SLEWING DRIVE GEARS
This range of reduction gears is specifically designed for pinion
and slewing ring gear drives. Simple mounting, operating
reliability and versatility make this units suitable for the most
severe duties in any types of environment. The availability of a
wide range of ratio enables the selection of motor size and
type that suits the requirements best. The design of these units
optimizes torque performance capacity and radial load capacity
while bending stresses are kept within limits to give perfect
meshing between pinion and ring gear.
Commonly used on excavators, mobile cranes, marine cranes
and as steering drives for ship propulsion systems or other
applications.
High torque capacity achieved by means of careful selection of
material, heat treatment and design of the gears calculated in
accordance with ISO standards.
The given performances are calculated according to FEM,
M5 with output speed of 15 rpm. In case of different output
speed, consult Brevini for precise evaluation at the given
condition. With Iso Brecal program we are able to make the
right selection at any torque and speed given.
Classification M5 is applicable to slewing drive of mobile cranes,
mounting cranes, floating and deck cranes and railway cranes.
Available as input fitting, hydraulically operated parking brake
alternatively, dynamic disc brake with mechanical and hydraulically operated callipers.
Ecentricity are available on most sizes, check dimensional
drawing
Contact Brevini for technical data sheets.
> Q U A L I T Y is an important element to satisfy your demands – on products
as well as on the service we provide. Therefore we have chosen to
TypeApprove all our standard series, slewdrives and winchdrives as well as
some complete winches. The approval is valid worldwide.
Together with our knowledge -we guarantee your safety.
Our production is ISO certified and we also have a complete quality-system
locally. This assure your interests in the best possible way. Regular audit and
changes are done as needed.
*Type-Approval acc. to Det Norske Veritas’ rules for Certification of
Lifting Appliancies, IMO SOLAS 1974 convention.

To switch from M5 ( T5 - L2) ratings to other FEM classification. i.e. RPR2320 i=25 torque rating according to FEM M5 ( T5 - L2) = 33830 Nm - RPR2320 i=25 torque rating according to FEM M4 ( T3 - L3) = 33830 x 1,08 = 36536 Nm
Actual torque ratings calculated by the use of the Conversion Factor Table , must always be lower than T2 Max for the relevant G'box. i.e. RPR2320 i=25 torque rating according to FEM M4 ( T3 - L3) = 36536 Nm < 42000 Nm = T2 Max

Mounting position
Mounting position is important to specify in order to fix oil plugs in the right position.
Valid for in-line units. Right-angle inputs can be provided in all sizes.

Installing the gear unit
The units must be fixed to a rigid structure and the supporting surface should be thoroughly clean, with no trace of soldering waste, at right angles to the
driving axes.
The centring and coupling surfaces of the gear unit must be clean and dent free. The measures described are essential for ensuring perfect meshing between
the gear pinion and the fifth wheel.
Teeth wheel constructors usually mark three teeth of the teeth wheel green; the point of major ovality of the pitch Ø used for positioning the gear unit.
ATTENTION: It is advisable to contact the constructors of the teeth wheel directly if there are no coloured (usually green) teeth on the teeth wheel, or other
distinguishing marks.
If the gear unit is of the type with a rest and an eccentric to regulate the clearance between the pinion and the ring gear, then there should be a notch on the
fifth wheel (see fig.) which indicates the point of major eccentricity, corresponding to the maximum meshing reached between the pinion and the fifth
wheel; whether the gear unit is placed inside or outside the fifth wheel (se fig.). The value of clearance between the sides of the pinion teeth and the fifth
wheel, is obtained by multiplying the value of the teething module by the two fixed values of 0.03 and 0.04.
Pinion data
Standard pinion are machined according to quality class 10 (UNI 7880). Class 7, 8 and 9 on request.
Asymmetric and symmetric crowning, tip relief and other corrections are made according to the specific demands for the various applications.
Pinions are case hardened up to size 150 and induction hardened from size 250 and bigger.

Lubrication
SAE J 306 ”a” gear oil at viscosity of VG 150 (SAE 90) and with EP additives is recommended for
BREVINI gear reducers. When service temperatures vary over a wide range, synthetic oil with a VG
150 or 220 viscosity class is recommended. This oil should have a minimum viscosity index of 165
and should contain EP additives. In any case, the oil selected must adequately resist oil viscosity
breakdown given the particular service conditions. The scheduling of the oil changes must be
consistent with the particular service conditions involved. Horizontally-mounted gearboxes
must be filled half-full. After a short period of operation, a visual check must be made of the oil
level. Under continuous operating conditions, the working temperature must not exceed 90°C.
In application where high speed and hig power are required, please contact BREVINI Eng.
Service Dept. for ass.
In the RPR serie, one of the support bearings must be lubricated with grease, using the grease
gun located above the gear unit attachment flange, and using a generic type of grease with the
features:
Type of soap:
Consistency:
Base oil:
Additives:
Pour point:
Stearate hydroxide lithium 12 or equivalent
NLGI no. 2
Mineral oil with viscosity from 100 to 320 cST and 40°C
Rust inhibitors
-10°C maximum
Oil Changes
The first lube oil change must be made between 50 and 100 hours of service. Subsequent oil
changes must be made after 2.500 hours of service time or at least once every 12 month.
However, the scheduling of oil changes should be in relationship with the actual operating
conditions. No sludge should be permitted to accumulate in the unit, and oil changes should be
made while the gearbox is warm. The oil level should be checked at least once a month. If
the gearbox oil level decreases by more than 10%, the unit should be carefully inspected for
leakage. Different types of oil should not be mixed even if they have the same trademark. It is
especially important to avoid mixing mineral oil with synthetic oil.
