Kill Them With Color
By: Brittany Buechler
With the dance
team starting their 20122013 season, the girls are
practicing four times a
week. Captains this year
are Mady Grundhoefer,
Megan Grundhoefer, Andi
Kempf, Chloe Dilger, Tori
Lange, and Erin Altman.
The dance team has wonderful leadership to help
them through the season.
Last year at state, the dancers got 1st in kick, 3rd in hip
hop, and 4th in pom. With
this great record, the girls
are going to have to work
very hard to beat it. With
their awesome coach, Denise Heilers, they should not
have too much trouble.
The dancers have a wonderful support system of
their family and friends.
It’s easy to see their fans
enjoy watching them perform. With 20 dancers on
the team, you would figure
it to be hard for them all to
get along but as Tori Lange
states, “We’re all one big
happy family!” I asked her
if it would be difficult
learning all those different
dances and she said, “It is
at first, but they all just
come to you and learning
and knowing the dances
becomes fun and easy.”
Even though they
take their kick, hip hop,
and pom routines to state,
their kick routine is naturally most of the dancers’
favorite routine considering they got first in state
with it three years in a row
now. Most of the girls’ favorite part of the season is
the competition part. They
also enjoy performing at
football games and basketball games so they can
showcase their skills in
front of people who normally wouldn’t see them.
Their biggest rivalries at
competitions are
Floyd Central,
Crown Point, and
Northrop. It takes
the dancers typically
15 to 20 minutes to
stretch each practice
because without
their stretches the
dancers wouldn’t be
as flexible as they are
today but other than
that, they spend their entire practice time perfecting their all their different
routines.
The dance team is
known for their impact on
the community. The girls
all come together to do
good deeds for those who
appreciate it. The ladies
dance at local nursing
homes in Jasper like
Brookside and St. Charles
to entertain the elderly.
They also dance at the
town wide Christmas tree
lighting. The dancers are
very sympathetic towards
the needy by raising money
and collecting food for
them. We are lucky to
have such a valued organization in our town. Make
sure to come support the
Forest Park dance team
January 26 at Bloomington

Mystery Baby
By: Cody Tempel
Who can the mystery
baby be? Here are some hints
that might be of some sustenance.
This person can be
counted as quite an average student academically. He/she is
not tall nor very short. He/ she
is of about average height. The
hair color, usually brown, is
short but sometimes long. This
narrows just a few people form
this school. Who is this person?
He/she was born at the Huntingburg hospital. Is this a man
or a lady? Whatever gender he/
she is, he/she has a brother and
a dog.
He/she plays many
sports in the fall and spring, but
not in the winter. He/she has
two sectional titles under his/
her belt. What does his/her appearance look like? This person
happens to be Caucasian. On
the other hand, the color of his/
her eyes is brown. Don’t look
into them for too long or you will
become frightened. If you happen to look deep into them prepare yourself for a chilling sensation down your spine. His/her
teeth are definitely white and
perfectly aligned. His/ her eye
brow is brown, and it. Here is a
huge hint on discovering this
unknown person, this soul is
masculine. You can tell by his/
her hair. He/she is positively
not a woman. The mystery baby
exists as one cool guy. Most
days he can be seen wearing
usual basketball shorts and a
cool t-shirt. Other days he gets
a little dressier. Here is some
history on this month’s mystery
baby. He has partially torn his
meniscus. He has lettered in
sports. In his earlier stages of
sports he was a good athlete.
To this day he still is a respectable athlete. This man lives in
Ferdinand with his parents and
his dog. The dog he owns is a
little fur ball. Outside of his
house, there is always one vehicle in the driveway or the side
of the street. His place of residency consists of a main floor,
abasement, and garage. Near
the back of the house there is
shed. Now that you know all
that you need to know, who do
you think this month’s mystery
baby is? It can be almost any
male figure. You can’t always
get what you want. With the
help of these hints, there is no
doubt in my mind that you can
guess who this man is! Good
luck on your journey to discover him!

Boys Basketball Preview
By: Bryce Bettag
When people think of
Forest Park athletics, they think
of the words strong, competitive, and successful. The boys’
basketball team is especially
known for this. Every year, people count on the basketball team
to play hard and win, and this
year’s team is working extra
hard to uphold this position.
Although it will be super tough
to do so, the Ranger men said,
“They will do anything in their
power to overcome the competition.”
Multiple graduates will
have to be replaced, including
Jake Meyer, Miles Leonard,
Lynk Kordes, Ben Braunecker,
and Noah Klem; the team said
they are doing great with what
they have. In my opinion, these
men will go far this year.
They’re equipped with a lot of athleticism, and most importantly,
heart. Austin Egloff said, “They
have been running the court really
well and will do just fine taking up
the huge responsibility that has
faced every Forest Park basketball
team in the previous years.” Hopefully, he is right! The team has
many other goals as well. Winning
at least 15 games and winning a
sectional title is another one.
The boys’ basketball team
spends a lot of time together. After
they are finished with practice,
they tend to head towards their
locker room. In there, they play
PlayStation; in addition, they eat
pizza, drink PowerAde that they
have in their mini fridge, and listen
to music.
Many young men are go-
ing to have to step it up this year. I
was in class with Joel Weyer the
other day, and I talked to him a
little bit. Joel is a returning junior
this year, and will be a huge asset
to the team. He’ll be running the
point guard position for this year’s
team. I asked Joel if he was prepared for the opening game, and
he said he was well-prepared.
Over the off season, Joel was outside practicing at least 3 times a
week. I couldn’t wait to see all his
effort go into play.
Like previous years, the
student section will be up to par.
We have many cheers stored up in
our heads and are just dying to
release them at this season’s first
game. Forest Park is widely
known for our spirit at sporting
events, and other schools just can’t
compete. They fear us! Our goal is
to get everybody involved this
year. Sitting is not an option, unless it is half time. Freshmen and
sophomores are the ones we are
trying to target to get involved. If
they, or anyone, do not participate
in cheers, they will be asked politely to leave. This basketball season should be a great one.

