Hurghada First International Children Theatre
Hurghada’s 1st International Children's Theatre Festival
The civil society associations, represented by "Coral Beach Rotana Resort Hurghada", in
cooperation with “Maniton Foundation for Children's Theatre", organized and sponsored
the Hurghada’s 1st International Children's Theatre Festival that will be held on 20-24th
March 2013.
The festival is considered a societal initiative that aims to achieve many of the noble goals
that serve the interests of our beloved country as well as restoring and expanding the
pioneering role of Egypt in the field of Arts, especially the development of children's
theatre in Egypt so that it goes in parallel, technically and artistically, with international
children theatres. The festival is intended to serve as a small umbrella for children's theatre
artists in Egypt. Therefore, the civil society institutions are keen on supporting the Egyptian
Children Theatre teams , especially when it comes to their participation in international
festivals, to ensure they make best use of this opportunity in a way that gives them proper
opportunity to interact technically and culturally with international peers in order to create
a kind of cultural exchange among the different civilizations which will have a great
impact on the enrichment of the Egyptian children's theater, and which, in turn, will reflect
positively on the advancement of society as a whole based on our firm belief that building a
strong nation begins with building a strong culture for the child who is considered the
nucleus of the society. The festival aims to focus on four fundamental rights in order to
support, activate, and shed more light on their importance and essential role in building the
society. Those four rights are:
•
•
•
•
The Right of the Child
The Right of Women
The Right of Mother
The Right of the Disabled

Due to the fact that Mother’s Day happens to be celebrated during the period of the
Festival, we have prepared a special program we called "Queen Bee”, through which four
mothers will lay the basis for these four rights by planting four gardens within Coral Beach
Rotana Resort Hurghada with the participation of the audience where each garden
represents one of these fundamental rights.
The festival is considered a cultural forum for many of the children theatre groups in the
world. Once invited, the international children's theatre groups immediately accepted our
invitation to participate in the festival. The Egyptian theatre groups were not less
enthusiastic than international peers as they are keen to participate and show their work and
creativity in front of other international theatre groups. It’s noteworthy that our invitation to
Saudi Arabia was warmly welcomed by Dr. Abdullah Al Abdul Mohsen – the pioneer of
the children's theatre in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Area.
The participating groups are:

It should also be noted that this newborn festival, which Coral Beach Rotana Resort
Hurghada has the honor to organize, sponsor and host its activities, is considered a message
from the Egyptian Child to the whole world assuring that Egypt will always be the land and
cradle of peace and the fruitful tree of its great civilization will continue to produce creative
works in the fields of art, literature, music, theater, poetry, songs, etc. Egypt will never
cease from playing its leading and creative role in participation with her fans and creative
peers from all over the world, who accepted our invitation to show their art and creativity
to the children of Egypt as well as other children from all over the world. It’s not surprising
that this happens on the land of Hurghada: "the land of the Pharaonic Child ‘Hur’ as it is
the city of the Child since thousands of years; that’s why it is named ‘Hurghada’ which
mean in Hieroglyphic Language the “Hur Road”
It is noteworthy that the first day of the festival, March 20th, coincides with the
"International Day for the Children's Theatre," where the whole world celebrates this event
since 2002 when The International Association of Theaters for Children and Young People
"ASSITEJ" launched the celebration on that day.

Finally, we would like to take the opportunity to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation
to all the participants in the festivals from foreign teams, Egyptian teams, ladies and
gentlemen, movie stars, critics, journalists and media professionals who will attend and
participate in the activities of this festival and we shouldn’t forget to express our deep
thanks and gratitude to Ms. Suhair Abdul Qadir who has spared no effort to provide us with
all kinds of support for the success of this festival.
