This year’s assortment of Editors’ Picks represents a spectacular range of exemplary consumer
products.
What do muffin glazes, bath and toilet cleaner, kitchen brushes, fresh-cut
butternut squash, spray vitamins, and Parmesan-encrusted tilapia have in
common? All are products that made the cut as 2010 Editors’ Picks.
As can be inferred from the above list, the selected items can be found across
the supermarket spectrum, with over 50 standout entries in center store,
fresh food, nonfoods and HBC earning accolades from Progressive Grocer
staffers and shoppers alike. In evaluating submissions, we looked at such
crucial factors as innovation, taste/functionality and value, all of which the
items singled out in the following pages deliver in spades.

Product Spotlight
Better4U
Sprouted Grain
Ultra Thin Pizza
Among the trends noted during the judging process: There are a greater number of gluten-free products
than ever, with more items offering tastes on a par with their gluten-containing counterparts;
natural/organic is still big, with entries spanning the skin care, cereal, candy, snack, frozen, center
store, meat and produce sections; unusual flavor combinations add interest to food and beverage lines;
and convenience may still be king, but manufacturers are increasingly balancing portability and ease of
preparation with more nutritious ingredients and healthier cooking methods (e.g., baked vs. fried).

Progressive Grocer
Editors’ Pick Award,
Sprouted Grain Ultra Thin
Crust Pizzas from
While the products chosen as our Editors’ Picks this time around were particularly impressive, all of the
submissions reflected the high quality standards and inventive thinking of their respective companies,
and were eminently worthy of consideration. We look forward to future years’ entries, as the everevolving grocery industry makes space on store shelves for as-yet-unthought-of concepts that will soon
morph into mainstays.