Featured Car
By: Katie Fischer
Andi Kempf is the
proud owner of this months
featured vehicle. Andi is a senior at Forest Park and owns a
2002 red Chevy Camaro. It has
a 3.8 L and is a v6. This special Camaro has her favorite, T
-tops. It is personalized with
her halo headlights and smoked
euro taillights. The tires that
her Camaro has are directional
BF Goodrich. This 2002 holds
101,000 miles on it, and costs
about $50 dollars to fill up.
Although this car is her baby,
she had one similar to it but it
got totaled in a rear-ending accident last year, one month after she received her license.
Her previous car was also a
Chevy Camaro but was a 1996
Camaro. It had 3.8 L and was
also a v6. This car of hers also
had T-tops. The only difficult
thing was instead of just painting the strip behind the T-tops,
the mirrors, and the grill shiny
black, Andi had to repaint the
whole front end, red, same as
the color as her one now. She
also had to repair the windshield. Her previous car’s cost
was 3,000 dollars without the
cost of the paint job and also the
repairing of her windshield. Her
newer 2002 Camaro only cost
$2,000 more at $5,000 without
having to repair anything. She
added all the other things on her
own terms not because of any
previous problems. She says
herself that she likes her car now
much better than her previous.
Another plus about this one is it
has an air ram hood, which her
other did not. You can catch her
riding around in her car anywhere from going to school,
work, HOSA, and dance practice. Of course she will also be
spending time with her friends.
If she could have any other vehicle in the future, it would be a
Chevy Silverado with a lift on it,
or a new Chevy Camaro; either
would work for her. During the
summer, Andi and her friends
enjoy taking a spin in her Camaro with
the T-tops out enjoying the summer
sun. Although those can’t come out in
the winter and she doesn’t like to take it
out on slick nights, she has her stepdads truck to drive for that too. Her and
her family all takes good care of their
vehicles and treasures them. Her Camaro is her baby and she loves to show
it off! She has every right to because it
is this month’s featured vehicle!

Book Review: Harry Potter
By: Kyle Lubbehusen
It’s an instant classic, a
story of how a young boy overcomes tragedy at the age of one,
when the evil Lord Voldemort
kills young Harry’s parents. He
broke into their house at night
and killed them with the dreaded killing curse, “Avada Kadava!” After Voldemort killed
Harry’s parents, he mysteriously
vanished never to been seen
again… so they thought. The
very beginning of the book, we
find young Harry in the cupboard under the stairs, getting
ready for his cousin’s birthday
party. Instantly, we see Harry
being mistreated and not cared
for well; however, an upside to
this is that they get to go to the
zoo and his uncle buys him lemon popsicles’. The crazy thing
that happened at the zoo,
though, was that Harry was talking to snakes, and he made a
glass wall vanish with his mind!
The book then goes into
letters flying into the Dursely
household all for Harry, and he
doesn’t get to see any because
his uncle took them all and ei-
ther burned them or even tore
them up. The letters were flying into the house so quickly
that the family was forced to
move out and go live somewhere far away, where the letters wouldn’t show up. They
were wrong.
The book later progresses into Harry becoming a
wizard and going to a new
school only for wizards, Hogwarts. On the way to the new
school, he meets a friend
named Ron, who happens to
be his best friend for the rest
of Harry’s life. At Hogwarts,
Harry meets a boy named
Draco and he tries to bring
Harry to the dark side or
Slytherin house but being the
smart kid that Harry is, he denied becoming his friend. He
stayed with the good side, the
Gryffindor house. In this
book, there are many surprises, and it is an action packed
thriller. I recommend this
book for anyone who is new
to the series and wants something great to read Harry Pot-
ter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a must
read. Get your own copy at your convenient Forest Park High School Library.

