Dear NSBC Family,
I am so very grateful for the love and many
acts of kindness shown to Richard and me
during the past two years since his ALS
diagnosis—and to me since his death.
Thank you for the Gideon Bibles donated in
his memory, for the food, the visits, the
cards, and especially the prayers on our behalf. I am incredibly blessed to be a part of
this church family. I love you all.

“Taste of the South”
Pastor’s Thoughts to You
Okay, let me tell you how it happened.
My son went to one of the Birmingham
food events, a crawfish boil, and he said
to me, “Dad, our church ought to do
this! We could put a big sign out front
that said, ‘Free Beer,’ and when people
came on campus, they could get all the
root beer they wanted!”
While our guests are tasting the food,
we have games and inflatable houses
for the kids. Our SOPA (School of Performing Arts) will perform in the fellowship hall. Our orchestra, the fine Authement kids’ singing trio, Cedar’s Gray,
and the big band Sultans of Swing will
perform under the big top.
Taste of the South is an event that has
attracted about 700 each time, many of
whom are not active in any church. On
the registration form for the drawing for
the prize, we ask: “Would you be willing
for someone from North Shelby Baptist
Church to visit to tell you about our
church’s ministry?”
I nixed the idea of a “Free Beer” sign,
but we are soon to have our third event
that we call “Taste of the South.” The
goal is to meet people, to showcase our
church, and even to plant seeds of the
Gospel.
Attendees will register to win a Big
Green Egg. Trophies for cooking, the
drawing for the grill, and a Gospel
presentation by our Revival preacher
will end the event.
Pray for the Revival meeting which begins the following morning and runs
through Wednesday evening. Pray for
souls to be saved and for our church to
be revived.
What can you do to help?
1. Pray for good weather and a good
crowd and a good witness.
2. Volunteer to help with the kids’
area or with set-up or take-down.
3. Come to the event wearing your
NSBC name tag, mingle and meet
our guests.
One of my good friends and a respected
Shelby County preacher is this year’s
evangelist, Mike Shaw. Brother Mike
served as Pastor of the First Baptist
Church of Pelham for 35 years and two
weeks. He retired last May. Mike was a
senior when Mary and I were freshmen
at Samford.
Food is the drawing card, so we need
men and families willing to cook and to
give away free samples. Judges will
impartially evaluate by categories: ribs,
pork, chicken, soup, and lagniappe
(mixed foods). We also have desserts.
Trophies will be awarded at the end.
April 16, 2015
I love you,
Brother Allan
PS: We seek administrative assistants to
help us in the church office. If you or
someone you know is interested, please
