ALINEA (Progressive American) $$$$
1723 N. Halsted St. 312-867-0110
Five stars is not enough for this innovative and whimsical restaurant.
In 2006, it was named “Best Restaurant in America” by Gourmet
Magazine. Grant Achatz’s dazzling menus feature 12 or 24 courses

creations possess a certain gee-whiz, how'd-he-do-that technicality
(many are presented on specially designed service pieces), they also
pack remarkable depth and flavor. The creations can involve
cinnamon smoking over a hot rock to provide an aromatic kick to rare
bison, or butterscotch-glazed bacon draped over a wire on a rocking
metal stand.
