MASS INTENTIONS
THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
January 25, 2015
SAT 1/24
4:00 PM
First Reading: Jonah 3:1-5, 10
Jonah set out for Nineveh as God asked and told the people
that their city would be destroyed in forty days. The people
believed him and repented from their evil ways. God did not
destroy their city, showing his mercy for those who see the evil
of their ways and correct it.
SUN 1/25
8:00 AM
9:30 AM
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 7:29-31
Paul advises the Corinthians that their world is changing, so
they should not take their daily trials too seriously. We should
remember that the problems of everyday living will not last
forever, but the eternal life God promises us will.
11:30 AM
Gospel: Mark 1:14-20
Jesus observes Simon and Andrew where they are fishing and
tells them to come with him and become “fishers of men.” They
abandon their nets without hesitation to follow him. Next he
calls James and his brother John, who also leave what they
are doing and follow him without question.

travel with us to help us understand Jesus’
passion through her own eyes then and
through her eyes now as well.
Any person who wants time during Lent to
honor Mary as a mom. A mom who
experienced sorrow, pain and injustice, yet
she was compassionate and forgiving and
trusting.

So….WHO does the welcoming and WHOM
are you welcoming? Our team welcomes our
new parishioners! We have 3 teams. The first
team arranges a welcome bag full of goodies
such as the history of our parish, sanctuary
artwork info, a refrigerator magnet with our
parish info, and maybe a baked goody. The
second team goes to homes to visit the new
parishioners. The third team writes and sends
greeting cards to those who are listed on our
prayer chain.
So….WHAT do you need to become a
“welcomer?” A nice, warm, “welcomer”
personality! If you got it, you’re in!

Liturgical Art and Environment
Have you wondered why we have an old antique
trunk centered at the altar?
November – the fruits of the harvest
December – the time of anticipation- Veni
Emmanuel-Come Lord Jesus
Christmas Time – the arrival of the Infant KingWonder Counselor
January/February – the treasures of our faith; the
Gospels, Roman Missal; hymnal; Prayers and
scriptures
February/March/April/May - Ash Wednesday and
throughout the Easter Season – Repent and Follow
Me into New Birth-Alleluia!
Since November when we celebrated our fifth
anniversary as St. Simon Stock Parish, we have
centered at the altar an antique trunk. Trunks
signify history, mystery, traditions and treasures.
For us at St. Simon Stock Parish it is all of these.
This same trunk adorned our worship space in 20092010, the first year of our new parish. We brought it
back and have centered it in our liturgical
celebrations.
Share this with your family, your children and your
friends. What a wonderful visual image!
These are the treasures, traditions and mystery of
our faith journey so far!

Child Lures Prevention Program
February 22, 2015
6:30 pm ~ Parish Meeting Center
The Diocese of Camden has selected Child Lures
Prevention as a safe environment program for our
religious education programs in the parishes. The basic
premise is that an individual who intends to harm a child
uses a “lure” to get the child away and to do harm. So,
children are taught how to recognize lures and how to
protect themselves.
Just the Way You Are (You’re Amazing)
Each year your child will be taught a different lure. The
Diocese of Camden is committed to ensure that the
children entrusted into our care are safe and that we
provide them with the tools they need to guarantee their
safety.
Presenter: Jessica Boyington – former Alumni of
OLMC School, Paul VI and Miss New Jersey, USA
Jessica is known not only from her time as Miss New
Jersey but also from working as a traffic reporter for
CBS 3 Eyewitness News and the Chio in the Morning
show on Wired 96.5.
Fresh Fruit, Cookies & Chocolate Dessert Bar.
Make Up Samples from Arbonne – Pure, Safe,
Beneficial Health & Wellness Products. Please RSVP to
[email protected] by February 12th.
If you do not wish your child to participate in the session,
please let Mrs. Raiker know immediately. If you have
any questions about the program, please do not hesitate
to call me for further information at 856-756-7900 ext.

