LETTER FROM THE
INTERIM PRESIDENT
Dear Friends,
It is my pleasure to thank you for your generous support of the College of Staten
Island, and present you with the 2012-2013 Honor Roll of Donors.
Because of donors like you, the College of Staten Island is currently celebrating a number
of successes, such as the opening of Dolphin Cove, our first-ever student residence halls;
the initiation of the planning stage for the construction of the CUNY Interdisciplinary
High-Performance Computing Center, which has already begun to address pressing problems
on the Island, such as the prediction of severe weather events like Superstorm Sandy,
as well as remedies for traffic congestion; the recent opening of a Nursing SIMS Lab
for elder care; and the continued expansion of academic programs and research spaces
on campus.
These accomplishments are also gaining attention nationwide, as the College was recently
named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Northeast Public Colleges.
With your continued partnership with the College, we will build upon these
achievements and undertake new initiatives, further refining our College as a stateof-the-art institution of higher learning in New York City and the U.S., serving our
students, our faculty, our community, and our world through research that expands
our knowledge and understanding of the critical issues that face our society.

CSI is the only public institution of higher

I take great pride in seeing the wonderful
achievements of our students and faculty,
and I believe that you should feel that
same pride, as you are helping to make
those successes a reality. I am also grateful

CLASS OF 2013 RAISES THE BAR
FOR SENIOR CLASS GIFT SUPPORT
Although the Class of 2013 was the third consecutive CSI graduating class to solicit support for
a legacy gift to the College, the Class has the proud distinction of garnering the most donors
and dollars raised to date.
This success can be largely attributed to the first-ever Class Gift Committee comprised of student
volunteers who worked diligently to promote this new initiative, under the guidance of the
Office of Institutional Advancement and External Affairs. The students worked tirelessly to raise
awareness about the importance of student philanthropy, through soliciting donations from
their peers and creating a video that was produced and musically scored by the Committee,
which was featured on the CSI Website.

By the end of its campaign, the 2013 Class Gift initiative produced 151 gifts totaling $2,347.
To give this some context, the 2012 efforts produced 27 gifts and $570, while our first year (2011)
resulted in 16 gifts and $240.
