Registration for the 2016 Vermont HR Conference is now
open! The conference will be September 8 & 9 at the Hilton
Burlington.
We’ve teamed up with an all-star line-up
of thought leaders – Ann Rhoades, Anthony Bourke, Jarrett Krosoczka, and
Mark Cook – to infuse creative and innovative ideas into our business initiatives
and strategies. Our breakout sessions (18

WELLNESS FUNDS AVAILABLE
The Vermont Department of Health has recently released a request for proposals for a
funding opportunity to promote worksite
wellness at small workplaces. These Working
Toward Wellness grants will support the development of worksite wellness programs to
promote physical activity and nutrition initiatives for employees. Six grants in the amount
of $3,000 each are available this year. In addition to funding, worksites will be partnered
with local health department staff for ongoing
technical assistance and support. To be eligible, worksites must have fewer than 100 employers and must not have an existing wellness program. This year, we are funding
worksites in the following district areas: Barre,
Rutland, St. Albans, St. Johnsbury, Springfield,

Shearer Automotive Group is seeking a Human Resources Manager for its five auto dealerships with 240 employees
across all departments including sales, service, parts, body shop, auto prep, and administration. This is a one-person
department responsible for all HR activities high to low, in coordination with 4 Office Managers, reporting to the Chief
Financial Officer.
The position is located in South Burlington and oversees Shearer Chevrolet-GMC-Buick-Cadillac, Shearer Volkswagen,
Audi South Burlington, Shearer Acura, and Shearer Honda.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related
• A minimum of 5 years of HR experience, HR certification a plus
• Strong knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office, HRIS and Payroll software
• Superior oral and written communication skills
• Skillful problem solver within a blue collar (non-union) workforce
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with managers and employees at all levels
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Administrative
• Place recruitment advertisements and provide assistance in hiring process
• Establish paper and electronic employee files and maintain all other HR related files
• Present new employee benefits programs and process enrollments
• Enter health insurance deductions and 401k contribution changes in payroll system
• Onboard new employees and set up online training
Compensation, Benefits, Workers Compensation
• Advise on compensation and FLSA compliance, respond to employment verifications
• Manage all benefits plans including medical, dental, life, short term disability, 401k, PTO
• Troubleshoot health insurance claims and related issues with carrier and advisors
• Work with benefits advisors on plan renewals and manage annual open enrollment
• Manage FMLA and other leaves of absence in compliance with applicable laws
• File and manage workers compensation and short term disability claims
Employee Relations, Employment Policies, and Safety
• Respond to and advise on employee relations and performance issues
• Maintain and interpret Employee Handbook and stay abreast of all employment laws
• Advise on established employee safety programs and ensure OSHA compliance in coordination with an outside Certified Safety Professional
General
• Consult with managers on best practices in areas of recruitment, selection, compensation, performance management,
file documentation, terminations, and related.
