West Valley Star Business Review
There’s Always a Solution with Neil’s Garage
Cabinets
by Pamela Holechek
Great skill cannot
be hidden. Invariably,
someone will talk.
Neil Hague’s carpentry
talents
became
a
topic
among
Sun
City residents, mainly
because homeowners
believed he could do
the job.
“No one in the state of
Arizona, at least
at that time, was
building garage
cabinets.
He
kept
getting
requests,” says
Van Gallegly of
his father, “and
since there was
no one doing
that, he saw
it as a great
opportunity.”
In little time, Neil went
from a sole handyman
to the leader of a fullfledged,
successful
company, despite his
few years of elementary
education.
Today,
the crew still uses his
system for making cuts
and applying the detail
trim.
The decision to focus
on the finer details of
storage cabinetry was
blueprinted 41 years
ago. From there, Neil
built the warehouse
in 1982 to house his
current manufacturing
facility. When he retired
in the 1990’s (one does
not just immediately step
away), Neil chose his top
employee to continue
his namesake company
– his son Van. Now,
Van’s go-to person is his
son, Loren,
who is the
Operations
Manager.
Just as his
grandfather
and father, he
can perform
every aspect
of
the
business.
“There are
no middlemen in our
company.
We don’t
sub-contract out any
part of our job,” says
Van, who now employs
11 installers.
“Every
person you meet from
our
company
gets
a paycheck weekly
from Neil’s Garage
Cabinets.”
For three generations,
nephews,
cousins,
wives, and relatives of
relatives have helped
continue the philosophy
of giving clients the
best product at the best
price, without hidden
fees. And, Neil’s has
continually
offered
the
advantages
of
maintaining longevity,
accepting
custom
projects, building units on
site, providing a 10-year
guarantee on materials,

lifetime warranty on
their
craftmanship—
which is huge for a
small business. These
elements,
assuredly,
contributed
to
the
development of their
great reputation.
Soon,
customers’
needs for organization
spread beyond the
garage. They needed
to bring order and added
space to such areas as
man caves and craft
rooms, even to barns
and airplane hangars,
which
were
easily
handled by staff.
During the contracting
of each job, the team
adheres to an adage
of measure twice, cut
once, beginning at the
free-estimate
stage.
Then, after a design
takes shape, grain color
and shelf choices are
made. Curiously, who
makes the majority of
these decisions, men or
women?
“Women choose the
color nearly 100 percent
of the time,” Van
admits. “The cabinets
do become part of your
home, so the wife gets
the say as to which
color.”
