maison Kammerzell in her book as one of the most beautiful brasserie in the
world.
Maison Kammerzell is a must-see situated on the Place de la Cathedral in Strasbourg,
in the centre of what is called the Heart of Europe. Strasbourg is proud to present
Maison Kammerzell as one of its most charming building, an authentic and traditional symbol of the city’s age-old values. The original architecture of the building,
somewhat come straight out of a fairy tale, is a great example of the region’s traditional artistic past. Wooden sculptures, frescoes, spiral staircases and view angles are
just some of the details that reveal the richness of the past of this monument.
The late Gothic foundations date back to 1427. Later on in 1467 and 1589, three
upper floors of timber paneling were added, increasing the originality of Maison
Kammerzell. The rich decoration on the façade, both secular and sacred, was inspired
by the Renaissance humanistic ideal mixing Roman antiquity with the middle ages.
The 75 bottle bottom stained glass windows give an extraordinary lighting to the
rooms.




Visit of the Historical Wine Cellar of the Strasbourg Civil Hospices
This wine cave situated in the medieval basements of city hospital was founded in 1395 and it
stands for one of the best proof of rich Strasbourg history. It also represents a close relationship
between the wine and health as the wines or the vineyards were donated during centuries by the
patients as a form of payment for a quality medical service.
The cave was newly renovated in 1994, and today, it is a home of a specific wine museum
featuring more than 40 ancient barrels (the largest of them can hold up to 26080 hectoliters of
wine), a wine press dating from beginning of the 17th century and a barrel that is still filled
with the wine from the year 1472. This extraordinary wine that is also one of the oldest wines
in the world, was served only three times - first tasting was held for the Swiss delegation in
1576, the second one was inspired by the renovation of the city Hospital in 1716 and the last
persons who had tasted this wine were the liberators of Strasbourg led by general Leclerc in
1944.
Today, this 1200m2 wine cellar is the home of closely elected Alsatian wines which are given a
permission to mature in its barrels. After a certain period of maturing, these wines are bottled
on the spot, which underlines their freshness and quality.



CHEZ YVONNE
In 1873 in Strasbourg, in the historic heart of the city, close to the cathedral, Eugène
Jacquemet created "S’Burjerstuewel", place which welcome high society member of Strasbourg. Eugène Jacquemet had kept her Winstub for nearly 40 years. There were different
owners until 1956, date at the time Yvonne Haller bought the place “S'BURJERSTUEWEL”.
Then for regular customers, S'BURJERSTUEWEL becomes to be more well-known as “Chez
Yvonne”.
LE TIRE-BOUCHON
Le Tire-Bouchon is one of the stand-out winstubs in Strasbourg’s gastronomic landscape. Even
its decorated façade draws the eye. When you enter Le Tire-Bouchon, the various rooms,
alcoves and quiet corners can offer that special table you were looking for. Moreover, several
rooms of varying sizes can provide the perfect setting for your functions in small or larger
groups in an atmosphere of considerable privacy.