Teacher Spotlight
By: Lance Buechler
This month’s teacher that
gets to be in the spotlight
is Mr. Jacob Berg. On
August 23, 1976, he was
born in Walled Lake,
Michigan. Mr. Berg
teaches three subjects:
Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus,
and 7th grade Real World
Math. Jacob Berg is the
father of three children.
Jace Berg is his lone son
who is seven years old.
He has two daughters
named Jenna and Jessa
who are five and two respectively. June 7, 2003,
Mr. Berg married Camille
and they have been married for nine years. His
favorite restaurant is Los
Bravos, where he goes a
lot with his family and
friends. He likes to eat
steak and shrimp, which
he considers his favorite
food. Mr. Berg’s favorite
movie of all time is Brave
Heart. He says “he
watches it very often because it makes him feel
good.” When listening to
music, Jacob prefers listening to country. Everyone once in a while, he
will listen to different
genres, but majority country music is on his radio.
Mr. Berg’s favorite sports
are football and basketball. He played both in
high school, at Walled
Lake Central in Michigan. Taking his high
school experiences and
transferring them to Indiana, Mr. Berg coach’s
football here at Forest
Park. He has been a part
of the program for five
years. Now that his son
Jace is getting older, Jacob Berg has been getting more and more involved in the basketball
program. Besides being
around sports, he also
enjoys nature and outdoor activities. He likes
to go hunting, fishing,
and enjoys farming. In
his spare time when he is
not busy, he spends his
time with his wife and
children. He also likes
talking and spending
time with his friends and
neighbors. Mr. Berg has
always been a truck fan.
He drives a green Chevrolet Silverado. After
growing up in Michigan
and attending Michigan
Tech, Jacob Berg has
moved his location down to
southern Indiana. He really enjoys the area and feels
privileged to be able to
raise his family and live
here. Mr. Berg is a very
intelligent and bright individual. He graduated
Michigan Tech with an engineering degree. Jacob
has transferred what he
has learned to Indiana and
we are very grateful to have
him at forest Park. Mr.
Berg is always willing to
help students when they
need help, and will put in
the extra effort to make
every student’s intelligence
grow. We are very lucky to
have a special person like
Mr. Jacob Berg at Forest
Park Jr./Sr. High School.

Girls Basketball Review
By: Sam Russell
The Girls’ basketball team
season is underway, achieving their first two wins;
against the Perry Central
Commodores and the Loogootee Lions. After a close
win on November 15th
against the Commodores, the
Lady Rangers blew out the
Lady Lions 56-38. The Lady
Ranger’s escaped Thursday
with a narrow win after leading by double digits in the
first half. The lady Ranger’s
found a huge success behind
the arc. Draining eight three
pointers,
Ashley
Reckelhoff led the way with
four, while Kayla Smith added three, and Paige Englert
downed one herself. Starting
the fourth quarter, the Lady
Rangers had a narrow lead 50
-40. With two minutes to go,
the Lady Rangers trailed.
But, with some clutch free
throw shooting, the Lady
Rangers narrowly escape
with a 57-54 victory in the
hostile environment that Perry County brings. Kylie
Blessinger led the team with
17 points.
Their next game was
against the Loogootee Lions at
the dangerous Lion’s Den in
Loogootee. This was the eighth
consecutive year that the Lady
Ranger’s opened their season
with 2 wins. Kylie Blessinger
led the way for the Lady Rangers putting down 11 points (team
high) while Taylor Hopf scored
9, and Lydia Lange, Ashley
Reckelhoff and Kayla Smith all
adding eight apiece.
Mater Dei was next up
on the Lady Rangers’ four-game
road trip. Mater Dei is, once
again, Class A number one in
the state. The girls knew they
were up for a challenge. Kylie
Blessinger led the way with 12
points, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the Lady Rangers
fell to the Mater Dei Wildcats 72
-50. Ashley Reckelhoff added
9 points and Amanda Jacob
added 8.
A wrap up of their 4
game road trip comes to an
end, at Memorial Gym, or as
many like to call it Buechler
West,
against the Southridge
Raiders. After an intense
battle the Lady Rangers fell
to the Raiders 46-42. It was
a battle to the finish. The
Lady Rangers pulling within one point with under a
minute to go, but could not
hang on. Scoring was diversified between the perimeter play of Ashley Reckelhoff with a team high 14
points, who cashed in on
three 3-pointers, and inside
presences Lydia Lange who
added 11 points and eight
rebounds, and Kylie
Blessinger with nine points
and 12 rebounds. After
winning their first two
games, the Lady Rangers
hit a two game skid hoping
to turn it back into a W
against Gibson Southern on
November 30th. Good Luck
girls!

Elected Official Questions
By: Keisha Jackson
The election phase is finally
over for the 2012 election.
Which means no more nagging
campaign ads, late night debates, and news reports on the
latest thing or ideas the President nominees, Barack Obama
and Mitt Romney, had to help
make the U.S. a better country.
As everyone already knows,
Barack Obama won and has a
four year plan to bring back our
economy and get our country
back on track.
I asked around our school to
many different students to get
their perspective on how they
want our reelected President,
Barack Obama, and newly
elected Mike Pence, to do in
these next few years to get our
country back on track. Senior,
and new time voter, Jaci
Rhoderick said, “I would like it if
there was a bigger incline in
our economy to boost both
our confidence and to help
stimulate a growing world. “
Furthermore, Lance Buechler, a first time voter and well
-informed student on the
2012 election, said, “Thanks
to Mr. Brady Gunselmen informing us in government on
this year’s election, I think
the biggest issues in the
world today that I would like
to see changed is the gas
prices.” Gas prices, seems to
be the biggest issue that
teenagers and even many
adults want to see changed.
In addition, Lance said, “The
talk of the government taking away the right of gun usage scares me since I am a
hunter.” Madison Grundhoefer, a senior not able to vote this year but still
well informed on the election, responded to the question on what she wanted
to see Barack Obama and Mike Pence
do to help our country and even Indiana change and be better. “Well since I
am graduating this year, I would want
college and schooling to be more affordable, so I could get a better education at a reasonable price. Also, I think
our economy needs a boost too, so I
know I will have a job after college!”
These are just a few opinions from the
senior students around Forest Park on
the 2012 Election this year; however,
many people have been giving their
opinions on how the election turned
out. It turns out the main thing people
have concern about these next four
years is getting the economy back on
track.

