SUNNYSIDE MOTHER'S CLUB
Organized in 1926, with eleven active members in 1976, Eila Kirk, Mildred Barnes, Blanch
Lamb, Nellie Pinkston, Gladys Oakley, Doris Duncan, Helen Shaffer, Thelma Suppes, Coldie
Cutler, Agnes Federman and Ruth Hays.
The club membership are women who lived in the Sunyside School District #39 of Flat
Branch Township, which is four miles southeast of Moweaqua. School consolidation in the
early fifties found the Sunnyside School being moved to Moweaqua and serving as a music
room to the school.
Under competent leaders and committees, planned programs and projects have been
carried out through the years. Some worthy of mention are: Regular visits to members in
nursing homes, being remembered with gifts and goodies. Each month committees took
snacks for the patients in the Sparling Nursing Home, Moweaqua. Other projects of cash
and time were given to W.L.S. Good Neighbors Club, Heart Fund, Police Fund, and Crippled
Children's Fund. M u c h time was spent in making cancer dressings. Boys overseas (1942-46)
were not forgotten. Monthly committees filled boxes to be sent to them and many "Thank
You's" were received. This project was repeated for Moweaqua boys serving in Viet Nam.
Services have been given in love, for others in our community.
Charter members in 1926 in the Sunnyside Mother's Club were: Maude Kirk, Gertrude
Duncan, Nellie Becker, Mary Wright, Corda Lockart, Minnie Suppes and Aura Casey.

In 1930 Sunnyside Mother's Club changed i t s name to Sunnyside Community Club.
Those named have enjoyed membership in the club: Virginia Adams, Effie Osborn, Beryl
Karick, Mable Cutler, Vera Younker, Alice Sims, Mercedes Stanger, Mrs. Arnold Brookshire,
Edith Merriman, Joyce Tolly, Ercel Pyatt, Mrs Pete Shewmaker, and Minner Carrack.
As a community club, we have made the best of whatever we possessed, counted the
many blessings the years have brought, given grateful thanks to everyone, and may C o d
be blessed.
