Major News
Dear Friends,
Mark J. Batty
Chief Executive Officer
As we near Thanksgiving and the end of the year gets closer, we are reminded this past
year has been full of recognition and accomplishments. This spring, RCH was recognized by
iVantage Health Analytics, Inc. as one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) in
the country and Top 5 in Illinois. We were notified recently that we are now recognized as
the Top CAH in Illinois – a great achievement based on the efforts of our physicians and staff.
This recognition was achieved on a scoring method based on market share, patient outcomes,
financial strength and quality of care. We are extremely proud of this honor especially since it
encompasses many different facets of our organization. This recognition is based on publicly
reported data we cannot control.
A national healthcare industry publication, Becker’s Hospital Review, recognized RCH on its
list of the Top 49 Cleanest Hospitals in the country and on another occasion as one of the Top 57 Hospitals in which
the physicians “always” communicated well with their patients. This data was retrieved from the Hospital Consumer
Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, a standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’
perspectives of hospital care.
In July, we celebrated 100 years of providing healthcare services to Rochelle and the surrounding communities. We
hosted an open house with activities for all ages. All of these activities were offered as a thank you to the many loyal
supporters the hospital has had over the years.
As a small community hospital we would not be able to celebrate some of the accomplishments and offer many of the
services we do without our mutually beneficial and friendly relationships with other organizations. This past June
we collaborated with Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon to offer healthcare services in the community of Ashton,
allowing both organizations to eliminate some costs while offering the same level of service as had been previously
provided.
Our continued relationship with Midwest Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) brought the installation of a new Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine this fall to RCH. Provided by MOI, the MRI further complements the wide range of
imaging equipment already present at RCH.
RCH has provided some notable educational events to the community this past year including: February’s heart month
lecture with a Cardiologist, an Orthopaedic Lecture Series, the “Texting, Drinking and Driving” Car Reenactment event
at Rochelle Township High School, Breast Cancer Awareness events at several locations, a Diabetes Awareness Fair,
health screenings, cooking demonstrations for heart-healthy and diabetes-friendly audiences and much more!
We want you to understand every action we take is to benefit you, our customers. We feel we are doing great things
at RCH and want to give you every opportunity to experience them when you need healthcare services. Have a Happy
Thanksgiving and a memorable holiday season!
Sincerely,
Mark J. Batty
Chief Executive Officer

I’M CONFIDENT
Proof
“I’m confident the emergency team at Rochelle Community
Hospital can take care of my family because an emergency
delivery turned out to be a positive experience. It was March 28,
the due date for welcoming our child into the world. I woke up
around 5 AM with a few labor pains but they were pretty far apart
and I wasn’t even sure I was in labor. It felt nothing like what I
had experienced with my other two boys. Walking to the car, my
contractions were still five minutes apart, but the need to push
was overwhelming. One mile was all we made. I was scared that
the baby was coming too fast so we called an ambulance.”

The iVantage HealthStrong™ Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals, including RCH, scored best among CAHs on the
iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength Index™. The first-ever comprehensive rating of CAHs, the Index

Five Tips for Staying Healthy This Winter
When the mercury drops, keep your immunity rising with a few simple
strategies.
• Wash your hands often to help keep viruses and bacteria at bay;
wash palms, between fingers, under fingernails.
• Flush your nasal passage to get rid of infectious, irritating
agents that enter through the nose and thin mucous, making it
easier for the body’s natural defenses to expel.
• Stay active with regular exercise that boosts your immune
system and offers many health benefits.
• Get your sleep… give in to the desire to hibernate in cold
weather. You might even enjoy the 7 to 9 hours of shuteye that’s
recommended!
• Eat a balanced diet so that your body gets the fruits and vegetables it
needs to fight the viruses and bacteria that are more likely to attack in winter.

farther than our Love Lights! All funds raised go toward upgrading
our cardiac and bedside monitors … and they are only $7 per
name, per ornament! By the way, you can even choose to keep
the ornament yourself this year.
The upgraded monitors will record the patient’s heart
rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and oxygen
saturation both at bedside and a centralized location.
The upgrades will also allow vital signs to interface into
our current electronic medical record (EMR), giving RCH
a fully integrated EMR!
