16th Annual Holiday Bazaar
During the Holidays, New Hope Charities is ever busy with our gift gathering and
annual Holiday Bazaar, though the preparation and planning for these events start long before
the holiday season. Thanks to the hard work year-round of Cathie Fanjul, the staff and our
many volunteers, we are able to put together a wonderful holiday event and raise funds for our
family center and the programs and services New Hope Charities provides to those in need.
These are especially challenging times and many people in our area struggle to provide their
families with basic needs. Yes, poverty exists even in Palm Beach County. New Hope Charities
reaches out to struggling families in the Glades to provide food assistance, health and education
services, quality after school and day care services. Through the generous contributions of our
family of supporters, New Hope Charities is able to continue to provide these services.
During the holidays, most of us have extra compassion for those in need. May the spirit
of giving and helping others be with you not only during the holidays, but throughout the year.
Special thanks to our donors and contributors this year. Without the support from
community partners and friends, it is nearly impossible to run a non-profit organization. Happy
Holidays! We look forward to a bright year ahead. May 2010 be a productive, successful and
blessed year for all!
Thank you

To Us a Child Is Born
6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his
shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace.
PRAYER OF SALVATION
At this time, if you desire to be set free in your soul, simply bow your head, confess your need for salvation,
ask God to forgive your sins and then open your heart to receive His Son, the Messiah, and He will send His
spirit as a seal, and you will be able to begin a new life with Him in “the Promised Land”, here on Earth while
being sanctified by His word with the hope for a future in Heaven.

NEW HOPE CHARITIES, INC.
ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY
New Hope Charities was founded as a grass-roots food distribution program in 1988. Our Palm Beach Chapter founder,
Mrs. Lian Fanjul de Azqueta, concerned about the living conditions of families in western Palm Beach County
communities, spearheaded the program by collecting food for the needy in her mother’s garage. Now, more than 20 years
later, the organization has grown into a multi-service family - and community - strengthening charity.
Although we have grown by leaps and bounds over the years, our Food Distribution Program is still one of our staple
services. We now provide supplemental food bags to 193 families each month in our efforts to combat food insecurity and
hunger in one of the poorest areas of our county. Additionally, we offer an educational component to our Food
Distribution Program by coupling it with nutrition classes for the children in our “Out of School Programs”. Our goal is
to teach them to make wise and healthy food choices. We also believe that volunteerism promotes a feeling of self-worth
and well-being in our clients, so toward this end we recruit recipients of our food program to assist in the preparation and
distribution of food bags at our center. In this way, families that benefit from the program also feel that they are part of the
solution, ultimately fostering leadership skills, personal responsibility and civic duty among our clients.
In addition to our Food Distribution Program we currently provide after-school care and summer camp for up to 65
children between the ages 6 and 14. These “Out of School Programs” provide children with a safe and nurturing
environment in which to learn and grow. The after-school program focuses on economic literacy, reading mastery, life
skills courses, homework assistance, computer competency and recreational and artistic activities for our youth. During
the nine-week summer camp program, children from this mostly rural community are exposed to recreational and cultural
experiences outside of their own community that would not otherwise be available to them, but that can enhance their
lives and understanding of the world in meaningful and unique ways. Additionally, we offer daycare services for 52
preschoolers through our collaboration with The Redlands Christian Migrants’ Association. Our organization also offers
an ESOL program for over 20 adult students learning the English language so that they can better integrate into society.
In 2006 the education center, was opened providing brand new classrooms for ESOL classes, homework assistance,
literacy programs and other education courses; as well as a computer lab and a fully functioning lending library, operated
in collaboration with the Palm Beach County Library System. New Hope’s services are offered to the underprivileged
children and families of the Glades area.
New Hope Charities Programs / Activities
After School Program: New Hope provides after school activities for up to 75 local area youth ranging in age from 6-14 years of age.
During the regular school year, the program is open to students for three and a half hours. All transportation to and from the family center
is provided free of charge to children enrolled in the program. Acceptance to the program is in a first come first served basis.
Life Skills: Health and nutrition classes are provided once per week. Students are provided information on nutrition, proper hygiene and
dental care.
Tutoring & Homework Assistance: Students are provided homework assistance for 45 minutes. Students requiring further assistance are
provided individual tutoring.
Lending Library and Bookmobile: The Palm Beach County Library supports our “in-house” library which offers our students a variety of
books. Also, the Bookmobile visits every two weeks.
Computer Learning Center: Students attending the after-school program at New Hope Charities have an opportunity to rotate through our
computer learning center on a daily basis. Students learn the ABC’s of using a computer in our “hands-on” computer lab.
Arts & Crafts: Arts & crafts activities are offered three times a week and students can choose from a variety of projects.
Economics Program: This program is designed to introduce our children to the concepts of money management and banking. Students
earn tokens for positive behaviors such as reading books or helping with clean up. Students are assigned “bank” accounts into which they
deposit or withdraw tokens earned. The tokens are used to purchase items such as toys, portable radios and many other items from a
merchandise cabinet located in the youth center.
Recreation: Students participate in daily in-door and out-door recreational activities such as soccer, volleyball, flag football, kickball,
Ping-Pong, pool and basketball.
Literacy Program: All students attend literacy classes once a week. Projects include word association games, essay writing, word puzzles,
and word recognition exercises.
Reading Master Program: The goal of this program is to increase the number of books read by our students. As an incentive to read,
tokens are awarded based on the number of pages read.
Summer Camp: New Hope Charities offers a full time summer camp five days a week for sixty-five local area youth. Activities include
weekly field trips, recreational activities, arts & crafts and more.
Adult Services:
ESOL: New Hope offers adult English classes four days per week. The goal of this program is to increase conversational and written
English skills among non-English speaking adults. Class instruction often focuses on practical use of English in one’s everyday life. Students’ practice reading labels, product instructions and short stories.
Food Program: This program provides relief to 193 families who meet the federal poverty guidelines. Every month food bags weighing as
much as fifty pounds are assembled and distributed throughout the Pahokee and Belle Glade communities.
Volunteer Program: New Hope Charities depends heavily upon local area volunteers who assist staff on a monthly basis with the
preparation of the food bags. In addition, volunteers often assist during special events such as our toy give away and our annual Disney trip.
