July 19-20 - 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Gospel this Sunday reminds us that sin and virtue co-exist
in our world. How do we sow seeds of virtue and nurture them
in ourselves and others? We do it through our actions: love and
forgiveness rather than anger and retribution; peace rather than
violence; sharing rather than hoarding. One great need is to help
those coming out of jails and prisons to re-enter society. How
can your parish help our sisters and brothers grow in virtue?

Religious Education Registrations - If your child(ren) participated in our Religious Education Program this past year, you can
come by or call the office and register for next year at any time. If your
child(ren) did not participate in the Religious Education Program and
you would like to register, please mark your calendars now! We will
have open registration in Deane Hall (Parish Activity Center), for all
parishioners beginning the first Sunday of August after all the morning
masses. you must be registered and participating in the parish
to register for religious education!

Reconciliation & First Communion Preparation - Traditionally children celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) and
First Communion in the second grade. For their preparation, children
attend Religious Education for two years (1st grade & 2nd grade).
The first year is traditionally 1st grade and the second, 2nd grade, is
continued preparation for the sacraments and the celebration. Older
children who have not celebrated the sacraments and need to prepare
participate in the RCIA for Children Program. Register for Religious
Education to get your child ready to celebrate the sacraments.
Reconciliación y Preparación de Primera Comunión - los niños
celebran tradicionalmente el Sacramento de la Reconciliación (Primera Confesión) y la Primera Comunión en el segundo grado. Para su
preparación, los niños atienden Educación Religiosa por dos años (1r
grado y 2do grado). El primer año es tradicionalmente del 1r grado y
el segundo, 2do grado, es preparación continua para los sacramentos y

RELIGIOUS ED (K-12TH GRADES)
Confirmation - A minimum of two years, traditionally 8th grade
and 9th grade, of formal religious education in a parish precedes the
Confirmation Preparation Program at Santa Cruz. Students who attend
their 8th and 9th grade years will enter into the Confirmation Preparation
Program in their 10th grade year. If a student did not attend 8th grade, the
DRE / High School RE Coordinator will work with parents to place the
child in appropriate classes. These guidelines are in accordance with
the Diocese of Austin. Register for Religious Education to get your
child ready to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation.

Celebrate Life Rally
Saturday, July 26: Santa Cruz youth will be attending the Celebrate
Life Rally in Blanco, TX. This is the culmination of July’s theme,
Culture of Life, and a great chance to learn about pro-life and hang out
with other high school youth groups. The cost is $30. We will take the

We had a busy week at school this past week as parents and
students came by to select their uniform pieces from various
vendors. Then, Ms. Culp began her three week “Get Ready for
1st Grade” class which will be held every morning until noon.
Teachers are back to school in two weeks now, starting on
August 4th. They will spend seven days in workshops and meeting preparing themselves and their classrooms for the new school
year. This year, the diocese is kicking off the new school year with
a Diocesan All School Mass on Monday, August 11th which will
be followed by a luncheon and guest speaker. Bishop Joe will
be our celebrant along with other Catholic school pastors. The
Mass will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. What
a wonderful way to begin the year, coming together spiritually as
a Catholic School community of educators.
We are still enrolling for the new year. Please call the school
for more information or to set up a tour. Remember, our school
year begins on August 13th!

Tuvimos una semana muy ocupada en la escuela esta semana ya que
los padres y los alumnos vinieron a seleccionar sus uniformes de varios
proveedores. Luego, la Sra. Culp comenzó su clase “Prepárate para el 1er
Grado” que se llevará a cabo cada mañana hasta el mediodía por tres semanas.
Los maestros regresaran a la escuela en dos semanas, empezando el 4 de
agosto. Pasarán siete días en talleres y reuniones preparándose ellos mismos
y sus salones de clase para el nuevo año escolar. Este año, la Diócesis está
lanzando el nuevo año escolar con una Misa Escolar Diocesana el lunes,
11 de agosto, seguida por una comida y un presentante invitado. El Obispo
Vásquez será el celebrante junto con otros párrocos de escuelas Católicas.
La Misa se celebrará en la Iglesia Católica de San Vicente De Paul. Esta es
una manera maravillosa para comenzar el año, uniéndonos espiritualmente
como una comunidad de educadores de Escuelas Católicas.
Todavía estamos inscribiendo para el año escolar nuevo. Por favor llame
a la escuela para obtener más información o para programar una visita.

