April 24, 2016
Happy Easter! We are about half way through our Easter season. I pray that
the news of Christ's resurrection is still burning in your heart!
We are fast approaching more exciting happenings in our parish. Next
weekend, April 30th and May 1st, is First Communion weekend. We will have
about forty of our young people receiving Jesus for the first time. How exciting
for them and for their families. May they be touched in a very special way as
they receive Jesus this first time and every time they receive Jesus in the
Eucharist. May each of us reflect on what a special blessing it is to be able to
receive Jesus inside of us. Please include these children in your prayers this
week.
The following Sunday, May 8th, is Confirmation Sunday. Bishop Hoeppner
will be here to confirm close to forty of our teenagers. This is another special
time in the lives of our young people of the parish. They will be sealed with the
gifts of the Holy Spirit as they are anointed with the Holy Chrism by the
Bishop. Please pray for them as well, that they will be open to what the Holy
Spirit has in store for them.
Next Saturday, April 30th, is also the date of another exciting happening taking
place in the Diocese of Crookston. Matthew James Schmitz will be ordained to
the Sacred Order of Deacons. His ordination to the Diaconate will take place in
his home parish of St. Joseph's in Red Lake Falls. Deacon Matt will then, in
mid May, be coming here to St. Philip's to work with us for the summer. I look
forward to his presence with us and I pray that you will welcome him to St.
Philip's and will thank him for his service to the church. He will minister with
us until early August when he will return to the seminary for his final year of
formation before being ordained to the priesthood next spring.
May God bless each of you as you live out what God has called you to in your
earthly lives and may he then bring us all safely to heaven for eternity.

“Calling all Extroverts!
You’re invited to join a new ministry at St. Philip’s. We’re
creating an Information Station (kiosk) where visitors and
parishioners can stop by to pick-up or drop off registration
forms, event calendars, visitor envelopes, prayer requests, etc.
This kiosk will need to be staffed before and after weekend
masses. You do not need to be an expert on all of the
happenings at St. Philip’s to volunteer. Training will be provided
in May. Volunteers will be able to select Mass times that work
best for their schedules. If you’re willing to help out, please
contact the parish office. Thank you for considering this
welcoming ministry.”

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL
Many dioceses right here in the United States do not have
enough priests and trained lay ministers to serve their parishes.
These dioceses are known as home missions. The Catholic
Home Missions Appeal, which will take place this weekend in
the second collection, supports these dioceses by funding
essential ministries, including seminary education and lay
ministry training. Please be generous in this appeal and share
your resources to strengthen the Church at home.
Join us on Tuesday, April 26 at 7:00 PM
as Bishop Michael Hoeppner will be
speaking about Pope Francis’ book “The
Name of God is Mercy.” It will be an
evening of reflection on Mercy! “Mercy is
the first attribute of God. The name of
God is mercy. There are no situations we
cannot get out of, we are not condemned to sink into
quicksand.” ~Pope Francis
Contact the Parish Office for additional information.
On Saturday, April 30, the Gym and Social Hall
will be open to all families with young
children from 9 to 11 AM. This is an opportune
time for parents and their children to get to
know one another in the comfort of their own
parish home! Stay & Play will take place the
last Saturday of each month, unless otherwise noted due to

DEVELOPMENT~STEWARDSHIP
STEWARDSHIP IN LITURGY
Every week during Mass the Priest prays, “Let us give thanks to
the Lord, our God.” We respond, “It is right and just.” Let’s
think about what we are saying. We believe that God is the
Master who owns everything and generously allows us, the
stewards, to use certain things during our life’s journey. From a
practical standpoint, it’s easy to get “hung up” on the concept
of God as the owner of all things. It’s easier to view God as the
creator rather than the owner. Some might respond, “After all,
don’t we work hard to provide for our families?” Here we must
recognize that the very talents and abilities we use to make a
living - including life itself - are also God’s gifts! The next time
you are at Mass, thank God for the talents and abilities he has
given you. Ask him to show you how and where to use your
talents for His great glory.

THOUGHTS ON MERCY…
“What will the years ahead bring us? What will man’s future
on earth be like? We are not given to know. However, it is
certain that in addition to new progress there will
unfortunately be no lack of painful experiences. But the light
of Divine Mercy… will illumine the way for the men and

ROSARY CONVOCATION
MARK YOUR CALENDAR! In preparation for next year's 100th
Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, a Rosary
Convocation will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Our Lady’s
Shrine, Old Crossing Treaty Park, in Huot, MN. The evening
begins at 5:00pm with the Rosary, followed by the Holy Mass, a
meal, and fellowship. You are encouraged to begin preparing
for this celebration by fulfilling the First Saturday Devotions. For
more information call Therese Warmus (701-739-9406).
I first want to thank you for all of your dedication to your very
important ministry of bringing Jesus to the sick. You play such
an important evangelistic role for the Church, and you should
be very proud of your work! Secondly, we have a few
reminders for you as you continue your important ministry.
1) Only use the chapel for your EMHC Care giving needs.
Please do not use the Sacristy. If you have any questions about
how to access the chapel, please contact Aana Freihammer or
one of the priests, and we will be happy to assist.
2) Please do not run any other errands when you are bringing
Jesus with you on visits. Once you are done visiting the sick,
and you still have consecrated hosts in the pyx, return Jesus to
the tabernacle using the key from the chapel.
In 1962, Saint Gianna Beretta Molla died after giving birth
to her fourth child. A physician herself, she understood the
risks of her pregnancy, but refused abortion.
Some questioned her decision, given that she already had
three children. However, nothing would have harmed those
children more than if she had aborted their sister, and nothing
blessed them more than the example of a mother who gave her
life for her child. PRAYER: Saint Gianna, pray for us, that we
may imitate your selfless love. Pro-Life Reflections for Every
Day by Fr. Frank Pavone
I shall accept whatever they will do to me provided they
save the child. ~St. Gianna Molla
