JULY 5TH, 2015
Front the Desk of Sandy Smith
I usually sit upstairs in the balcony when I attend Mass on Sunday. I enjoy watching my parish
family gather, settle down and prepare to celebrate our Faith. It gives me the opportunity to pray
for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon each of us as we come together to encounter Jesus in
the Word, the Eucharist and each other. Recently, I noticed a family of unfamiliar faces enter the
space, quickly decide that there was no room for them, then turn to leave. Now that was truly
not the reality of the upstairs space, so I invited them to sit in the pew I was in; there was clearly
room for all of them. Others welcomed them with smiles and hello’s. Something happened
because of that simple encounter – a family away from home felt at home. A seemingly simple
encounter, BUT an affirmation of the Body of Christ. It was a simple moment of evangelization.
This week we will welcome children from around our area to Vacation Bible School. Many have
been very busy getting ready; building, painting, planning…..praying. Every adult, every teen,
every one of us will have the opportunity to encounter Jesus in these children and in each other.
Through this encounter we continue to build up and affirm the Body of Christ.
Please keep us in your prayers and sacrifices this week. Pray that this encounter will strengthen
faith, and bring about conversion of hearts. Shalom.

WHAT ON EARTH IS DISCIPLESHIP?
Monday to Saturday
July 27 - August 1, 2015
Begins with Dinner at 5:30pm Monday and
ends at 10:30am on Saturday
In this retreat, we will explore Jesus’ understanding
of, and invitation to Discipleship, which includes any
and all of the baptized living today. Then we will go
into the New Testament looking for examples of
discipleship from ‘ordinary’ women and men, and by
no means only the Twelve. The critical issue for us
will then be to determine how the New Testament
examples apply to our own lives today.
