CATERER’S RESPONSIBILITIES
We offer a creative venue for a wide variety of special events. Due to the unique
nature of the building and its operations, we’d appreciate that all our catering
partners adhere to the following conditions:
Rental Equipment and Supplies
All rental equipment and supplies are to be delivered to the loading bay before 10am on the
day of the event (including Saturdays and Sundays). Any deliveries after 10am must use the
bus lay-by lane in front of the building and all items must be hand-trucked in. Science World
assumes no responsibility for checking or counting items or ensuring their safety.
Teardown must occur immediately after the event and all rental or decor items removed from
the building. If this is not possible, arrangements can be made to have the rental items left
overnight in the loading bay. However, they must be picked up the following morning
(including Saturdays and Sundays) between 8:30am and 10am.
Move in and Clean up
Setup of events shall not begin prior to Science World’s closing time, unless by special
permission of the Facility Rentals Department. Closing time is 5pm Monday through Friday.
Closing time is 6pm on weekends, holidays and during spring, summer and Christmas breaks.
At the end of the event, it is the responsibility of the caterers to conduct a thorough clean up
of all the areas used. All exhibit and public areas must be clear and clean for the next day’s
activities. Prep room floors must be swept and mopped and garbage removed from our
premises. We will provide cleaning supplies.
Caterers will be charged for any costs incurred by Science World for unusual clean ups such as
shampooing major stains on the carpet, removal of garbage left behind or any damages done
to the premises.
Floor Mats and Covering
All bars, meat carving and coffee stations, temporary kitchen and clearing stations set up on the
carpeted area must have protective mats and floor coverings placed beneath and around them.
Garbage
All garbage from areas where food has been prepared and served, must be bagged and taken away
at the end of the event. Science World will supply replacement bags for the cans. If Science World’s
dumpster is used and requires an extra pick up, the caterer will be invoiced for this. The dumpster
outside the Triple O’s loading bay is NOT to be used, as it belongs to the café operator.
Signage and Decor
All signage and decor brought in must be free standing. It is prohibited to attach signage or decor
to exhibits or walls. No helium balloons are allowed. Only air-filled balloons are permitted. Use of
confetti and sparklers is prohibited. There is a restriction on the number of candles that can be
used on tables. Relocation of exhibits is prohibited unless previously agreed to by Science World.
Parking
Only the supply van may be parked outside the assigned area during the event. All other vehicles
found parked around the building will be towed. Catering staff vehicles can be parked in the
paid parking lots in front of the building or in the staff parking lot located south of the building,
with prior approval from the Science World staff in charge.

FILM OPTIONS

Everest
Visit the top of the world in this dramatic film produced in association with Science World.
Everest takes you on an inspirational and spellbinding ascent with an international team
of climbers who found hope, beauty and triumph in the wake of tragedy. The film tells the
dramatic true story of the expedition’s journey to the summit, just days after the infamous
1996 tragedy in which eight climbers lost their lives.
Super Speedway
Super Speedway focuses on rising star Michael Andretti, his legendary father Mario Andretti
and the work of Don Lyons—a restorer of vintage racing machines. The film follows the design,
fabrication and track testing of Michael’s car while exploring the technology and physics
that will optimize the car’s performance. As Michael’s car is readied for the racing season,
Don Lyons works steadfastly at reconstructing a vintage roadster out of an intriguing
wreckage he has discovered in a dilapidated chicken coop. Only in time does the puzzle
come together and the machine’s illustrious identity becomes known.
The Living Sea
Filled with exotic creatures and seafaring adventures, The Living Sea focuses on the fragile
relationships between the ocean, its inhabitants and people. Surf thundering waves in Hawaii,
swim with thousands of golden jellyfish, meet strange creatures living 3,000 feet below
sea level, come face to face with humpback whales and witness the bizarre spawning
behaviour of giant clams. The Living Sea uses powerful and beautiful images of unspoiled
waters to demonstrate our dependence on healthy oceans. This film features songs and
music by Sting and is narrated by Meryl Streep. (Nominated in 1996 at the Academy Awards
for Best Documentary, Short Subjects).
Pulse: a STOMP Odyssey
Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey is a celebration of the global beat. It explores the sights and sounds of
continents and cultures, guided by the internationally acclaimed performers of the sensational
stage show, STOMP. Audiences will travel to a world brought brilliantly alive through this largescreen format and will discover the universal language of rhythm.
BEAVERS
Beavers was the first film to be shown in Science World’s OMNIMAX® Theatre, in 1989.
Plunge into the habitat of one of nature’s greatest engineers for an intimate look at a family
of beavers as they grow, play and transform the world around them.
