MIDDLESEX WEST | CHAMBER
Letter from the Executive Director
– It’s more than just business
Every now and then I get a call from a real
go-getter who starts the conversation with, “How
many businesses with (X) number of employees
are in your chamber?” They plainly sell to
businesses and want to come in and sell as
much as possible and then move on to the next
chamber. I usually politely tell them, “This is not
the chamber for you.”
I further explain, if they are interested in
continuing the conversation (they usually want to
tell me I’m getting the wrong impression about
them), that our membership is a community: they
know each other, they are collaborative, they
know that a healthy neighborhood means a
healthy business, they are interested in the
success of others not threatened by it. They are
involved in the Chamber as well as many other
organizations in and around our towns. It’s more
than just business.
I continue, telling them, “I want a member
who will be involved, get to know people,
join a committee and stick around for a few
(10 or so) years.”
President’s Message
It’s all about people. It’s all about relationships.
Business is personal. It’s about people working
with people. When you think community, you
think neighbor helping neighbor. The Middlesex
West Chamber of Commerce is a business
community helping each business prosper.
The Chamber offers a fantastic structure to
form and strengthen business relationships. We
are a non-profit professional organization
promoting area businesses. Even if you are a
non-profit organization, you can enhance your
visibility through Chamber membership.
Sponsoring more than 80 events in a calendar
year, the Chamber enables you to consistently
meet and interact with other businesses and
business professionals.
We have events for everyone at all times of
the day! Monthly evening dine-arounds provide
networking opportunities with a causal social
twist, while highlighting the hosting member’s
business. Evenings inconvenient for you? The
monthly morning breakfast events serve the
same purpose. Ribbon cuttings welcome and
spotlight new businesses within our community.
Educational events address topics relevant to
running and growing your business.
At some point in the
call, I invite them to attend
a few meetings. “If you get
to know the members and
make the same
connections a few months
in a row, you’ll immediately
feel welcomed and then
begin to make the
relationships that will make
the difference for you and Sarah Fletcher
your business.”
Executive Director
People do business
with people they know, like
and trust – you get to know them by coming out
to networking events and connecting with them
again and again, over time.
Get to know the members of the Middlesex
West Chamber; you’ll enjoy getting to know them
as well as doing business with them.
In this directory you’ll find members of the
Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce. Many
live locally as well as own a locally-based
business; all have a vested interest in the area
and are great supporters of the community.
It’s a pleasure doing business with them!
Young and looking to grow and improve your
business acumen? YP Connect provides young
professionals with networking and educational
programs - even us older professionals are
occasionally welcome! The Professional
Women’s Network facilitates discourse concerning
topics unique to professional women and women
led businesses. The Business Builders, a referral
and development group, tackles relevant
business issues, while promoting referrals
amongst its members. If this is not enough, there
are also the periodic marquee events.
In the end, it’s about people. We offer tools
and opportunities to empower our members to
connect and grow their businesses. As you
review this member directory, you will see
businesses with whom you would like to connect.
You might think, “I could really
use this service or product.”
Or perhaps, “I could really be
of service to this Chamber
member.” Others looking
through the directory will have
the same thoughts. The
members in this directory
realize this value. I realize this
value! Shouldn’t you be a
member in this directory too? Richard Mandel, Esq.

WELCOME
experienCe our COMMUNITIES
The Chamber of Commerce welcomes you to
the towns of Acton, Boxborough, Carlisle,
Concord, Littleton, Maynard, Stow and Westford.
These eight Middlesex West communities are
within commuting distance of Massachusetts’
major cities including Boston, Lowell and
Worcester. The extensive history, beautiful nature
offerings and vibrant business community make
this area perfect for those looking to raise a
family, live outside the city or open a business.
While most of these communities started as
rural farming towns with history dating back to the
formation of the country, today they look much
different. While trying to maintain some
semblance of their rural roots, most of these
towns have been suburban communities. Due to
the location of these towns near major routes
including I-495, I-93 and Route 128, most are
used as commuter havens. These towns offer
easy access to the city of Boston as well as many
MBTA rail stops for public transportation into the
city or farther west.
Although largely residential, this area has also
become a hub for businesses of all types with its
thriving consumer base and investment in
development. The towns of Westford, Littleton and
Maynard in particular are home to major high-tech
businesses and many start-ups fill out the industrial
parks. Commercial businesses prosper with many
high-income residents to frequent them.
Residents of all of these towns will find
endless opportunities for entertainment to foster a
high quality of life. These eight towns are full of
rich history and beautiful natural settings perfect
for singles of growing families to keep busy.
Mountains and lakes supply endless ways to get
outdoors, while the history of the American
Revolution and literature provide educational
opportunities in your backyard.
Whether you are looking for your family or
your business to call home, the towns of Acton,
Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, Littleton,
Maynard, Stow and Westford will surely have
everything you need.