IU Soccer

Indiana Soccer
Kyle Lubbehusen
The early power house
in all of college soccer winning
a total of 7 National Titles is
IU. It seemed like nobody
would touch it until St. Louis
University won 10 National
Titles, an untouchable feat.
This past weekend the 16th
ranked Hoosiers took to the
pitch with one simple thought
in mind; the quest for eight,
simply meaning that they were
going to get their eighth national soccer title in eight years.
It’s kind of a coincidence that
winning the title took place in
the eighth year of the drought.
Throughout the tournament, the
Hoosiers faced a lot of diversity by playing against many
higher ranked teams.
The first team that
Indiana played in the tournament was a highly skilled, unranked, Xavier
team but that
did not faze
them, putting
up one goal
against the 16th ranked Hoosiers. In the end, however, the
Hoosiers were able to pull
away and come out of the
second round, with the help of
a first round by, with a handily win of four to one. The
Hoosiers then were in the
third round playing the number one ranked Notre Dame.
The Hoosiers were the big
time under dogs in this game
and nobody had picked them
to win this game. The Hoosiers, on the other hand, had
history in the making. They
were giving it their all the
entire game until the last
whistle and that ended up not
being enough for the resurgent
Hoosiers. With the game tied
going into overtime, the score
notched at one to one late into
overtime. The Hoosiers were
able to take down the Number
one ranked Fighting Irish in a
great overtime thriller, with a
scorer of two to one.
Finally the Hoosiers
were in the Quarterfinals playing the defending champions,
ranked number nine, the North
Carolina Tar Heels; however,
the Indiana squad, once again,
refused to lose with a one to
zero win over the defending
national champions. Now, the
Indiana squad really meant
business by entering the Final
Four, playing number 12
Creighton, who looked like a
clear favorite to win the game.
Once again, the Hoosiers won
by only a slim margin of one to
nothing, and they were off to
the National championship,
playing Number three
Georgetown. It was their first
time appearing in the national
championship.
Indiana had something
to prove in this National Championship match, controlling the
tempo the entire game and finally, in the late second half,
the Hoosiers prayers were answered of winning a National
title were on the shoulders of

Christmas Tree Lighting
By: Lance Buechler
As Christmas is coming up here in a few days,
Ferdinand always gets into
the Christmas spirit by lighting the town Christmas Tree
on Main Street in Ferdinand.
This year, the three was lit on
Friday, November 30. Many
residents of the Ferdinand
Township come out and gather around on Main Street outside the Wollenmann House.
There was hot chocolate,
cookies, and snacks for people to enjoy as they watch the
lighting of the tree. The Forest Park High School Dance
Team under the direction of
Denise Heilers, performed to
the town on the street before
the lighting. They did dance
routines and mingled
throughout the crowd to get
people into the Christmas
spirit. Santa Claus also was
present at the lighting. Many
parents brought their kids to
the lighting and they sat on Santa’s lap. They told him what they
want for Christmas and what
they are thankful for. The dance

Hostess
By: Katie Fischer
The famous Hostess brand
was founded in 1930. This
brand is known for their most
famous, Twinkies and Wonder Bread, and many other
types of snacks that Hostess
creates. The company,
which had been in and out of
bankruptcy restructuring,
was already struggling from
a high cost structure and
sluggish consumer demand
for its products. Lately Hostess has been fighting labor
costs. The reason for this
was because competition
between different varieties of
snacks was increasing, and
lately Americans have been
increasing how conscious
their views are on eating
healthy. Although there are
major providers for other
types of unhealthy snacks,
Hostess was the biggest target, and has been for quite
some time. Although the
employees were continuously warned that it was possible
they could file a motion in
the U.S Bankruptcy Court to

if complications weren’t
cleared up by November 15,

film Silent Hill. This is a new
movie that just hit the theaters recently. It is the story of
an almost 18 year old
Heather Mason who just
found out that her identity
was fake. She did not really
know what was going on,
other than people were chasing her and she had no idea
why. One day, she moved to
a new school and was asked
to talk about herself. She
claims that she is not in the
third grade anymore. Then,
she stands up and tells everyone that they should not get
to know her. She just wants
to be left alone. After class,
she has a vision of just her
with this monster who is
standing at the end of the
hall. Just before it gets bad,
the bell rings and she is
awoken from the daydream
just to find the other new kid
in the school by her. He says
he would like to get coffee
with her sometime, and she
just denies the offer saying
that what she said was meant
to be taken seriously. The
rest of the day is normal until
after class she walks outside
and noticed she was being
followed. She quickly called
her father and he said to go
to the mall where he would
be as shortly as he could. Just
as he said that, the doorknob
to the house starts to jiggle.
Bam! The door gets
knocked down and the
screen goes black. While
waiting on a bench, she has
another vision. There are
clowns in the mall who
suddenly turn to demon
clowns who are chewing on
human meat. Heather takes
off running and hides down
a hallway. In comes the
fellow who had been following her on the street.
She grabs the nearest thing
(which was a PVC pipe)
and threatened to hit him.
He explains that he had been
sent to find her because the
people from Silent Hill wanted her. He tells her that she is
not who she thinks she is and
her father has been lying to
her all of this time. A maniac
who has claws for hands
comes in and chops his fingers off. Heather runs into the
nearby elevator and pulls him
in and asks him to tell her all
he knows. They thought they
got away but the maniac falls
on top of the elevator and
stabs through the roof. What
happens next? Find out for
yourself!

