“We added several new golfers to the program that will impact our teams success,”
Gloversville coach Mark LeFever said. “Kyle
Fonda and Kyle Johnston are two very good
players that could compete deep into sectional
play.”
Gloversville will host the 2015 Foothills
Council championship tournament on Sept. 25
at Kingsboro Golf Club.
The Johnstown Sir Bills will be among the
contenders for the Foothills Council title with a
strong turnout of quality golfers this fall.
Leading the way are veterans Ben Wager,
Ethan Wager, Jake Miller, Ben Russo, Ethan
Gordon and David Malagisi as well as newcomers Spencer Frenyea, Nate Ackerknecht,
Brandon Mraz, Jarred Brown and Ethan Hadcock.
“Ben Wager will compete with the league’s
top golfers,” Johnstown coach Mark Ralbovsky said. “His brother, Ethan and cousin,
Jake Miller, provide a solid 2-3 showing. Ethan
Gordon, a talented senior, and Ben Russo
added experienced players to help solidify the
lineup. We will be extremely competitive
amongst ourselves all year round. I expect
Brandon Mraz and Nate Ackerknecht to establish themselves as the year progresses and
David Malagisi, Spencer Frenyea and Ethan
Hadcock have been with us a while and have
the opportunity to help out as well.”
The Amsterdam Rams finished on top of the
Foothills Council South standings in 2014 but
lost some key elements from that squad.
Seniors Marc LaBahn, Corey Tambasco and
Kevin Ottati all graduated and top golfer James
Phelps moved to Florida.
Despite the losses, the Rams are in the thick
of the battle for the Foothills crown with consistent efforts from Jon LaBahn, Andy Madej,
Erin Rivera and Mike Hughes.
“We are a young but enthusiastic group,”
third year Amsterdam coach Tim Jones said.
“Everyone want to get better and practice. That
will only benefit us as the season goes on and
we gain more experience.”
Fort Plain, Canajoharie and the combined
Northville/Mayfield squads figure to be contenders for the Western Athletic Conference
title this season.
Canajoharie was runner-up in the WAC last
year and are looking to move up a spot this season.
Leading the way for the Cougars are veterans
Mike Balfe, Austin countryman, Chris Codone,
Brian Christian and Will Parrino.
“We are looking to continue building a successful program and with the returning and new
players,” Canajoharie coach Chris Smith said.
The Northville-Mayfield squad has a big
holes to fill with the graduation of two-time CD Sectional tournament champion Jordan
Fordyce and WAC first team all-star Gavon
Winn.
Frank Coulter, a sectional qualifier and WAC
second-team all-star, has been consistent so far
this season in leading Northville-Mayfield this
season along with four-year varsity golfer
Thomas Pawlowski, Tyler Newkirk, Chase
Heavner, Dave Servello Jr., Mario Quintana,
Giovanni Angelo and tyler Cramer.
“We have a combination of new and experienced players, which will allow us to hopefully
have a good record this year and in the future,”
Mayfield-Northville coach Mike Iannotti said.
With seniors Kenny Travis and Brianna
Swartz and junior Austin Cotton, Mike D’Arcangelis and Jacob Hazlett leading the way the
Fort Plain Hilltoppers are ready to challenge
teams when they tee off.
Also carding low scores for the Hilltoppers
this season have been Drew and Brady Fureno
and Taylor Gifford.
The WAC league championships are scheduled for Sept. 30 at Cobleskill Country Club.
After going winless last season, the FondaFultonville Braves have already improved that
mark with a pair of Colonial Council victories
over Cobleskill-Richmondville so far this year.
2014 sectional qualifier Adam DeSorbo is
leading the Braves along with returning players
Alec Mahon, Garrett Kowalcyk, Ethan Harding and Braxton Williams.
“The kids are very excited for this season,”
Braves’ first-year coach Kyle Hanson said.