STEWARDSHIP
TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE
Parish Guidelines for the
Prevention of the spread of the flu during Mass
STEWARDSHIP
Stewards Follow
“Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.” –
MARK 1:17B
Jesus’ call to “Follow me” is a call to all His Stewards!
Jesus asks us to help Him build his church on earth by
generously sharing all our gifts of prayer, talent and
treasure. Remember, Jesus calls us to generously
develop and share all our gifts, not just the ones we pick
and choose.
Parishioners who feel ill should be reminded to stay at
home and refrain from attendance at Mass or other
church events until they are fully recovered. Illness is a
justifiable excuse from the Sunday Mass obligation.
During the flu season, the faithful should be encouraged
to share the Sign of Peace without touching hands or
kissing. This may be done with eye-contact, a smile, and
a bow of the head while saying the words “May the
peace of Christ be with you.”
OFFERTORY COLLECTION
January 18, 2015
Sunday Collection: $ 8,994.00
Electronic Parish Giving: $ 908.00
Capital Needs Debt Collection: $ 1,243.00
Electronic Parish Giving: $ 60.00
Candles: $ 144.00
Poor Box: $ 405.00
The GIRM helps in this by saying in Chapter II par.82:
“…the faithful express to each
other their ecclesial
communion and mutual charity…it is appropriate that
each person, in a sober manner, offer the sign of peace
only to those nearest.”
During the flu season, priests, deacons, and
extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion should be
especially reminded of the need to practice good
preventative hygiene. Ministers of Holy Communion
should be encouraged to wash their hands before Mass
begins, and even to use an alcohol-based anti-bacterial
solution before and after distributing Holy Communion.
MISSION MEMBERSHIP SUNDAY
The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, founded in
1822 by a French lay woman, is the basic means of support for
the Church's worldwide missions in dioceses in Asia, Africa,
the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America.
This weekend, all of us in the Diocese of Camden will have an
opportunity to make a special commitment to the worldwide
missionary work of the Church through enrollment in the
Propagation of the Faith on Mission Membership Sunday. In
doing so, we can reach out to the peoples of the world and to
provide the financial resources to assist priests, Religious
Sisters and Brothers, and lay catechists as they help young
people who are searching for meaning in life, comfort refugees
in their spiritual and material needs, minister to the sick, teach
small children, prepare adults for Baptism, or bring help and
hope to the suffering in times of natural disaster and war.
Please be as generous as your means will allow in this week’s
second collection.
The faithful should be instructed not to receive from the
cup if they feel ill. That "no one is ever under an
obligation to receive from the chalice" and that "anyone
who is ill, or suspects he or she is ill, should refrain from
receiving from the chalice out of good will and consider
receiving the host in the hand rather than by the mouth."
(USCCB – Secretariat for Divine Worship)
During the flu season, greeters and ushers should use
verbal greetings only and not shake hands with
parishioners.
ATTENTION: EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
First of all thank you for your service to God and His
People. You are a great help to our priests and a
blessing to our parish community.
BERLIN COMMUNITY SCHOOL FASHION SHOW
Berlin Community School Fashion Show will be held at
Lucien's on March 12th, 2015. Tickets are $40. For
tickets please contact Roseanne Perkins at (856) 3711723 beginning Monday, February 9th.
As you know, some of our EMs go beyond the doors of
the Church to bring the Eucharist to the homebound and
the patients in the rehab and nursing home in Berlin. It
is a rewarding and blessed ministry for all concerned.
BLOOD DRIVE THANK YOU
The Knights of Columbus wish to thank everyone for
making our Red Cross blood drive a success. According
to the Red Cross supervisor in charge we had 57 donors
and we were credited with 52 units!
At this time, there is a need for a volunteer to visit the
nursing home and rehab in Berlin on the second Sunday
of each month. Would you consider being this person?
If so, please call me at 856-767-2563 Ext. 310 and leave
your name and phone number. Thank you and God
bless you!

PICTURING MARY
Prayer for the World Meeting
of Families in Philadelphia
Picturing Mary, presented by the National Museum of Women
in the Arts (Washington, DC), is a rare opportunity to meet
Mary as she was imagined by some of the greatest
Renaissance and Baroque artists.
God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our
Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in
the family of the Church.
More than sixty masterworks are brought together from
museums, churches, and private collections in Europe and the
United States. The exhibition presents images of Mary as a
daughter, cousin, and wife; the mother of an infant; a bereaved
parent; the protagonist in a rich life story; a link between
heaven and earth; and an active participant in the lives of
those who revere her.
May your grace and love help our families in every part
of the world be united to one another in fidelity to the
Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your
Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most
troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and to
always seek your truth and live in your love.

Catholic Charities’ Year of the Family
Catholic Charities’ Year of the Family newsletter for the month
of January is now available on our website:
http://www.catholiccharitiescamden.org/wpcontent/uploads/2015/01/Jan.-newsletter.pdf
The theme for the month of January as we move through the
human lifecycle is school-age children. The newsletter contains
an article for parents on navigating those years with their
children from one of the counselors in our school-based family
support program. We also use this issue to highlight our asset
development program as we begin a new year. Finally, to
commemorate the Catholic Bishops’ observance last week of
National Migration Week, the issue contains a reflection on the
refugee families we serve from our refugee and immigration
services program director.
