WELCOME
Now is the time to put in place your stepping
stones to a successful future.
Our Sixth Form aims to enable all of our
students to achieve the success they
need to pursue their chosen goals. Sixth
Form education is a stepping-stone to
a variety of future possibilities including
training, employment, Further and Higher
Education.
To that end we aim to be a truly inclusive
Sixth Form which provides guidance and
courses suited to the individual learning
needs and future plans for each student,
and create an environment in which all
our students feel valued, happy and able
to develop. Support is provided for the
personal and social development of
each Sixth Former, so that they may
acquire skills and qualities of leadership,
tolerance, initiative, responsibility and
self-determination.
We offer experience of a wide range of
activities – academic, social, spiritual,
aesthetic, practical and sporting; to
challenge our students to think seriously
about their future after the Sixth Form
Edmonton County School Sixth Form
and to give them the best information,
advice and guidance available to
develop and realise those plans.
Above all, a student’s time in the
Sixth Form is voluntary. Students opt to
return and further their education
because they wish to. Our underlying
aim, therefore, is to make that time as
challenging, rewarding, stimulating
and as fun as possible. Academic work
forms the core of our Sixth Form provision
but we place equal emphasis on providing
opportunities for the development of
the whole individual. Our Sixth Formers
are young adults and can expect to be
treated accordingly.

Thank you for taking the time to consider
Edmonton County School Sixth Form
for one of the most important stages in
your life. We hope that you are able to
find the information that you need in our
prospectus and at our Open Evening to
see how we can make the difference to
your future education and life goals.

EDMONTON STUDENT UNION
All in all being a member of Edmonton Sixth
Form is not only highly productive, but fun
and inspiring too.
Being in the Sixth Form is unlike any other
experience at school. You are given
much more responsibility and
independence as well as the support
needed to make the right decisions for
your future. The timetabled independent
study periods in year 12 allow you to
manage the huge increase in workload
that you will face as a Sixth Former
while allowing you to develop as an
independent learner.
The superb new common room facilities
located on both campuses are a fantastic
resource which enhances the Sixth Form
experience and promotes a sense of
community between the students as well
as helping to bridge the gap between
school and next steps which could be
university or the world of work.
3
As the Edmonton Student Union we
are working closely with the staff in the
school to ensure all students achieve their
potential and have an enriching Sixth
Form experience. The staff are friendly and
encouraging and are always on hand to
advise and help you achieve your goals.
Although studying hard for your subjects
is important, in this Sixth Form a well
balanced outlook is encouraged.
Many opportunities are available to take
part in a range of activities within areas
such as; sport, culture, science, local
politics, as well as trips abroad and more
closer to home to London to explore
and enlighten.

Students are given the opportunities and
resources to be successful learners.
Sixth Form students on both the
Cambridge and Bury campus benefit from
a large dedicated Common Room. These
rooms are fully equipped with computer
and kitchen facilities and have a Sixth Form
Student Manager located next door which
ensures a secure learning environment
with student access to the support needed
to be happy and confident learners.
Good communication is key to our Sixth
Form. All students are allocated a Tutor
who will oversee their progress through
regular tracking and monitoring of
attainment, attendance and progress.
Each student will be given a target and
challenge grade for each subject and
progress made will be communicated
through regular Profile reports and Parents’
Evenings. If a student is underachieving,
interventions and support will be provided.
5
To support student applications to work,
further and higher education, we have
a series of advice tutorials and Parents’
Information Evenings on the UCAS process
and student finance which endeavours
to fully prepare students for their higher
education application.
Each year all students in Year 12 attend the
UCAS Higher Education Fair, and university
taster courses such as HEADSTART, MEDSIX
and VETSIX are offered to give students a
feel for university life.
All students complete a comprehensive
tutorial programme which considers
many of the challenges and opportunities
available when they leave the Sixth Form.

WhAT WE OffEr
What to expect...high quality teaching and
learning, excellent IAG, outstanding facilities,
and rigorous tracking and monitoring of
progress towards your goals.
There is no such thing as a typical
Edmonton Sixth Former. Our students
study a wide range of subjects and types
of courses, have many different career
and life aspirations while providing a rich
mixture of different cultural backgrounds,
and with widely varying personalities.
But our aim is to ensure that they all
develop a number of special qualities that
will allow them to achieve their potential
now and in the future.
Our wide range of courses and
potential learning pathways ensures
we are an inclusive Sixth Form which
has always been a strength to ensure
equality of opportunity for all to achieve
their potential.
At Edmonton we strive to ensure equal
treatment and opportunity for all our
prospective students, regardless of
whether you are applying as an internal
or external applicant. Our admissions
process aims to assess your potential as
an Edmonton Sixth Form student and
the contribution you can make to the
Sixth Form.