Doomsday Prepping
By: Alec Hassfurther
There are several
individuals throughout the
world that think Armageddon is knocking on our
door. While some people
feel like they cannot stop
the wrath of God that
could be brought about us
to end life on Earth, others
believe the epidemics that
will occur can be stopped,
or at the least they can
lessen the damage done to
them. These people are
called doomsday preppers.
They are ordinary Americans who are preparing for
the end of the world as we
know it. Unique in their
beliefs, motivations, and
strategies, preppers will go
to whatever lengths they
can to make sure they are
prepared for any of life’s
uncertainties. They spend
much of their time and
money on preparing for
the end of the world. They
build shelters and train for
any type of disaster that
may come about to try to
put an end to the human
race.
There are various types of
preppers among us today. They consist of people that plan on bugs
taking over the world
and eating all of our food
to people that believe the
sun is going to explode.
In America today, there
are millions of
“preppers” that are
working feverishly to get
prepared for what they
fear is going to happen to
America. There is a very
good chance that some of
your neighbors or coworkers are preppers.
You may have even noticed that some of your
relatives and friends
have been storing up
food and have been trying to convince you that
we are on the verge of
“the end of the world as
we know it”. Even
though this is not very
common in our area, it is
becoming more and
more common throughout the country and the
world.
Twelve things you can do
to start preparing for the
end of the world, as listed
on endoftheamericandream.com are, “Become
less dependent on your job,
get out of debt, reduce expenses, purchase land,
learn to grow food, find a
reliable source of water,
explore alternative energy
sources, store survival supplies, protect your assets
with gold and silver, learn
self-defense, keep yourself
fit, make friends.” If you
follow these simple directions, you should have a
better chance of surviving
the end of the world as we
know it. This information
may be useful for all of you
that believe that the world
is going to come to an end
soon. Prepare to survive!

Christkindlmarkt
By: Madison Grundhoefer
Every year Ferdinand hosts a
fun-filled and exciting event
that really gets people in the
holiday spirit. This event is
called the Christkindlmarkt.
Ferdinand hosted their 15th
Christkindlmarkt this year. The
Christkindlmarkt has many food
booths, antique stores, and
handcrafted arts. Before any
of this starts, there is an event
called Christkindlmarkt Eve.
This occurred on November 16
at 6:30, and the actual
Christkindlmarkt started the
next day.
The main part of it is at Forest
Park High School. At Forest
Park there were many live
bands that play, food, handmade arts, and a live Glockenspiel. Many students from
Forest Park participate in the
Glockenspiel, sang, and play
guitar. Two other big places
to shop are the new YMCA
and the Ferdinand Community
Center. If you love antiques,
the YMCA was the place to
go. Everything there was antiques, except there was
Schnitzelbank food and a winery. At the Ferdinand Community Center there was a
mixture of things. There was
food, handmade crafts, and a
bunch of Christmas decorations. Many Forest Park clubs
and sports have different food
stands to raise money for their
team. Many people even
spotted St. Nick walking
around all of these places.
On Christkindlmarkt
Eve, a Christmas Angel,
Christkindl, came from a Gothic
styled door out of the monastery. This has been a tradition
in Germany for 500 years at the
Christkindlmarkt. A live Nutcracker also joined Christkindl,
but all he did was wave a banner. Monks were chanting,

eral different places you can go. Center was newly added to
the list of places this year. You
could transport from place to
place by trollies that are always
in a rotation. They couldn’t stay
in a certain place for a long time,
because many people are waiting
to get picked up.
The Christkindlmarkt
attracts many people from the
surrounding area. This year
there was even a group of people
from Mobile, Alabama. Also,
my grandma made friends with
people from Ohio. This is one of
the weekends where Ferdinand is
extremely busy. These people
are trying to get into the Christmas spirit, and the
Christkindlmarkt is one of many
ways to do just that.

Overexposed
By: Alex Russell
Maroon 5 is hardly
the band that they used to be
when releasing their first single Harder to Breathe only a
decade ago. They are looking for an upward rank in the
Top 100, especially after hitting number one with Moves
Like Jagger. By finishing up
the tour in May, Maroon 5
will finally be done with
their tour which has lasted
for nearly a year. The tour
has been sold out for about
half of the concerts preformed so far. Traveling
across the world, Adam Levine says that it is an amazing
experience. The reaction
from the crowd really makes
him happy. The encore chant
is a big thing for Adam Levine. He says once he hears it,
he starts getting chills up his
spine. On this album, One
More Night is the biggest hit
off of the record. Its push and
pull vibes from the first line
of the song, “You and I go
hard at each other like we’re
going to war,” have fans dying over the song. Along
with that, Mickey Madison (a
guitarist) is putting in his
vibes with his instrument.
Adam Levine says that this is
their poppiest album yet.
Critics gave the band an 8.5
in each of these following
subjects: vocals, musicianship, lyrics, production, creativity, lasting value, and reviewer tilt. Even though
some love this new album,
some people find it to be
less desirable to listen to.
Most who dislike the album
say that it is a bit too hip
and too pop for their liking.
They also claim that the
band does not sound like
the typical Maroon 5. Fans
say that this shift from hip
hop with a little bit of soul
to strictly hip hop was a
questionable move that
they think made the band’s
album sales decrease dramatically. The sales chart
of the first week suggests
otherwise. 190,000 is the
number of albums sold in
seven days. That number,
being as large as it is, was
still not enough to take the
number one spot of the
most sold. Lincoln
Park squeezed
themselves just
above Maroon 5 to take the
top spot in sales. Adam Levine does not really care that
they were number two in
sales for that week. He was
just astounded by the number
of albums sold! That is why I
really have to admire Adam
Levine and the rest of the
band.

