World Class Antiques in Park Falls, Wisconsin
at Brand New Wilson’s Antiques
Article & photos by Brian Maloney
Try to guess which newely opened antiques shop I’m talking
about. It’s located in the heart of Wisconsin’s Northwoods, but
houses among the country’s finest selections of period advertising,
stoneware, toys, and much more. It’s located in a renovated old
brick building that’s served as everything from the town’s Post
Office to a Gambles Department Store. Inside, there
are thousands of treasures spread out on three floors,
from 17th century firearms to a 3,000-pound iron flywheel from a turn-of-the-century sawmill. Give up?
It’s Wilson’s Antiques - Park Falls, Wisconsin’s
newest antiques shop!
Wilson’s Antiques’ owner Mark Wilson
with one of the largest period
advertising pieces in the shop – an
8’ x12’ “Have a Coke” steel sign
featuring the Sprite Boy - $9,800.
Perfectly-restored lollipopstyle penny scale - $2,150.
Junior
Deputy
Practice Range arcade game
in fine condition - $1,800.
19th century J & E Stevens
Indian Shoots Bear mechanical
cast iron bank, looks all
original - $3,400.
Furniture highlights include
this heavily carved American
neoclassical mirrored oak
sideboard, 60” x 90” &
priced at $6,250.

SATURDAY AUGUST 24, 2013 9AM-4PM
If you’re coming to the Green Bay Convention &
happen to have some wonderful Wisconsin Breweriana
items, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Friday, August 2nd evening’s opportunity for
NABA members to drool over & view great items of
breweriana from the host state has grown into a treasured
tradition. This year the honor goes to Wisconsin & all the
super breweriana created over the past 100 years.
If you are in attendance, & would like to share
some of your prized possessions, please bring them to the
Convention for display on Friday night. This exhibition
corresponds with the Micro Beer Tasting, another tradition
of NABA that is enormously popular with the membership, & the Friday evening group dinner. Your items will
be widely shared & appreciated.
We will have tables set up in the same room as the tasting & the dinner so
what you bring will be in close proximity to you & all you fellow members.
Bring as little or as much as you want. This is a great chance to show off
some of your rarely seen acquisitions & to tell the stories of how you found them!
Contact George Bailey at 219-325-8811 or by emailing him at
[email protected]. He can direct you to Kent Newton who is person handling
all the arrangements.

Out & About
We hope that everyone had a fun filled 4th of July weekend!
The weather seemed to be on our side. We went to our local
fireworks and then the following night around our house there
is three cities that you can see. So Tia and Mekenzy wanted
to go sit out on the roof so we could get a good view. The girls
replied “doesn’t seem this high when your on the ground”.
We had a good time though, we sat up there for an hour!

Wilson’s Antiques – The Northwoods’ Newest Antiques Destination
Article & Photos by Brian Maloney
On June 15th, scenic Park Falls, Wisconsin recently welcomed its newest downtown antiques business: Wilson’s Antiques. Owner Mark Wilson spent years scouring the nation for only the best in antiques for this new venture - and a full two years
renovating the building from stem to stern. The result is one of the most impressive
antiques establishments you’ll find in the entire Midwest or beyond
As you enter Wilson’s Antiques it’s hard to miss that one-and-a-half ton iron flywheel on display in the vestibule, and the stack of humungous Red Wing Crocks of
up to 60-gallons in size just beyond. On the main floor: antique furniture from both
city and country, advertising of every description, and choice collections of everything from mechanical cast iron banks to period firearms to country stoneware.
Two-story walls soar up to the second story atrium level, covered from top-to-bottom with period gas, brewery, and soda advertising. One of the finest collections of
advertising stoneware in the country awaits at the top of the stairs, as well as pressed
steel toys by the dozen, and rare lithograph coffee, tobacco, and food tins by the hundreds. The shop is spotless & perfectly lit, with the entire inventory housed on custom-made oak shelving and cabinets.
You’ll find owner Mark Wilson or his son (and business partner) Tim on hand to
greet visitors on most days. “We strive to be among the finest antiques shops in the
country, with an inventory second-to-none, and have had plenty of shoppers from all
over who have said as much,” Mark told me, “the store is very much a family affair,
run by myself and Tim, but with plenty of help from my wife and daughters as well.”
A visit to Wilson’s Antiques would be a great excuse to get yourself out to this beautiful area of northern Wisconsin. The 90,000-acre Price County Forest boasts miles
of walking, ski, and snowmobile trails, as does the nearby 90,000-acre Flambeau
River State Forest. And if that’s not enough space to unwind, Park Falls is also headquarters for the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest – a wild & scenic landscape
with more than 600 miles of trails and an amazing 400 lakes within its boundaries.
Park Falls is just a short drive
from both the scenic Apostle
Islands and bustling Minocqua
areas.
You really should come have a
look. Wilson’s Antiques is open
year ‘round, on Monday and
Wednesday through Saturday
from 9-5, 12-5 on Sundays and
It’s hard to miss the brand-new Wilson’s
closed on Tuesdays. They’re easy Antiques as you drive through Park Falls,
to find in Park Falls, in the large Wisconsin. Right on the corner of Division
brick building at 399 Division Street and Highway 13, the historic brick
Street where it intersects with structure has been both a Post Office and
Highway 13. For directions, or department store before finding new
more information, you can give