Course
About the Course
Progression
AS & A2
Level
Students can study up to a maximum of five AS subjects (the fifth choice could be either General Studies
or Extended Project) in the first year, depending on ability. The entry criteria is generally minimum grade
B at GCSE in the subject or related subjects on top of a minimum 5 A* - C grades. Further entry criteria
details can be found in the subject pages. Progression onto A2 year is not automatic and is dependent on
successful achievement in the AS year of the course, a good starting point would be regarded as achieving
your target grade for each of your AS subjects. The majority of students would start four AS courses in the
first year, some students would then stop at the AS level for one and continue with three into A2, which
is the minimum number of courses. A significant number of students complete four full A2 subjects plus
either General Studies or Extended Project.
Students that successfully
complete A2 Levels can
apply for a wide range of
degrees at university
or entry into a profession
or can gain employment /
apprenticeship.
BTEC
Level 3
BTEC National Diplomas are two year courses and are equivalent to A Level study. 5 GCSE grades A* - C
are normally required, including English. You can combine your course with an AS Level, a re-sit GCSE
providing you meet the entry requirements and it can be accommodated in the Sixth Form Timetable.
Attainment of a Distinction is equivalent in UCAS points to an A grade at A2. Some courses are equivalent
to three A2 courses e.g. Sport BTEC.
Students that successfully
complete these courses can
apply for relevant degrees
at university or can gain
employment
/ apprenticeship within the
relevant industry.
BTEC
Level 2
These are one year courses equal to 4 GCSEs and are called BTEC First Diplomas. The entry criteria are
generally 5 GCSE grades at A* - E including English. Students can only select a course if they have not
previously obtained passes or higher in Yr 11. The level 2 course would be combined with re-sit English
Language and Mathematics to allow students to improve their grade to a C as required for Level 3 study
the following year.
Successful completion to
a MERIT or DISTINCTION
coupled with C grade in
Mathematics and English
Language may allow
progression to a Level 3
course(s) including AS
levels in a relevant subject
or enter into employment
/ apprenticeship within the
relevant industry.
Level 1
The Level 1 Transition Diploma is a one year course to enable students to access a range of options the
following year including college / employment / apprenticeships. The entry criteria is 5 GCSE grades at D
- G including English and Mathematics. The nature of the programme will be dependant on viable group
size and learner needs but may include a range of vocational courses and ASDAN qualifications. The course
is delivered in partnership with Southgate College and includes a one day a week work placement.
Successful completion could
lead to further study on a
Level 2 course at college or
employment /
apprenticeship.

Q&A
What will happen if I don’t get the grades
for my chosen subjects?
What happens in ‘free’ periods?
The grade requirement is there to advise
you as to your suitability to study and
succeed on a particular course. We will
always try to ensure that you are placed
on a learning pathway that matches your
needs and ability, the interview on GCSE
results day will finalise your courses.
These are called Independent Study
Periods and in Year 12 we have dedicated
rooms for supervised study during these
times to help you manage your workload.
In Year 13 students are permitted to decide
where they will complete their work, be
it at home, local library or in the study
facilities provided on both campuses.
Can I do different AS subjects in Year 13?
What is the Sixth Form Dress Code?
Yes, the learning pathways are quite
flexible, so you can add new AS or
BTEC subjects once they fit in with your
timetable and you have attained the entry
criteria. Many of the students who start on
Level 2 courses in Year 12 go on to start
Level 3 AS and BTEC courses in Year 13 and
then complete the A2 course in Year 14.
There is a high standard of dress expected
in the Sixth Form. All students are required
to wear smart business like attire and take
pride in their appearance as they are role
models to the rest of the student body.
Can I do GCSE retakes?
Yes, you can study for retake English
Language and/or Mathematics alongside
your other subjects. We do not offer
retakes in any other subjects.
17
Can I go offsite during a independent
study period?
In Year 12 the study periods are part of
the timetable offered and students must
attend all the sessions unless they are
taking part in the Skills for the Future
scheme and undertaking arranged work
experience during some of these sessions.
What financial help is available for Sixth
Form students now the EMA is gone?
It has been replaced with the Bursary
Fund and the government have provided
guidelines for assessing suitability.
The school operates a fair method of
assessment which is in line with the
guidelines provided and the agreed
protocol within Enfield, we aim to provide
whatever assistance we can with the funds
allocated to students who are in need.
What if I change my mind about the
subjects I have been offered?
It is no problem to change your mind
about your subjects as long as you
have achieved the entry criteria for
your new selection, we are happy to
accommodate any changes needed
and the timetable blocks will be available
for you to see what combinations are
possible.