ATTENTION FIESTA 2014
BOOTH VENDORS
There are plans being made to have a garage sale fundraiser for vendors
having a booth at this year’s Holy Cross Fiesta. The purpose of the
garage sale will be to have the vendor raise monies to fund the booth
without having to have monies donated for items needed to manage
the booth. The garage sale will be limited to vendors who have committed to have a booth for the Fiesta. Garage sale will be Saturday,
July 26th, on the west side parking lot of the Church (area in front of

CHOIRS TO TAKE
THIS MONTH OFF
The Music Ministry will be taking a muchneeded rest during the month of July. The
11AM Liturgical Choir, and the 8:30 AM
Spanish Choir will not be singing at their
Masses during July in order to recharge their
batteries for the fall season. We will continue
to have accompaniment and a cantor at each
Mass until the choirs return to their liturgical
ministry. We take this opportunity to thank
the Music Ministry for their assistance with
celebrating our Sunday liturgies, and we look
forward to their return in August. Happy summer to all!

ATENCIÓN VENDEDORES
EN LA FIESTA PARROQUIAL 2014
Existen planes para tener una venta de garaje para recaudar fondos
por los vendedores que piensan tener un puesto en la Fiesta de Santa
Cruz este año. El propósito de la venta de garaje es la de tener el
dinero necesario para financiar el puesto sin tener la necesidad de
disponer de fondos donados para comprar artículos que se necesiten
en la administración del puesto. La venta de garaje se limitará a los
vendedores que se han comprometido a tener un puesto en la Fiesta
anual. La venta de garaje se llevará a cabo el sábado, 26 de julio, en
el estacionamiento del lado oeste de la iglesia (área enfrente a la

Help Make a Difference for the Poor in Peru
More than 52 years ago, in response to Pope John XXIII’s call to religious communities of
women, 20 Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet were sent to Peru where they established missions
throughout the country. For all these years. Young Peruvian women have joined the Sisters of
St. Joseph and now serve in parishes, schools, and a large prison on the outskirts of Lima and
in poverty-stricken neighborhood communities. On the weekend of July 19-20. Sister Eleanor
Ortega, a Sister of St. Joseph will be here in our parish to talk about the missions in Peru. We ask
for your prayers for the Sisters of St. Joseph and ask for your generosity in your contributions
for the work of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Peru. Recently, three Sisters of St. Joseph arrived
at St. Rose of Lima Parish located in the Amazon Jungle. At the parish, funds are needed to
provide materials for women to attend workshops in cooking, sewing, baking, crafts, etc. as
well as supplies for programs for children and youth. Women who attend these free workshops
will gain skills that will help them get jobs so that they can support their families. Can you
help enable these women?
Ayuden Hacer una Diferencia entre los Pobres de Perú
Hace más de 52 años, en respuesta a la llamada del Papa Juan XXIII a las comunidades de
religiosas para ayudar en América Latina, 20 Hermanas de San José de Carondelet se mandaron
a Perú donde establecieron misiones. Por todos estos años, mujeres Peruvianas se han ingresado
en la congregación de las Hermanas de San José y ahora sirven en parroquias, escuelas, en una
gran prisión en Lima y también en vecindades donde hay mucha pobreza. El fin de semana del
19 y 20 de julio, la Hermana Eleanor Ortega, una Hermana de San José estará aquí en nuestra
parroquia para hablar de las misiones en Perú. Pedimos por sus oraciones y su generosidad en
sus contribuciones para el trabajo de las Hermanas de San José. En marzo 2014, tres Hermanas
de San José llegaron a la parroquia de Santa Rosa que está en la selva del Amazon. Mujeres
pueden asistir talleres gratis en cocina, costura, artes, etc. Pero muchas mujeres no pueden
asistir los talleres por falta de dinero para conseguir los materiales. Con las habilidades que
aprenden en los talleres, las mujeres pueden conseguir trabajos para que puedan mantener a
sus familias. Además se necesitan útiles para los programas de niños y la juventud. Se pide por
su ayuda para estas mujeres, niños y jóvenes.

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Bingo Report (07/13/14) - Our bingo games last Sunday attracted
a very good crowd of 119 players who took home $2,024.00 in
prizes won. The bingo games netted a profit of $1,002.55 and our
concessions took in $302.05 for a total income of $1,304.60. A thank
you to the following KC’s who operated the bingo games: Johnny
Rodriguez, Baldemar Duarte, Dominic Salinas, James Feddelar, Eric
Martinez, Lee Verver, Ronnie Ojeda and Bob Buras. We also thank
our concession crew consisting of: Joe & Josie Sifuentes, Vicky
Riojas, Evangelina Ginn, and Mike Saucedo. A special thank you
goes out to Evangelina Ginn, Lucille Owens and the KC Ladies for
providing the delicious desserts for our players to enjoy. Of course,
we are always grateful for the patronage and support from our regular
players and parishioners. The jackpot number will be 59 numbers
this week. See you Sunday at 2:00 PM in Father Joseph Deane Hall.

Informe de Bingo (07/13/14) - Nuestros juegos de bingo el domingo pasado
