General Information
If a class or workshop is cancelled, students will be notified at least three business days
prior to the first scheduled class or workshop. If you do not hear from the CAC, your class will be
running as scheduled. The CAC reserves the right to make changes in programs, schedules, and
instructors, and to cancel classes due to low enrollment. The CAC reserves the right to cancel or refuse
the registration of a student in a class or workshop with no refund, if participation by the student is
deemed disruptive or interferes with the learning atmosphere and enjoyment of the class/workshop.
Class Refund Policy
A $12.50 non-refundable processing fee is included in each class tuition. 100% of tuition (less the
processing fee) will be refunded if requested at least one week prior to the class/workshop; 75% of
tuition (less the processing fee) will be refunded if requested after the first class; 50% of tuition (less
the processing fee) will be refunded if requested after the second class; no refunds will be made if
requested after the third class. This does not apply to one-time workshops.

The Chesapeake Arts Center classes follow the Anne Arundel County Public Schools emergency
closings protocols. For the safety of our students and parents, classes are cancelled
when AACPS closes due to inclement weather. For the most current information about
closings go to the AACPS website, www.aacps.org, (where the latest news will be
posted at the top of the screen) or call the snow phone at 410-222-5110 or 1-800-893-7080. When
possible, the CAC will post info regarding cancellations on the CAC website and Facebook page.
Tuition Assistance Program
The Chesapeake Arts Center is committed to making exceptional arts education opportunities
accessible and affordable for our citizens. Thanks to support from Anne Arundel Community Development
Services, 25% to 75% of tuition assistance is available for qualifying residents in Anne Arundel County.
Priority is given to applicants residing in Brooklyn Park, Glen Burnie, Severn, and surrounding
communities (especially 21225, 21060, 21061, 21144, and the AA County portion of 21226). For more
information and qualification requirements, contact the CAC Main Office at 410-636-6597 or download an

Children will explore low relief clay cutouts from slabs, forms from molds, free sculptural form, and have a chance to work
on the wheel. Students will also learn ways to decorate their work through stamping and glazing. Clay terminology will be

Students will learn to center clay and create basic forms on the potter’s wheel
in a fun and encouraging environment. They will learn a variety of surface
decoration techniques, and demonstrations of complex forms will open students up to the

Students will discover rhythmic, musical, and percussive instruments that can be created with everyday objects. The
workshop is fun, interactive, and informative, at times even utilizing movement to illustrate and generate rhythm. Students

Expressive Movement - THA 506a, THA 506b Ages: 7-12
Expressive Movement is a class for children who are interested in dancing, but might not grasp traditional styles such as
ballet or jazz. This class will give children the opportunity to express themselves non-verbally, through dance, movement,
and art. The instructor will meet the needs of the children in the present moment while encouraging their creativity and
self-expression. This class is appropriate for, but not limited to, those with attention deficit disorders, poor social skills,
behavioral issues, and low self-esteem.

Shapesville Community Dance Project - DAN 212 Ages: 7-13
In this class, children will explore dance as a creative and fun-filled journey through the community of Shapesville. All
students will create their own expressive dances and artwork that will become part of a culminating dance performance
and Festive Community Night with Towson University Dance students. Students will perform their original dances with
students from Towson University as part of a work called Shapesville: the Town Where You Can Be U. Based on the book,

In this class, we will explore the many aspects of art that go into creating a painting. The course will include: black and white

Woodcarving for Beginners - ART 107a, ART 107b Ages: 16+
A “Hands-On” Class! Learn basic hand-carving techniques from an experiences wood carver while
creating your own boot sculpture! Topics covered will include safety as well as discussion of the
various types of knives, wood, and paint/sealers. Tuition includes safety glove, utility knife, and
carving wood. Additional knives can be ordered individually by the student.

The perfect class for all those toddlers running around in capes! Children will be encouraged to create their own hero
character with special powers, use their imaginations to play-act with their heroic friends, and even create their own
costumes! A combination of simple gymnastics, acting, crafts, and character-building all rolled into one! Parents are asked
to attend class with their child.

Magic for Kids - THA 107 Ages: 7 - 12
Magic for Kids teaches the core skills necessary to perform simple magic and
performance. During this six-week course, students will not only learn the basics of a
variety of magical effects, but also other skills such as problem solving, with planning,
organizing, seqeuncing, and strategy skills; attention and concentration; visual, tactile,
and kinesthetic perception; higher cognitive skills with mathematical and educational
activities; psycho-social abilities using interpersonal skills, group interaction,
self-esteem, and presentation skills; and communication skills focusing on socialization
and non-verbal communication.

Door Stop Critters - MAT 124 Ages: 8+
BANG BANG!!!! Have a door that won’t stay open or likes to slam shut every time there’s a bit of a
breeze running through the house? Here’s two ways of fixing that. A cute ‘n crafty owl and cat you
can make and turn into your own door stops. You can fill them with clean sand, pebbles, gravel,
dried rice, or beans to ensure they’re heavy enough to stay put. Have fun by enrolling in this class.

When you want to match your jewelry box to a specific room’s decor, the easiest way to
accomplish that is to make it yourself! Design and decorate a jewelry box to store small items that
might otherwise be lost in a larger container. Embellish the box to fit within your room’s decor.

Getting Paid to Talk - THA 503 Ages: 18+
Ever been told you have a great voice? From audio books and cartoons to documentaries, commercials, and more, this class
will introduce you to the growing field of voice over. Learn what the pros look for, how to prepare, and where to find work in
your area! We’ll discuss industry pros and cons and play samples from working voice professionals. In addition, you’ll have
the opportunity to record a short professional script under the direction of our teacher. This class is lots of fun, realistic, and
a great first step for anyone interested in the voice over field.

Fees ~ A $12.50 non-refundable processing fee is included in each class tuition.100% of tuition (less the processing fee) will be refunded if requested at
least 1 week prior to the class/workshop; 75% of tuition (less the processing fee) will be refunded if requested after the first class; 50% of tuition (less the
processing fee) will be refunded if requested after the second class; no refunds will be made if requested after the third class. This does not apply to onetime workshops.
Cancellations ~ If a class or workshop is cancelled, students will be notified at least 3 business days prior to the first scheduled class or workshop. If you do
not hear from CAC, your class will be running as scheduled. CAC reserves the right to make changes in programs, schedules, and instructors, and to cancel
classes due to low enrollment.
Student Behavior Policy ~ CAC reserves the right to cancel or refuse the registration of a student in a class or workshop with no refund, if participation by
the student is deemed disruptive or interferes with the learning atmosphere and enjoyment of the class/workshop.
