St. Ann Parish Mission Statement
We are called by a loving God
to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith.
We are a family of diverse people with various ministries:
healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,
united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community.
With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,
we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today’s Readings
Together Let Us Cause God Joy
First Reading — There is no salvation through anyone
else (Acts 4:8-12).
Psalm — The stone rejected by the builders has become
the cornerstone (Psalm 118).
Second Reading — See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God
(1 John 3:1-2).
Gospel — The good shepherd lays down his life for the
sheep (John 10:11-18).
Today is the 4th Sunday of Easter and World Day of
Prayers for Vocations. The Responsorial Psalm is, “The
stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone.” (Psalm 118:1, 8-9,21,23,26,28,29) Always strive
to be like the Good Shepherd. There is always room for
improvement in our lives.
On this coming Thursday, we will have Confirmation
with Bishop Perry at 7:00 p.m. We have been truly
blessed with a great class of 8th graders in our Parish.
These young men and women are fine examples of our
youth today, and we can say great job, parents, catechists
and teachers. The years seem to go faster and faster, and
children today have such a large look at the world
through computers, smart phones, iPads, etc. So to be
alert to the world and all its trappings is a hard job to
monitor. When we were young, life moved at a slower
pace, and there was more family time. Try and take a
day or two a week to sit down together and just catch-up.
The blessings will be everlasting. Be sure and remember
our Confirmandi and their families in your prayers this
week. May they always be close to God, family, friends
and country.

THE YEAR WAS 1914

The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for the car was sold only in the drugstore.
Only 14% of houses had a bathtub.
Only 8% of homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of
paved roads.
The average US worker’s wages were 22 cents.
More than 95% of births took place at home.
Ninety percent of doctors had no college education.
Two out of every ten adults couldn't read or write,
and only 6% went to high school.
The American flag had 45 stars, and the tallest building was the Eiffel Tower.
There were about 230 reported killings in the country.
Now I can e-mail this info to someone else without
typing it, and in a matter of seconds it will be sent all
over the world. Try to imagine what it may be like
in another 100 years.

LECTOR MEETING
Monday, May 4, 7:00 p.m.
In the School Library
Please bring your current Lectionary
workbook and prayers to the meeting.
MINISTRY LEADER MEETING
Monday, May 18, 7:00 p.m.
In the School Library
See how quickly we can now spread the Word of God?
How quickly we can forward our prayers for our sick,
dying and loved ones? How quickly we can be remembered? How quickly we can learn and share new ideas?
It really is a miracle if used for our good and the good of
others. Pray each and every day.
It is important that all ministry leaders attend
or send a representative of your ministry.
We will be discussing parish ministry information, updates to our Ministry Policies and
Procedures, and the upcoming Ministry Fair.
Serving Him Together, Barb A.

Look for the Ticket Board in the Narthex After
Weekend Masses Until the Drawing on May 10.
Full Tickets Are Also Available.
Our goal is to sell 1,000 tickets by Mother’s Day, 2015. Right now we are at about 730, and we are so grateful
for your efforts to date. But if everyone rallies together to buy or sell another ticket, or even a share in a ticket,
we can make it to 1,000! To make it easier, we will begin selling 1/4 shares for $25 and 1/10 shares for
$10 in multiple tickets so you can spread your chances around. With your name on more than one ticket,
you greatly increase your chances of winning. Don’t forget, last year’s big Pot of Gold top prize was shared by
several of the morning mass attendees who went in on a ticket together. If you still have unsold
tickets, you can do this on your own―ask a few friends to buy in (be sure to keep track of your
participants!). Payments and sold stubs can be dropped in the collection basket at weekly Masses,
or mailed or dropped off to the Parish Office, 3010 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL 60438. If you would
like to request more tickets to sell/buy, please call the Parish Office at 895-6700. Thank you to
everyone who has sold and/or is working on selling their tickets!

Good Neighbor Day Parade
Saturday, May 2, 2:00 p.m. Step-Off
Oh what fun it is to ride on the St. Ann Parish Float at the Good
Neighbor Day Parade! This year’s theme: Lansing Alive With Music. Our float promises to be second to none!
We need volunteers! We are in need of the help of all parishioners,
ministries, and school families, whether donating candy, decorating
the float, riding along in the parade, or marching with us passing out
candy and fliers. You can wear any St. Ann gear: walk as a team in
uniform, wear gym clothes, Catholic Schools Week T-Shirts, any
Green & Gold will do. Everyone in the parade will receive a hot
dog when we reach Lan-Oak Park.
Confirmation: April 30
Supper Club at Gayety’s: April 30
Good Neighbor Day Parade: May 2
Can Collection: May 3
First Communion: May 9
Techie Trot II 5k: June 6
Look for “St. Ann Catholic Parish” and
“St. Ann Catholic School,
Lansing” on facebook, and
“like” us to receive updates
and breaking news about the
parish and the school.
We will also need assistance decorating the float. We plan to decorate in the St. Ann parking lot on May 2 at 10:00 a.m.
Anyone interested in donating bags of individually wrapped
candy for distribution at the parade may leave their contributions at school, the parish office, or in the decorated box in the
Narthex. If you send it through school, please mark it “GOOD
NEIGHBOR PARADE.” You can even drop off your candy
while we decorate the float that morning in the parking lot.
The St. Ann float will be lined up on Wentworth Ave. Our line-up
position is NUMBER 3―right up at the front! All walkers should
be there between 1:30 and 1:45 on parade day. We would love to
have all parishioners walking/riding with us. If you are unable to
accompany your child, you will have to meet us when we arrive at
178th St. across from the Eisenhower Center. If you have any questions, please call Cindy Hope at 474-2914 or the parish office at 895