BCS National Championship
By: Alec Hassfurther
It all comes down to the last
and biggest game of the year.
In this year’s BCS National
Championship game, the
undefeated and number one
ranked Notre Dame Fighting
Irish will be taking on the
number two ranked Crimson
Tide of Alabama. After silencing many doubters, the
Irish clinched their ticket to
the National Championship
and prolonged their undefeated season by beating the
USC Trojans. Alabama had
an even tougher time trying
to get into the big game, having to face the Georgia Bulldogs for the SEC Championship Title. The game is set for
January 7, 2013 at Sun Life
Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Everett Golson. Golson began the year splitting time
with Tommy Reese after
Reese got caught up in
some mischievous acts.
Golson took over the offense and became a big offensive threat for the Irish
by being able to run and
throw the ball.
The Alabama Crimson Tide
are led by Junior quarterback, AJ McCarron. McCarron is a second year starter
for the Crimson Tide. The
Tide is a one loss team that
catapulted itself into the
big game by beating conference rival Georgia in the
SEC Championship game.
Alabama’s only loss came

Irish are led by senior linebacker Manti Teo. Manti has add to their 14 national

8 awards. Players on the opposing side of the ball knew
that Teo was going to give it
his all to stop them from
scoring. He has been made
out to possibly become the
first pick of the 2013 NFL
Draft. The Irish are also led
by Sophomore Quarterback,

championships. In order to do
so, they are going to have to
get past Notre Dame’s effective defense.
The game, on January 7, 2013
will be on every collegiate
football fans television. It has
already become one of the
most hyped National Championship games in NCAA history. It is the Irish’s first time
being in the final game since
1988. Ticket prices for the big
game have reached an all time
high. You practically have to
give an arm and a leg just to
get nose bleed seats to watch
these two teams battle it out.
Who is to win the game is up
in the air. But if you ask me, I
believe the Fighting Irish of
Notre Dame will be victorious
and claim their 14th National
Championship over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Black Ops II
By: Aaron Schuler
A long history of excellence
preceded the release of Call of
Duty Black Ops II: Black ops
with its excellent zombie action,
Modern Warfare 2 and 3 with
the spec ops platform, and Call
of Duty 2, 3, and World at War
with excellent representation of
the World Wars. Therefore,
you should understand that I,
being a prior owner of all said
games, was beyond excited for
the release of Black Ops II. I
even had it preordered six to
seven months in advance. On
the release day I went directly
after school to pick up the
game. Upon entering my house,
I was the happiest guy alive.
After playing the game I was let
down a little because of some
disliked additions. My favorite
part of Black Ops was the epic
Zombie play that promoted a
four player teamwork system of
carnage. The zombie play on
the new Black Ops II game has
increased the number of zombie
maps available to play including
a level that connects the total of
the maps in a campaign style
setup; however, all of the maps
include a source of fire such as
lava that turns the zombies into
zombies that explode upon dying. This addition made me
mad because in the first levels
of zombie survival, the undead
are taken down by a single melee attack and with the added
explosions set off by the flaming zombies it makes the killing
by knife all the more dangerous. The campaign, focused
on a new terrorist threat in the
year 2025, had a good storyline but was short and easily
beaten by a skilled gamer.
The game revolved around the
son of the first Black Ops
character and the main character of the first Black Ops facing off against the terrorist
threat that resulted because of
a mistake made by the best
friend of the main character’s
dad in a military seizure of the
future terrorist. While the
campaign is thought of as the
“main part” of the game, what
people really buy the Call of
Duty line of game for is the
online multiplayer gaming
experience. This allows you
to play various people from
around the world and prove
your standing in the world
ranks. Online you rank up by
playing different types of games
such as death match, team death
match, capture the flag, etc.
Killing other players and keeping
your kill to death ratio at an increasing rate will improve your
standing in the ranks and give
you the bragging rights. Competitive gaming is one way to
describe playing online, but to
accurately define the scene
would to be a howling monkey
holding a controller in its hand
who periodically yells in the
direction of the screen in anger
of death or the excitement of a
kill. It becomes so competitive
and addictive that the game causes strain on the lives some people. Due to the online gaming I
have lost countless hours of
sleep at night, because of my
need to increase my global
standing in the stat board.