Heritage Trail Mall
Celebrating 20th Anniversary
Heritage Trail Mall, the 70-dealer antique emporium in Wilmette, Illinois,
is celebrating its 20th Anniversary with a special sale that’s too good to miss. From
Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 21, every item in the 7000 sq. ft. building will
be reduced with all dealers taking 15% to 20% off regular-priced items. “It’s our
way of thanking our many customers who have supported us over the past two
decades,” said Joan Carlson, who along with her family owns and operates the popular mall that attracts collectors from around the country.
There will literally be thousands of items at bargain prices. This includes
everything from furniture, vintage jewelry, books and paintings to antique linens,
silver, decorative arts, crystal, miniatures, humorous pieces and more. Deco,
Nouveau, Victorian, Americana, Asian, Modernism and the 50’s are all represented.
As part of the Anniversary Celebration, Heritage Trail is announcing the
creation of a Consignment Shop within the mall. “This shop within a shop is our
way to continuously update the business and provide new opportunities for our
clientele,” said Carlson. It is scheduled to open in the fall.
On Chicago’s North shore since 1993, Heritage Trail is housed in a turn-ofthe-century dry goods store with adjoining stable. The award-winning business is
located at 410 Ridge Road in Wilmette, Illinois, just minutes from the expressway.
It is conveniently open daily from 11-5:30, Saturdays from 10-5:30 and Sundays
from 12-5. Phone 847-256-6208 or visit www.heritagetrailmall.com.

21st Annual Kalamazoo Airgun Show & Daisy Get Together
This show started 21 years ago with a few
Daisy bb gun collectors in the backyard of Bob
Surface’s home in Swartz Creek, Michigan. It has
grown over the years and now boasts over 100 tables of
bb guns, airguns of all makes and models, and toy guns.
The name of the show has been changed this year to the
Kalamazoo Airgun Show & Daisy Get Together to better describe that the show welcomes all types of airguns
from antique to modern. This show is a wonderful
informative gathering of collectors, friends and good
times. Last year collectors from approximately 16
states attended the show. Every year the show has been
sold out, and the managers expect the same this year.
In addition to the approximately 100 tables of airguns, bb and toy guns for sale each year we try to feature
a special airgun model or maker. This year the featured
maker is the Columbian Air Rifles. Columbian air rifles
for the most part are large, heavy, impressive looking guns
with cast iron receivers. The receivers are very ornate
with various animals, names, floral patterns and sometimes the date of the year the model came out cast into
them. The first of the “Columbians” came out in 1892 and
were marked Bailey Air Rifle. The last cast iron frame
model is the 1908. Most of the Columbian guns had
“Japan black” receivers and nickel plated barrels. Models
with nickeled receivers are rare and very desirable. The
model marked 1900 in the frame is the most common of
the Columbian guns. About 1910 the company began producing all sheet metal guns which were marked Heilprin
and the cast iron frame construction guns were discontinued. The sheet metal guns were produced until the early
1920s. Columbian and Heilprin guns are fun to collect
because they have so many models and variations and are
so unusual looking.
Another special event on Sunday will be hosted by Dan Lerma and his family from Findlay, Ohio.
They will be hosting a Slingshot Shoot with local Boy
Scouts ….shooting targets with paintballs. The shoot
will be open to the public and to the Boy Scouts. This
event will be free and will be located outside the Airgun
Show from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come join them for
some fun with a chance to win a prize.
The show will once again be held at the
Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds Expo Center. This
8,500 square foot hall is wonderful with its great lighting, ample parking and its easy access off I-94 is an
added bonus.
The host hotel will be the Country Inn & Suites
located on 1912 East Kilgore Street, Kalamazoo (exit
#78) The phone number is 269-382-2303… please
mention the Daisy bb and toy gun show to get the spe-
cial rate. We will continue our Saturday evening reception tradition. Please join us in the hotel’s reception room around 7:30 p.m. for this event…a great time
to relax and renew friendships.
Kalamazoo is a town with many fun things to
do. They have the “Air Zoo” aviation museum,
Kalamazoo Nature Center, The Crossroads Mall, St
Julian Winery, Gilmore Car Museum and much more.

event.
The show will be held at the Kalamazoo
County Fairground Expo Center, Kalamazoo Michigan
on Sunday, August 18th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission is $3. (Admission for early buyers at 7:30
a.m. will be $25) Admission for children under 12 is

show. Maggie & other puppy handlers, have been
rewarded with Thank You letters from all over the
world from the visually impaired who are so happy
with their leader dogs. Russell Sunstrom of the
