OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by
Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s
love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming
all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others, and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body
of Christ.
STOP ASSISTED SUICIDE
IN CALIFORNIA
DETENGA EL SUICIDIO ASISTIDO EN
CALIFORNIA
Stop Assisted Suicide in CA before it’s too late!
Earlier this year, through a Special Session, the
CA legislature passed assisted suicide, allowing
doctors to prescribe overdose medication to
terminally ill patients. Join a coalition of physicians, nurses, disability-rights organizations, and
people of all faiths to stand for the lives of our
elderly and dying and oppose assisted suicide!
On the weekends of December 12/13, and 19/20
petitions will be available for signature outside of
Masses. Signers must be registered to vote in
California and can only sign once.
Why Oppose Assisted Suicide?
• Sends the Wrong Message: Legalizing suicide for the terminally ill, while discouraging it
for the rest of the population, teaches that
the lives of the ill and disabled do not matter
to our society.
• Will Worsen Patient Care: Patients in other
states, like Barbara Wagner in Oregon, are
being denied treatment prescribed by their
doctors, and instead offered drugs for assisted suicide.
• Will Increase Non-Terminal Suicide Rates:
Suicides skyrocket when assisted suicide is
legalized. Oregon's suicide rate for nonterminal people increased 49% after assisted
suicide became legal.
SIGN LANGUAGE MASSES
Sign Masses for the Deaf/Hard of
Hearing on Sundays at 9:00 a.m.
Please seat on Our Lady of
Guadalupe side.
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS.
THEY MAKE OUR BULLETIN POSSIBLE!!
nuestra sociedad.
► Empeorara el Cuidado del Paciente: A
pacientes en otros estados, como Barbara
Wagner en Oregón, se les está negando
tratamiento recetado por sus médicos, y en
su lugar se les está ofreciendo medicinas
para asistir el suicidio.
► Aumentará el Índice de Suicidios sin
enfermedades terminales: Los suicidios
suben cuando el suicidio asistido es
legalizado. El índice de suicidios de Oregón
para personas sin enfermedades terminales
incremento un 49% después de que el
suicidio asistido se legalizo.

Oh, Christmas Tree!!!
Saint Boniface was an eight-century missionary praised by Pope Gregory II who
brought Christianity to Germany. Returning to Germany later, he found that Christianity
has not taken hold. On Christmas Eve he came upon the eldest son of the chieftain
Gundhar being readied for sacrifice to the gods. The place was under the giant oak
tree, sacred to their patron Thor. Boniface, in order to prove these gods powerless,
felled the tree with the stroke of an ax to the astonishment of the onlookers.
When he was asked for the word of God, Boniface proclaimed that God’s counsel was
that no blood would be spilt on the night of the birth of God’s Son, who was savior of
the world. Boniface pointed to a small, young evergreen which was close by. It signified peace because of its use in building people’s homes. The shape of the tree pointed
toward heave, and the tree’s constant greenness symbolized everlasting life. Thus,
Boniface made the evergreen the Christmas tree. People were to gather around it in
their homes, not in the woods. People would no longer give sacrifice to pagan gods.
Instead, people would receive gifts of love and the kindness of light to commemorate
the birth of the Christ Child.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES SEEKS WEST
END REGIONAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Pope Francis has called us all to “hear the cry
of the poor and to give a
voice to the cry of the
poor.” He has also
declared an Extraordinary
Jubilee Year of Mercy that
commenced December 8,
2015. What better way to answer His call than
assisting Catholic Charities in providing the
corporal works of mercy described in Matthew
Chapter 25: “Whatever you do for the least of
my brothers, that you do unto me.” Please
consider joining Catholic Charities West End
Regional Committee to develop fundraising and
awareness events for Catholic Charities.
Contact Bill and Kelly Schlegel at 896-6351 or
e-mail us [email protected] if you have a
heart for the poor, enjoy making decisions,
have a special talent or you have fundraising
skills. We need your help!
