When I know that a verb has happened in the past, I need to
add an ‐ed to the end of the word. Notice the words at the
beginning give you a clue that the sentence has already happened.

Let's write a realistic fiction story together. Remember that realistic
fiction stories are make believe stories that COULD happen in real
life.
In 2005, Mia and Kayden were shopping at the mall. They were looking
for American Girl dolls. First they checked in the little booths at the
mall to see if they were selling any of the dolls. The people at the
booths said they only sold fake hair.
A couple seconds later, they went to the Lego store. But they were
only able to sell them Lego dolls. Kayden and Mia did not want Lego
Dolls, they wanted American Girl dolls.
Later on, they were walking in the mall and they found a store that
sold American Girl dolls. They were so excited! Kayden found a doll
with dark brown hair. Mia found a doll with blonde hair. It was the
best day ever!

Strategies to Help Sound Words Out While You Are Writing:
• Clap the syllables and then write sounds you hear in each syllable.
• Say the words slowly and listen for the sounds you hear (beginning,
middle, final).
• Say the words slowly and listen for any parts that you know.
• Use words you know (fun and silly to help with funny).
• Use names you know (William for will).
• Use a rhyming word.
• Use word families to spell related words.
• Think about different spelling patterns that can spell the sound you
hear (ou vs. ow).
• Try it on a practice page and see if it looks right.
• Use a resource in the classroom (word wall, charts, book, dictionary).

Good Morning Superstars,
