“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send
in my name, will teach you everything and remind
you of all that I told you.” John 14:26
The materialism of our society lures us to concentrate
more on what we want than on what God wants for us.
The relativism of our world tells us that we should be
tolerant of all things, that there is no absolute truth. Pray
to the Holy Spirit to put the right words in our mouths
when challenged about our faith.

THANK YOU FROM ST. DOMINIC
CATHOLIC CHURCH IN GARDEN CITY
On behalf of St. Dominic Catholic Church out here in Garden
City I would like to thank Father Tom and his “teams” for
enabling us to make the men’s and women’s Christ Renews
His Parish retreat this past February and March. It was
wonderful! Our folks came back enthused enough to help us
initiate the experience here in the Fall. The “seed” is planted
in our parish, and may be planted in other parishes in our
diocese, the Diocese of Dodge City. Blessings on all that
goes on in your parish, especially as you celebrate the
Solemnity of the Ascension and your 25th Anniversary. We
just celebrated our 50th! The pastor of your “sister” parish in
Southwest Kansas, Father Reginald A. Urban

Duchesne Clinic is a primary care doctor's office for lowincome uninsured residents of Wyandotte County. Often
referred to as a "safety-net" clinic, Duchesne Clinic provides
the same services as most family doctors in a welcoming,
compassionate environment. The difference, of course, is
that our patients have no insurance, not even Medicaid or
Medicare, and no way to pay for their care. Our services
include: primary health care, medication assistance and
chronic disease management. As safety net clinics, we
provide primary health care, chronic disease management
and medication assistance to very low-income uninsured
residents of Wyandotte County. Current needs identified:
(generic brands are just fine) only, new sealed, unexpired
meds please: Ibuprofen, Benadryl, antifungal cream,
Hydrocortisone cream, antibiotic ointment, Loratadine,
allergy meds, Aleve and aspirin.

Camp Invention provides an opportunity for inventive young

ways they do not normally get to in the classroom. Program
participants do not realize they are learning and developing
new skills as they build prototypes, take things apart, explore
different types of technology and so much more.
While you are doing your spring cleaning, please keep our
garage sale dates in mind. Thank you!

DESPERATE NEED FOR GARAGE SALE VOLUNTEERS
HELP!!!
The Garage Sale Team is in desperate need of
folks to chair some of our most important areas!
Please read on:
Chairperson in charge of Heavy Pick Up: This individual or individuals
need(s) to schedule and coordinate the pick up of all our heavy items
(furniture, etc.). These items are the “bread and butter” of our sale and
provide the bulk of our revenue. With the sale less than a month away
THIS POSITION NEEDS TO BE FILLED ASAP!!! Please note the former
Chair will walk you through the procedures and give you the blueprint for
success!!!
Chairperson for Clothing: This individual or individuals need(s) to set
up/coordinate/display all the clothing items donated to the sale (with the
help of volunteers of course). The clothing area is by far the largest area
of the sale and is thus one of the greatest challenges. It is also one of
the greatest money makers and thus a huge priority and blessing. This
lends itself well to a team who wants to overachieve! THIS IS AN
EXTREME NEED!!! As noted above the former Chair will give you the
blueprint for success!!! You are not reinventing the wheel or starting
from ground zero!!!
Should we be unable to fill these positions the sale will be in real
jeopardy as will all the ministries we fund with the proceeds of the sale.
We need for you to HELP! PLEASE!!!
For more information or to join the team please contact Darleen Porch at
[email protected] or Judy Arnold at [email protected].

WEEKLY PRAYER
Pentecost Sunday
Teach and Remind
Baptisms
I'm not very good at telling jokes. I like them, but after I hear
one and laugh at it, I let it go and forget it. I suspect this
doesn't just apply to jokes. The Gospel today hints that the
disciples may have had the same weakness when Jesus says
the Spirit will "teach you everything and remind you of all
that I told you" (John 14:26).
Jesus spent three years teaching his disciples about the
kingdom of God. While he may have condensed his message
to "Love God . . . and love your neighbor as yourself" (Mark
12:30-31), he spent most of his time showing them how much
God loves them and how to love their neighbor. He used
parables as examples and miracles as signs of the Father's
love. He answered their questions and explained things
privately. Knowing that this would still not be enough, he
promised to send the Spirit after he had risen. He seems to
have known that sometimes you just can't learn by listening.
You have to experience some things to understand them.
Sometimes you have to explain something to someone else
before you understand it yourself. And that is what the
disciples would do.
When they received the Spirit after Jesus' resurrection, they
began to talk about Jesus to anyone who would listen. They
also began to do the things Jesus talked about. They fed the
poor and healed the sick. Thus they began to experience Jesus
in those around them. They would remember what Jesus had
taught them and apply it in their lives. They even accepted
suffering for their faith.
We too can receive that promise from Jesus to have the Spirit
teach and remind us. As we share our faith with others, we
begin to experience Jesus in them. Just talking about our faith
helps it to grow. As we listen to the Lord in prayer, we are
reminded of passages in the Bible that we have read or heard
from the altar on Sunday. We begin to understand how they
apply in our lives. We may remember things that seemed to
be very bad but turned out to be God's plan--maybe losing a
job, only to find a better one; or moving away from friends,
only to make new friends later. May the Holy Spirit teach and
remind us of the signs of God's love.

SCHOOL
The end of the school year is upon us, and that means the
school is buzzing with all kinds of excitement. The eighth
graders participated in a Volleyball game against the staff,
they had their class trip to Worlds of Fun, prayed together
at their last all school Mass at ACS, and graduated with
pride this past Friday. Our little ones hosted Mother’s Day
Teas for their moms, had field day on a beautiful sunny day
and went on field trips to all sorts of fun places. In
addition, 1-4 grade entertained us with their music and
movement showcase! Let us not forget our second graders
who all participated in their First Communion Mass and
had their very own talent show. As you can see, ACS is
busy, busy, busy at the end of the year having fun and
exploring our God-given talents. We hope everyone has a
blessed summer, and we hope to see you at Sunday
Masses.