MIDDLESEX WEST | WELCOME
ACTON
Located in the center of the Middlesex West
region, Acton is a logical choice for prospective
residents and businesses looking in settle in this
area. Acton is a suburban community offering
tons of entertainment options and commercial
businesses to its residents in several small towncenter like hubs. Commuters will find easy
access to Routes 2, 27, 111 and I-495 and a
commuter rail stations located in town. With a
quality regional education system shared with
Boxborough, Acton often places high on the list
of the best places to live in the country.
BOXBOROUGH
Boxborough is a small, rural community that
still offers easy access to I-495 and Route 111.
Those looking to enjoy the outdoors will love
Boxborough’s maintenance of open and wooded
spaces. The town continues to value its rich
history and maintains many of the feeling of its
rural, agricultural roots while enjoying the benefits
of a shared school system with Acton. With less
than 5,000 residents, those moving to
Boxborough will find a cozy place to call home.
CARLISLE
Those looking for the quaintness of a rural
New England farming community should look no
further than Carlisle. Nearly a third of the town’s
land in protected as conservation land, creating a
scenic place for its residents to call home.
Among the farmland and untouched woods is the
region’s only working cranberry bog. Despite the
quaintness of the town, it is only a short drive
from Boston. The town boasts a commitment to
all of its residents, including offering the young
ones a quality education with their elementary
school system and regional high school shared
with neighboring Concord.
LITTLETON
Littleton is a mainly residential community
with a growing business sector. With rural roots,
Littleton maintains some of their open space
while allowing for suburban sprawl. There is
growing business development in town as the
interchange of Route 119 and I-495 is being
improved and space for commercial businesses
is being created. IBM, one of the largest hightech companies in the country, also opened a
base in town a few years ago.
MAYNARD
Although geographically the smallest of all of
these communities, Maynard is a bustling
residential community with a history of industrial
development. The downtown area is full of
restaurants, shops and other services just
minutes from Clock Tower Place, the transformed
mill that houses over 70 businesses of all sizes.
The Clock Tower also offers its own piece of
history as it contains the oldest working, handwound clock in the country. Outside of the busy
downtown area, the rest of the town is mostly
suburban and a bit rural.
STOW
Stow, located midway between Boston and
Worcester, is a small residential community with
much open space to give it a rural feel. Area
residents flock to town to enjoy the many apple
orchards in the picturesque New England fall
season. With four major golf courses and 81 total
holes, Stow is a haven for golfers from across
the state. Located on Routes 117 and 62 with
easy access to I-495, Stow is perfect for the
commuter looking for a small town feel.
WESTFORD
CONCORD
Concord is a picturesque New England
community with a rich history and beautiful
landscape. Walden Pond offers not only trails
and water activities, but also the homes of
famous authors Henry David Thoreau, Louisa
May Alcott and Ralph Waldo Emerson. You can
come ponder the meaning of life on the same
pond as Thoreau and visit the homes of those
who made literary history. As one of the first
towns in Massachusetts, Concord honors this
history through preserving the homes of its
famous residents and offering museums detailing
its role in the American Revolution. Concord also
offers a rich business community and is home to
the region’s only hospital. With easy access to
m wcoc.com
Route 2 and multiple commute rail stations,
Concord is the quintessential commuter town.
Westford is a wealthy suburb of Boston that
hosts a bevy of technology businesses.
Business continues to boom with major, and
some smaller, companies making homes in the
industrial parks and many suburban retail shops
benefitting from the upper-middle class residents
who have decided to reside here. Hosting the
area’s only skiing destination and number of
apple orchards, Westford can certainly be noted
for its natural beauty. Historically, the town
economy ran off of farms and woolen mills, but
today is a bedroom community with a variety of
industrial parks to house the high technology
businesses that aim to be located within the
Route 128 belt.

