Matfen Hall is an impressive early 19th century country house set in
the heart of some of Northumberland's most beautiful countryside.
Between 1997 and 1999, my wife, Anna, and I restored our ancestral
home to create a venue for golf and leisure breaks, conferences, dining,
spa, and weddings.
The Hall still retains much of the original character intended by its
creator, my great great grandfather, Sir Edward Blackett, the 6th Baronet.
It overlooks a classic parkland landscape with panoramic views of the
27 hole golf course. The Blacketts have been at Matfen since the early
1700s and we continue to manage the surrounding estate’s farmland,
woodland and residential properties.
My family and our ancestors have shaped and loved Matfen over the
centuries. I do hope you will visit Matfen to experience and enjoy it
yourself.

Luxurious accommodation
Matfen Hall Hotel offers elegant accommodation in the Northumberland countryside.
All fifty three bedrooms are finished to exacting standards, each offering modern facilities
with traditional opulence.
Principal and Premier rooms are the perfect place to spend a special night. These rooms
are in the original part of the Hall with a lovely view of the garden or golf course. Two
of these rooms feature a traditional four-poster bed and all have a seating area and
luxurious bathrooms.

No stay is complete without a visit to the award-winning Library Restaurant where our
Head Chef uses only the freshest ingredients from the estate for both traditional and
contemporary dishes. Sunday lunches are also served in the Restaurant. Reservations
are essential.

Perfect for special occasions or if you just simply want to escape life’s everyday
stresses. It’s not only our spacious and candlelit treatment rooms that make our Spa
so special. The award-winning treatment menu offers experiences like no other and
with our duet treatment suite, you have the opportunity to experience indulgence with

Wedding celebrations
Unique to Matfen Hall is the stunning Great Hall - this magnificent venue with its
soaring stained glass window and private entrance is a romantic setting for your
ceremony. The historic Terrace Rooms create a grand atmosphere for your wedding
breakfast and our extensive Vault Bar is a stylish space to host your party celebrations
in private.
Our dedicated Wedding Co-Ordinator is here to help with the arrangements. We
understand the importance of this very special day and want to ensure that this is
truly an occasion to remember.

Matfen Hall Golf Club
Sympathetically laid out on a classic parkland, the 27 hole, 6700 yard course
incorporates challenging water features and unique obstacles - an enjoyable
challenge for golfers of all abilities. Alternatively, the high quality nine hole par
three course is ideal for the less experienced player.
Facilities include; driving range, short game practice area, two practice putting
greens and the Keepers Lodge - a stylish and comfortable ‘19th hole’ serving
food and beverages everyday.

Business and conferences
From private board meetings to conference events and product launches, Matfen
Hall is a perfect country venue, yet situated close to Newcastle City. Our dedicated,
air conditioned, business suites are furnished to an exceptionally high standard
with projector and complimentary Wi-Fi.
With a wide range of day conference and 24 hour residential packages to choose
from, Matfen Hall is a superb venue in which to do business. Team building days,
outdoor pursuits, a round of golf and use of the spa facilities can also be arranged.
