WRESTLING
Kats advance three wrestlers to the IHSAA State
Championships!!!
The Wildkat Wrestlers had a great day at the Fort Wayne Semi-State on Sautrday. We
qualified three guys for the state finals and finished third as a team in the 80-team
tournament.
Chad Gaddis (152) finished third, Keair Ross (170) finished fourth and Fletcher Miller
(220) was champion. All three of those guys really wrestled well and punched their
ticket to the state finals this weekend at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
We are so proud for three wrestlers to be representing our program on the state’s biggest
wrestling stage. We are excited but not satisfied as all three of them have the goal of
getting on the podium with a medal around their neck next Saturday night. In order to do
that you must win your first match on Friday night. That sends you to the medal rounds
on Saturday.
We would love to see lots of support this weekend for these three wrestlers who have
worked so hard to achieve this accomplishment.
See you at The Bank!!!!
Coach Wells
The Lady Kats took a tough loss in the
Sectional semi-finals to Marion Friday
night.
The Giants jumped out to a quick start,
but the Lady Kats fought back to tie the
game early in the second quarter. Marion
extended the lead again, but Kokomo
fought back and tied the game at 44 with
the ball.
After missing a shot around the basket
Marion moved the ball quickly down the
floor and hit a three. That was a big
swing late in the game and one that the
Lady Kats did not recover from.
Marion shot 50% ( 9-of-18) from three as
the Lady Kats shot 15%. Many other
stats were in Kokomo’s favor, but the 18point differential from behind the arc was
too much to overcome.
The Lady Kats were led in scoring by
Alanis Jones 15 points and Allie Lowe
pulled down 11 rebounds.
There will be a season wrap up article
shortly detailing this year, but we will
greatly miss this strong senior class that
dealt with a lot of adversity this season.
Thanks for your support of these young
ladies.
Coach Snyder
The Kats went on the road Saturday afternoon and came away with a hard
fought win versus sectional rival McCutcheon, 61-48.
Both teams played very hard, and it was an extremely physical and
competitive game. We found ourselves down by eight points with four
minutes left in the third quarter. After calling a timeout, our guys
responded by outscoring McCutcheon by eight points to draw even, 37-37,
at the end of the third quarter. Erik Bowen scored on an offensive rebound
on the first possession of the fourth quarter and from that point on we
played solid defense and offense to expand the lead to double digits.
Bowen led the way as he recorded another double-double with 13 points
and 16 rebounds. He also led our team in hustle points with 23. Tayler
Persons scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Demarius Warren
netted 17 points and ripped down eight rebounds. Mykal Cox led us in
assists and steals. Jeron Gray, Jordan Matthews, Brad Dockemeyer, and
Brandon Wilson all made key contributions throughout the game.
Our JV team beat McCutcheon as well, 41-34. Marcelle Kenner and Devin
Vetter led the way with 10 points each and a total of eight rebounds
together. Jordan Rawlins and Brevin Beard both played excellent games as
they each scored eight points and played solid defense.
We have a very challenging week ahead as we face Tipton on Tuesday
night. On Tuesday night we will honor our outstanding seniors and their
parents. Then we travel to Richmond on Friday night to face one of the top
teams in the state. This week will be another great opportunity to prepare
for our Sectional.
Go Kats!

The Katfish won the IHSAA Noblesville Sectional. Kokomo totaled 291 points, while the
runner-up Millers had 225.
Depth was key for the Katfish. Kokomo had just one individual champion, plus two relays
were victorious.
Steven VandeLune won the 200-freestyle event for the Wildkats and also finished second
in the 500-free. Chad Damitz had a pair of second place finishes, one in the 100-free and
the other in the 100-back.
Keenan Driver was third in the 200-free and fourth in the 100-free, while Clint Maclin was
third in the 100-free. Jacob Little was second in the 50-free and fourth in the 100 back.
Erik Richardson picked up a fifth in the 200 IM and also was sixth in the 100-fly. Aaron
Glatt finished fourth in the 50-free, and Blake Prather was third for Coach Mark
Schelbert’s Kats in the 100-breaststroke.
The winning 200-medley relay consisted of Damitz, Prather, Richardson, and Maclin,
while the 200-free had Glatt, Little, Driver, and Maclin. The 400-free relay, which
finished second, swam Little, Driver, Damitz, and Maclin.