Santa Claus
By: Cody Tempel
Santa Claus, as we all
know, is a majestic, magical man. He can travel the
world in one night and
give every child presents.
A flying sled and reindeer
is his way of travel. How
did this man Bcome so
famous and supernatural?
It all started at birth; when
his mother controls nature
and his father goes y the
name of The Sand Man.
They each have magic
powers, which is how little
Claus got his powers. At
the age of three, he could
fly up and down chimneys.
By the time he turned thirteen, already, he could
make things fly. This family lives in deepest parts of
the heaviest woods in Canada. To keep hidden by
humans, there is a spell
that shows us what we expect to see; which happens
to be the forest. Santa
Claus’, first name was given to him because of the
saint, Christopher. Sometimes this magic man can
be holly and jolly. On the
other hand he gets very
grumpy when he doesn’t
get his cookies and milk.
To describe this masculine
figure, I will start with his
age. Once he turned twen-
ty, he never aged again
due to his immortality.
His facial appearance
was, and still is today,
worn, leathery skin, from
the high altitudes he
flies. Light blue eyes,
and almost ninety percent of his face is covered with white fluffiness. His eyebrows to
his beard and long flowing hair look like cotton
balls stuck to his head.
Because of his cookie
and milk problem, he
isn’t quite in shape.
Round is his belly, and
average is his height.
Most of the clothes he
wears consist of red and
green; Christmas colors.
For his work clothes, he
wears a long, red cloak,
with red pants and suspenders and a white
Christmas t-shirt. On top
of his head, you can find
his red and white head cover protects his beautiful,
pure white, flowing locks
from the harshest North
Pole winters. As for his
parents, they really don’t
have a specific form. They
tend to be everywhere at
once. Santa Claus still lives
in the house he always has,
but with his own family. A
wife and a little boy are a
part of his family. His
wife’s name is Jill Claus,
while his son’s name is
Humphrey or Hammy for
short. If you want to try to
find Santa and his family, I
give you sufficient amounts
of luck! Don’t forget that
Santa is a magical and clever man.

2012-2013 Weather Report
By: Bryce Bettag
Well, the Christmas
season is approaching once
again, and it better be a white
one this year! First off, let’s
talk about last year’s winter
and how disappointing it was
to witness. Almost everyone
predicted another treacherous
winter, and we all know that
didn’t happen. Every year, it
seems like the weatherman is
incorrect with his accusations. While parts of Canada
and Alaska received record
snowfalls, the United States
experienced record warm
temperatures and unhappy
students like me. I know it’s
pretty terrible when I’m
walking around outside in
shorts during the winter
months. Once again, the predictions say that we will receive a lot of snow and will
have a wet winter; however,
I believe this season is different.
definitely will get snow,
maybe more than we hope
for. To prove this, try to
recall the winter of 20022003. The El Nino was
pretty much neutral, meaning it wasn’t even in affect!
That is why we had at least
two feet of snow that winter.
If you aren’t convinced just yet, have a gander at this. There is an old
folklore saying about the
persimmon fruit. If you
squeeze out a seed and
carefully cut it open in half,
there will be a kernel-like
substance inside that looks
like a spoon, fork, or knife.
Whichever shape is inside
determines what the weather will be like in the oncoming winter. If the kernel is spoon-shaped, a lot
of heavy, wet snow will
fall; hence, spoon equals
shovel. If it is fork-shaped,
you can expect powdery,

Destination Imagination is a program open
to students from elementary school through college. Destination Imagination, abbreviated as DI,
is an innovative problem
solving organization for
youth and adults. DI's educational objectives are to
foster creative and critical
thinking, to develop teamwork, collaboration and
leadership skills, and to
nurture research and inquiry skills involving both
creative exploration and
attention to detail. Teams
of up to seven members
compete in various challenges that require complex thinking, problem
solving, teamwork, and
creativity. The organization holds international
competitions to encourage
creativity in the world's
youth.
DI programs thrive
with approximately 80,000
participants, 20,000 volunteers from 35 states, and
approximately 20 countries. There are thousands
of teams around the world
including the 4 teams we
have here at Forest Park.
Mrs. Gramelspacher is in
charge of these FP teams.
To be on a team, you
must be willing to put
hundreds of hours of
practice and individual
work in. A lot of their
time is spent working on
props and costumes.
Acting, cooperation,
problem solving, skit
making, and thinking on
your feet are all good
qualities of a DI participant.
Bethany Boeglin,
a senior here at Forest
Park, says her favorite
thing about DI is, “It
makes a family. And we
kick butt, which allows
us to play volleyball with
kids from Turkey! I’ll for
sure miss it, but it never
stops. There are only
about 4 university level
teams in Indiana and
maybe 15 in the world
and next year, we plan
on being a university level team.”
Sam Russell, Jason Brier, Araceli Garcia, Riley Denning, Garret Winkler, Phillip
Rogier, along with Beth-
any Boeglin are on the
team that is planning to become a university level
team next year.
DI world, or Global
Competition, is most of the
team members’ favorite
part of the whole season.
With an opening ceremony
a lot like the Olympics, different countries’ anthems
are played. There are parties and dances every night
and a swimming pool and
giant field for sport games
during the day. Competition, instant challenge, and
closing ceremony are
amazing and fun. The
“prop room” where they
store everything, is where
they meet everyone from
China, Japan, Turkey, Canada, and many others countries.
DI regionals this
year takes place at Forest
Park in March. State is at
Noblesville high school
and Globals is at Tennessee
University.
Make sure
to come

your local
DI teams.

