Dear Seminar Attendees,
On behalf of the Bureau on International Osteopathic Medical Education & Affairs (BIOMEA), welcome
to California! This marks the 14th year BIOMEA has hosted the International Seminar at the AOA’s
Osteopathic Medical Conference & Exposition (OMED) and we are pleased to present it once again, here
in San Diego.
This year’s Seminar, “Osteopathic Medicine: Hands-on Care Worldwide,” has been approved for 6.5 hours of
1-A CME and features speakers providing expert information on global osteopathic health issues,
including the future of international medical education; an update on the state of osteopathic medicine
in Sichuan, China and Yucatan, Mexico; the effectiveness of global health cultural competency
simulations; delivering health care as a mission director through DOCARE International; information
on Korean Medicine; and ends the day with a group discussion on how U.S. osteopathic medicine
serves the underserved around the world.
We also continue to highlight and support our osteopathic medical students’ international work through
our annual Poster Competition, held in conjunction with the Student Osteopathic Medical
Association (SOMA). This year’s poster competition saw thirty-one entries; in addition we also received
seven non-competition abstracts as part of the Poster Session. The abstract authors were invited to bring
their posters to be displayed during the Seminar. Please be sure to take some time during the breaks to
look at all the posters.
We would like to once again thank SOMA for their contributions to this year’s Seminar.
Thank you all for being here at the San Diego Convention Center, we look forward to another successful
Seminar!
