VIRTUAL VISITS: “Ancient Entertainment.” Michael Norris offers you a virtual front row seat at ancient Greek
and Roman sports events, theater performances, chariot races and gladiator
contests. Sponsored by the Friends of

MAD DOGS & ENGLISHMEN: Professor Val Franco presents this four-part
film series of English (and Irish) comedies and dramas. Tonight: Greenfingers (2000-91 min.). Helen Mirren, Clive
Owen and David Kelly star in the true
story of love, friendship, honor, gardening and prison. Joel Hershman
scripted and directed this comedy.
Recommended for adults. 7:30 p.m.

EXERCISE FOR OVER 50. The lottery
format has been suspended for this
next series of classes. Registration begins today at 9 a.m., at the Information
Desk, and will proceed until both classes are filled. The chair class, with Nicole
Asselta, is on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. from
September 27 through November 15.
The mat class, with Donna Harrigan, is
on Thursdays at 9 a.m. from September
29 through November 17. Payment of
$30 (cash or check) for each class is due
at registration.
CHESS. Join us for a game! Tuesdays in
August from 2 to 4 p.m.
ADULT COLORING. Tuesdays in August.
It’s just like coloring for kids, but more
complex—it’s definitely harder to stay
in the lines. Meetings will be relaxed
and informal; they’re great for stress

“HELLO, MY NAME IS DORIS” (201590 min.). When sixty-something Doris
Miller (Sally Field) meets thirty-something John Fremont (Max Greenfield),
sparks fly -- at least for Doris. When Doris begins showing up at John’s regular haunts, she wins over his Williamsburg friends. Her new life brings Doris
a thrilling perspective, but also creates
a rift between her and her longtime
friends and family, who believe she’s
making a fool of herself over a guy half

to pursue their arch-nemesis, the Red
Baron, while Charlie Brown (Noah
Schnapp) begins his own epic quest to
win the love of his life, the Little RedHaired Girl (Francesca Capaldi). Steve
Martino’s animated feature was scripted by Craig Schulz (son of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz), Bryan Schulz
(Charles’s grandson) and Cornelius

AFTERNOON ON BROADWAY: “Chita
Rivera.” Marc Courtade discusses the
dancer, actress and singer who has
been a Broadway fixture for over 50
years. She was catapulted to stardom
in 1957 as Anita in West Side Story. This
was followed by such memorable roles
as Rosie in Bye Bye Birdie, Velma Kelly in
Chicago and Spider Woman/Aurora in
Kiss of the Spider Woman. She recently
celebrated her 80th birthday performing as Princess Puffer in The Mystery of
Edwin Drood. 3 p.m. MAC

past catches up with her, however, she
must choose between two countries.

with Duke Johnson. Tom Noonan provides the voices of all the other characters. Recommended for adults. 7:30

Wit.” Author Ellen Meister brings Dorothy Parker to vivid life, discussing her
career as a critic, poet, short story writer, essayist and screenwriter, as well as
her involvement with causes ranging
from the Sacco and Vanzetti case to the
Civil Rights Movement. Ellen Meister
is the author of five novels, including
Dorothy Parker Drank Here and Farewell,
Dorothy Parker, as well as numerous essays and short stories. She teaches creative writing at Hofstra University Continuing Education. 12:10 p.m.