Preparing for Finals
By; Keisha Jackson
It is that time of
year again, the feeling that
is bitter sweet for every
student. It is the most
stressful, yet exciting, time
for many students and
teachers here at Forest
Park High School. It’s finals week! As students,
we work hard to raise up
any grade we can to try
and make the final slightly
less stressful. Since the
final is ten percent of the
grade for the semester,
studying and reviewing
what you have learned is
the only way to get a good
grade in that final. However, many students have
come familiar with a common word we all know and
love, procrastination. The
definition of procrastination: to put off intentionally and habitually, or the
doing of something that
should be done. Many
students put off studying
for the finals until the
night before or the class
period before. This year,
because of the new state
standards for teachers,
they hope that the students take time and have
the attitude to study hard
and get an overall good
grade.
When you first start
studying for finals week,
and know when your finals are. Another important thing is what the
teachers have in mind
for their final. Ask your
teacher what kind of final they plan to give,
whether it’s a multiple
choice, matching, or
writing an essay final.
This will help you know
how to study for this exam. Most high school
teachers give out study
guides or review over
past tests to help you
prepare and study for
that subjects final. Don’t
just let the help they give
you slip they your mind.
This year the finals start
on Wednesday, December 19th, in the afternoon.
Then all day on Thursday we have 3 finals, and
the rest will be taken that
Friday, before we leave
for Christmas break.
The night before all the final exams it is important to
get plenty of rest, at least
eight hours of sleep. Don’t
stay up late the night before and try to cram as
much information into
your head; you will be too
tried the day of the exams.
The morning of the final
wake up at least an hour
before your first test, also
get a good nutritious
breakfast.
Now that you have an idea
of how to prepare for your
finals good luck on all of
them and study hard.

Fiscal Cliff
By: Aaron Schuler
As the year reaches
its end and the holidays grow
nearer, peoples’ moods are
shifting in the direction of
happiness. If they knew,
however, that right now in
the U.S. government, a decision has to be made on when
the terms of the Budget Control Act of 2011 are scheduled to go into effect. This
approaching enigma is called
the fiscal cliff. Last year’s
payroll tax cuts will increase
by two percent. The new tax
for president Obama’s health
care will also go into effect
on December 31st at the
strike of twelve increasing
the amount of tax each person has to pay. There are
three courses of action that
United States lawmakers can
choose between. The first
just lets the new taxes take
effect raising the tax rates
and make spending cuts,
driving back the deficit but
possibly knocking us into
another recession. The second course of action would
be to take the tax increases
and spending decreases and
ignoring them making them
invalid. With the absence of
a change to the current tax
policies, everyday life will be
the same as it was in 2012.
The final course would be
to compromise and take
some of the tax increases
and place them into effect.
The best choice would be
to take the compromise and
have some taxes increase to
reduce the deficit but not
hinder the buying rate of
the average United States
citizen because it would
cause a recession. Although it is ideal, the odds
of a compromise are highly
unlikely. This is due to the
current political differences
in congress. The congressional assembly is somewhat fifty-fifty making it
difficult to achieve anything because when a vote
is called the parties tend to
stick together resulting in a
fifty-fifty tie. Left as is, the
deficit will drop an estimated $560 billion. Even
though there is a decrease
in deficit, an estimated two
million jobs would be lost.
The term “cliff” is used
because it means an immediate decision ending in
two possible outcomes but
with a change to the bill that
congress is working on would
make it, instead of a “cliff”, a
gradual decline. The decline
would allow us to change our
spending habits at a rate parallel to the adjusting economy
to slowly become acclimated
to the new economy instead
of if the law would be left
unchanged giving us a sudden
decrease of spendable money
in our pockets.

The Heisman
By: Sam Russell
As the end of college
football season neared, the
Heisman Trophy talk was bigger
than ever. Everyone has their
own opinion on what player they
thought should win, but in the
end, it was the writers who had
the last say in who took home
the trophy. Here is a list of the
top 3 candidates who were up
for the running, and what solidified them as a top runner for the
Heisman Trophy.
Johnny Manziel, a
freshman quarterback for Texas
A&M, made his
final case for the
Heisman Trophy
as Texas A&M
coasted by Missouri, 59-29. He
was his usual productive self, completing 32 of 44
passes for 372
yards and three
touchdowns while
running for 67
yards and two
scores. He became
the SEC's singleseason totalyardage record
holder, surpassing
Cam Newton's
mark. On the regular season, Manziel
finished with 3419
yards, 24 TDs, 8
INTs, completing
68% of his passes,
rushing 1,181
yards, and scoring
19 touchdowns
on 6.4 yards per
carry.
Manti Te’o, a senior
linebacker for
Notre Dame,
made his final
statement as a
Heisman finalist
when Notre
Dame beat USC
22-13 and locked
up a trip to Miami and the BCS
National Championship Game.
The linebacker
recorded his 7th
interception of
the season and
also secured his
third 100-tackle
season at Notre
Dame. On the
season, Te’o had
101 total tackles,
46 solo tackles, 2
sacks, and 7 interceptions.
Collin Klein, a senior
quarterback for
Kansas State,
won't wow
Heisman voters,
but his senior
leadership steadied Kansas State
in the second
half Saturday,
December 1 as the
Wildcats pulled
away from Texas
for a 42-24 win. In
the first half, he was
4-of-10 passing for
72 yards with an
interception, adding 19 yards rushing and a score. The
third quarter was
more like vintage
Klein, as he led two
TD drives. He
passed and ran for
scores in the fourth
quarter. On the
season, Klein threw
for 2,490 yards, 15
TDs, 7 INTs, ran for
890 yards, and 22
TDs.
Who took home the trophy?
No one knew until the
decision was made on
December 8, 2012. My
sources told me that as
of now, Johnny Manziel
was the front runner for
the trophy, but since he
was a freshman, Manti
Te’o will win since he is
a senior. It was a fight to
the finish, and Johnny
Manizel won the trophy
as a freshman. Congratulations!