LEISURE
riCh in HISTORY
With a rich history and beautiful natural
settings, the Middlesex West region offers endless
entertainment to its residents. Whether looking
for family-friendly fun or ways stay fit outdoors,
residents will have many options close to home.
Outdoor recreation can easily be found year
round in this area. Residents can take full
advantage of the snowy New England winter by
hitting the slopes at Nashoba Valley Ski Area in
Westford. The mountain doubles as a great fall
spot as well with their Halloween theme park
Witches’ Woods that runs in October. New
England’s other famous season, fall, can be fully
enjoyed at the region’s many apple orchards
where leaf-peeping can be done while enjoying
hot apple cider. The summer heat can be beat in
the water at Walden Pond in Concord, Lake
Boon in Stow or with an ice cream at the familyfriendly Kimball Farms locations in Carlisle and
Westford, which also offer mini-golf and bumper
boats for families to enjoy. After a winter in
hibernation residents can easily find ways to get
outside come spring. The general splendor in
these largely rural towns provides a number of
ways to enjoy the outdoors. The Bruce Freeman
Rail Trail, a portion of which runs through Acton,
is another spot active residents can get out to
run, bike, roller skate or more. There are also
many nature trails and hikes in the area
surrounding Walden Pond and in the state parks
located in this area, including the Minuteman
National Historic Park in Concord and Great
Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle.
Beyond simply enjoying the natural beauty,
those who enjoy golfing in the outdoors will find
seemingly endless options in these towns. Many
golf lovers flock to Stow, a town with four golf
courses totally 81 holes, to enjoy their sport.
They can also find country clubs in nearly all of
these communities, including 18-hole courses in
Acton and Westford. There are a variety of options,
including different challenge levels for the novice
or advanced golfers and private, semi-private or
public courses, for whatever golfers are looking for.
Many of these communities offer their own
taste of history, with museums and hot spots
remembering great American authors and the
Revolutionary War. Walden Pond served as the
inspiration for Henry David Thoreau and many
other literary greats as well. Louisa May Alcott
and Ralph Waldo Emerson also resided here
and the homes of all three can be visited easily.
Other historical attractions in Concord include the
Old North Bridge, Orchard House, the Old
Manse, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and the
Concord Museum that chronicles the Battle of
Lexington and Concord. History isn’t the only
subject housed in area museums as the town of
Acton houses Discovery Museums focused on
science that has several locations, including one
offering only children’s programs. In Westford,
the Butterfly Place provides an environment for
the fluttering creatures that area residents can
view. Other area indoor activities include the
Acton Bowladrome & Arcade and skating rinks in
Boxborough and Westford.

help make medical services easily accessible to
all in the region. Between the two locations, a full

obstetrics, pediatrics, behavioral health,

high-tech hospital also utilizes advanced

ECONOMY
properouS & THRIVING
These Middlesex towns are home to a
thriving business community that includes
companies of all sizes. These towns started out
as rural farming communities when they were
founded, then most became mill towns during the
Industrial Revolution. Today, these communities
outside of Boston yet in close proximity to have
become the hub for many high-tech businesses,
including startups and large companies.
The towns of Littleton, Maynard and
Westford contain most of the area’s larger,
industrial businesses. The other towns offer
quaint centers with thriving commercial
businesses aided by some tourism in the area.
While some of these towns are largely residential
or rural, they still offer a healthy consumer
population that is attractive to businesses of any
size. Most of these towns have a number of uppermiddle class residents with expendable income
to boost both small and larger businesses.
Maynard has made use of their industrial
history by transforming the mill in the center of
the town to the Clock Tower Place, where
Monster.com and over 70 other technology
businesses of all sizes have decided to make a
home. The Clock Tower is just minutes away
from Maynard center, which offers the
businesses and its employees a variety of
restaurants, banks, pharmacies and more.
m wcoc.com
There are many major high-tech companies
that call Westford home, including Samsung and
Seagate. Puma also has a headquarters in this
town. The variety of industrial parks has also
opened up opportunities for smaller companies
as well. Westford, one of the larger and wealthier
communities in this area, also boasts a number
of successful suburban retail shops.
Littleton is shaking off its agricultural roots
and becoming a new center for businesses in the
area. Just a few years ago the town become
home to IBM’s New England Corporate Center,
one of the many large technology companies to
settle in this region. The town of Littleton recently
won a nearly $2 million grant from the state,
which, combined with some private investment,
will improve the Route 119/I-495 interchange.
Besides improving IBM’s access to I-495, the
project will also create a massive commercial
complex on 90 acres of land just off the highway.
Business in this region continues to grow as
development projects like the one in Littleton
seeks to provide new facilities for companies
interested in relocating or expanding existing
offices. The thriving residential communities would
be welcome homes for employees of any company
looking to relocate and offers a bevy of customers
for any commercial business looking to open.
